    Eklund Rumor: Mantha for Ristolainen

Hard pass. Mantha-Larkin-Bert is money, no reason to destroy the best line the team has for a that trade. AA+ would be fine, but, no one from the top line, and not Hronek, Mo, or Zadina.

    6/22 GDT - 2018 Entry Draft

Detroit needs to think about trading whatever it takes to get a pick soon and try to get Dobson or Bouchard.
  4. A guy who can't even put up a .900 sv% in the NCAA? He's trash. 70th best in the NCAA. And they have a worse goaltender in the AHL to boot. Now they get to depend on Howard, the glass man, both mentally and physically, and two guys who likely will be career back ups if we are lucky? Good luck with that.

    Cholowski playing really well

Him and Ras are both cases of players we will know nothing about until they make the AHL/NHL. Men, especially those with man sized bodies at 18-19 tend to dominate the CHL +1/+2 draft because they are men playing against kids. From my own experience the best predictor is how they transition to the AHL. So with both Cholo and Ras all I ever say is that they aren't showing negative signs in their development.

    12/2 GDT - Red Wings @ Canadiens - 7:00 PM EST

Also, this team isn't a new coach away from making the playoffs. This team is spectacularly untalented outside of Larkin and Mantha. Literally every other player on the team is replacement level talent. Even Babcock realized that this team wasn't going anywhere, why do you think he got out of Dodge so quickly? Because he knew that this team had at least half a decade of terrible hockey ahead of it and he didn't want to take the career hit because of it. So call for Blashill's head all you want, but no one is going to do much better in his position. And realistically ask yourselves do you want them to? Does somehow resuscitating this corpse for one more seasons of 1st round fodder hockey fix any of the problems? The answer is this is healthy for the team, they need to suck, because they need to rebuild the only way its possible to rebuild.

Mrazek has also been on the wrong side of back to back games and has had an extremely tight leash. He also hasn't been getting any starts so there is sampling error and the inability for him to have the chance to become consistent.

Mike Commodore's experience with the Wings

500 games, millions of dollars and a cup ring? Yeah, he's a loser. His feud is petty, but all things considered he had a pretty good career for a bottom D-man. AA will be calling cutting a s*** 'taking a Holland' I bet.

Athanasiou Signed 1 year $1.4 mil

Per Mlive: Its pretty bad when he is asking for so much money even KHL teams have to turn him down.

Being able to play at least decent defense is what separates someone on the third line from the top 6. If you're playing against the other team's best talent, you don't get to pass on defending.

Yes, by far. AA would have to have a 40 goal season this year to do what Nyquist did at his age. And the reason why Nyquist can't score is because the league adjusted to him. They forced him to the perimeter and he responded by becoming pass first. AA hasn't shown either 1 that he can score at that rate or 2 that he can adjust to the league adjusting to him. Until he does both, Nyquist being a 50 point player is more than AA has done. And, given his skill set, likely will be better than AA in the long term as well.

Yes, Nyquist right now is far better. In 10 years I be surprised if AA surpassed Nyquist's points total. Teams can adjust to speed (literally look at Larkin, who is a better player than AA), AA doesn't have the tools to adjust. Nyquist, and I am not his biggest fan, at least had the tools to adjust when teams started planning for him and is still good for 50 points a year.

And Nyquist was a guy who scored on pace for 40 goals, that's who he was. Until other teams planned for him. Until he breaks 20 goals in a season he's not a 20 goal scorer. Until he can show he can score at the same pace with more minutes, there's no way to know what will happen in the future.

Its true for for a lot of European countries. Finland. Czech Republic, etc. So for European players it makes sense to play in Russia over the US or Canada if you are worried about paying loads of taxes. Even American players will get tax relief because they will not pay combined US/Russian taxes over their effective US tax rate (IE if they pay 15% in Russia and their tax rate in the US is 25% they will have to pay the US Government the difference, 10%).

I will now start being super blunt about the KHL. Going there isn't tax free and in fact he could be double taxed because Russia may not have a double taxation law like the US has. Here are relevant quotes on the topic of a Canadian citizen working overseas (Russia): This is straight from the Canadian government. Here's from Canadian tax experts: So unless AA becomes a permanent resident of Russia, he has to pay taxes. The whole AA won't pay taxes is a trope that needs to die. He has to pay taxes. And he actually will likely pay less by playing in Michigan (both total amount and effective rate) than he would in Kazan because the US government has provisions that prevent you from being effectively double taxed.
