It's not just the reffing that gets me worked up, per se. It's the whole treatment of the situation. The league clearly isn't taking it seriously at all. Not a word -at the very least- condemning Clowe's action regardless of disciplinary matter. BUT They say that they're SO concerned with every facet of the integrity of the game, but they let s*** like that slide? I mean I know he didn't throw a dirty hit or injure anyone, but given the circumstances they should have at least made him issue an apology. I mean they made Avery issue an apology -and suspended him- for off-ice comments about someones celebrity girlfriend. I think playing the puck from the bench in a game that's going to determine your playoff position and already getting away with it effects the integrity of the game a lot more than Avery being a smartass in an interview.

I'm not even calling for any disciplinary action on Clowe here, just for the league to do SOMETHING to acknowledge that it happened and it won't happen again.

The NHL is practically supporting it is what I mean. The headline on NHL.com is "Clowe stops odd-man rush from bench", which just links to a video of the whole thing, which they cutely titled "Stoll-en Goods" with the caption "Ryane Clowe pokes the puck away from Jarret Stoll while on the bench.". They give the whole matter 0 other context. They're practically insinuating that it was a LEGAL play. I know there's a specific rule against it in the rule book, but COME ON. I KNOW they don't support it, but the 'joking manner'/ ignoring/hands tied approach is not the right way to handle it, especially not at this point in the season.

As someone already stated, this close to the playoffs it makes me wonder what kind of new douchebaggery that they're going to allow...It's s*** like they way they're treating it that makes people reach for the tin foil and start crafting head gear is all I'm saying.

I can't believe so many people have their panties in a bunch, it was a stupid play, he got away with it, that makes it funny. Qui being so damn cranky.

But look at it objectively, there wasn't even a guarantee of anything on the play, it was illegal, he got away with it, plays like that happen ALL THE TIME, the only difference was this one was blatant and stupid. It is humorous, you are overreacting big time.

I agree with evilzyme. And to be perfectly honest crap like this brings up sour memories of BS reffing that effects playoff games. Remember the non-call when Franzen took a high stick to the face from Setoguchi? What about the "Franzen's lightsaber stick slicing off Thornton's legs" while the Sharks were getting away with diving that whole series? Thornton got a penalty for roughing before he dove, but at the time the dive was so extreme it just highlighted everyone's frustrations on our side with non-calls on the Sharks for blatant diving not only last year but the year before.


There's never a guarantee of anything in the future when you're in the present, a few years ago we were seconds from winning the cup and the pens got a goal that pushed us into what? triple over time? Point is, what Clowe did was BS, should have been called, and what that WOULD have guaranteed was a 5 on 3 situation for the Kings that could have been a game and seed changer. Overreacting? Hardly.

What if we get into the first round and something like this happens to us and decides a game...or a series? I really don't see how it's funny in the context real NHL hockey, either? In a comedic movie, sure.

I'll edit here to say obviously things will get missed. Humans make mistakes and don't see everything, but at the same time there needs to be a system in place to deal with outrageous things like these. Everything is so in the moment in hockey games, but these outrageous examples and other things like them should not go completely unpunished.

Crosby is a damn good player ,no doubt about it. The thing that bothers me the most about him is the media's urge to constatnly shove him down my throat.... There are other great players in this league.

Was just about to say this, exactly. He may or may not be the best player in the league, but he's still overrated even if he is. I think that for people on this board it has a lot less to do with 'still being 2008' and a lot more to do with being flat out sick of the the media around him. He's gotten as much 'positive' press about 'what a great player he is' over the what is it, year or so, he's been off as he has in his active career. Their bias is obvious and THAT'S what leaves a lot of people sour on him, not his play necessarily.

Also, I haven't been keeping tabs on his on-ice 'personality', but from what I remember that isn't/wasn't helping his case, either. I know that doesn't have anything to do with how well he plays, but to call someone a blanket "BEST player" in the league, they, in my opinion, should be broadly known as being pretty classy to fit the whole package of such a description. That's purely me, though. And the way he at least used to be doesn't fit that bill for me. Like I said though, I only speak for myself on that one.

From last year...

If you go to Motorcity casino and get a players card which are free,  or if you stay in the hotel  you can get a shuttle from motorcity to the joe for free. Nemo's or capt nemo's (I forget the name) is a bar off of michigan ave that will transport you there for a few dollars also.

The Greektown Player's Card is free, too. I don't gamble much but I use it for parking every time I go downtown. Parking is free but sometimes they charge if some other event is going on or during the playoffs without it. You just have to run into the casino and validate your parking, sometimes, though. No questions asked, just a machine. There will be big signs outside the entrances if they are charging.

Also, just a suggestion/thought for the board...I'm not complaining at all, I always try to contribute to these, but we seem to get them pretty consistently. I was just thinking that all of us could contribute and break down a big list of ideas/suggestions/hotels/directions for coming to games downtown and the surrounding areas (troy/airport/royal oak/hamtramck/ferndale, etc) and pin it somewhere, so everyone can always have an idea on hand. I was just thinking that since someone else said they had the same question, and we all try to be super accommodating, but not all of the great suggestions make it into every thread, one big list could be fun and helpful. I'd be happy to take the suggestions and make and detail that list if anyone else thinks it's a good idea.

Female fan, die hard. My friends and I even have a tradition that all playoff games MUST be watched by certain people in my basement. One of those moved to Florida this year (feel free to blame him for the loss, we do). Almost all of my guy friends, funny enough, hate sports and make fun of my for my hockey obsession.  I was at a bar during the playoffs (after we were eliminated) and there was a fight on tv and the bartender said something about fighting being banned in the playoffs. I corrected him citing that it's only banned for instigation during the last 5 minutes of a game and everyone around me was like 'holy s***' hahaha

I mean it's common knowledge to all of us, but to non-sports fans...I thought it was funny anyway.

Also when I was living at home my mom got pissed and yelled 'When did your room turn into JLA?! Stop screaming at the TV they can't hear you!!'

Yeah, its Google Sketchup, and its the first building I ever made on it, so it isn't perfect.  But I think its not bad for my first try.

Yours is a MUCH better choice than the proposed mock up. As someone else said, those rows of seating would have to be VERY high up to accommodate 20,000. While The Joe is old and outdated, the biggest perk of the place, aside from history, is that there isn't a bad seat in it for any event. Also I think that the steps/seating rows are way too steep...the expansion of seat space and leg room furthers the higher rows argument.
The Joe was planned and constructed masterfully. Honestly, I wouldn't be opposed to keeping The Joe and giving it an updated face lift. A new Olympia would be my strong second choice even though I'm too young to have any memory of the the Olympia.

Howard. But I'm not too upset at him. Unless he plays in Game 4 and really sucks it up. Win game 4 Jimmy.

Eh, Howie and Ozzy are very similar. They both make spectacular highlight-reel saves and hold us up when they need to, but let in some of the softies. Aside from Ozzy's rust, I think we would be in the same boat either way, to be honest.

I blame taking a break and trying to sit on a 2 goal lead on tonight's loss. If anything is consistent, it's this and has been for years. A 2 goal lead isn't a sure-fire win and we've been acting like it has been for a long time.
As for the last 2, I'll be in the corner crafting my tin-foil head gear and continue to be pissed at the refs for the 10 PKs we had in the last game alone.

This is funny....but it would be funny and true if the fish had stripes and a whistle! lol.

A shoddy job, but hey, here ya go.
