#2148844 So I got kidnapped last weekend.

Posted by Autika on 14 April 2011 - 02:33 AM

This past Saturday I worked an 8 hour shift painting a factory. I got off around 5 pm and my girlfriend picked me up so we could get something to eat. We end up getting done around 7 pm, and she starts driving back to my place. I was quite tired and just wanted to go to bed. Just before we get to my subdivision she veers wildly right.
"Ummmmmm...... home is that way."
"I know."
"ok... where are we going?"
"you'll see."
She continues driving down route 74 towards Moline IL.
"Why are we going to Moline? there's nothing in Moline. Moline sucks."
"You'll see."
by this point we've been driving for about 20 minutes and I'm becoming quite paranoid from my lack of knowledge on my current situation.
"Are we going to be gone over night? I didn't bring my toothbrush, my breath wreaks! Who's going to watch the dog?"
"The dog is taken care of. We can stop and get you a toothbrush."
After another 10 minutes of driving we turn onto 88. I begin to glean the happenings.
"Are we going to Chicago?"
"Maybe."
I begin salivating.
"are we going to the United Center?"
"Maybe."
"Is this my birthday present?"
"Mhm."
"did you bring my jersey?"
"yep."
I quite abruptly find myself wide awake. I've never been to an NHL hockey game, and every time I've thought about buying tickets to see the Wings in Chicago I have to back out because of work or some other hoop la. Now I'm just a little kid who is worried about his lack of preparation for the slight chance of this actually happening. I look down at my feet which are housed in my old college flip flops.
"... did you bring my sneakers?"
"... we can get you some sneakers."
We spend the night in the burbs and I buy a cheap pair of kicks from Target 10 minutes before they close. We take an 8AM Metra the next morning and walk the 2 miles to the United Center. My first Red Wings game is sublime. Surrounded by Hawks fans more intent on chanting about how the Wings suck than cheering for their team (which needed it). I cheer wildly each time The Wings score, standing alone in my section of the nosebleeds. The only downside of the entire experience was that there wasn't anyone else to chant, "Count our cups" with me.

And that is the story of my first NHL experience. anyone else got a story to share about theirs?

Smallest Current NHL markets:
Metro Buffalo Population: 1,124,309 (2008)
Metro Raliegh-Durham Population: 1,742,816 (2009) / 1,130,490 (2010 census)
Metro Edmonton Population: 1,034,945 (2006)

-----

Metro Winnipeg Population: 694,668 (2006)
Metro Hamilton Population: 692,911 (2006)
Metro Quebec City Population: 715,515 (2006)

-----
Metro Phoenix Population: 4,192,887 (Census 2010)
Metro Atlanta Population: 5,475,213 (2009)

But they're in Canada, so every person counts for ten Americans.

#2141532 If there was one F/D/G you could add to the team, who would it be?

Great choice. Not so sure about Emery though.

Does Nashville score 11 goals, or can we hold the opposition to less than double-digits? I'm hoping for the latter, not the former.

#2129384 Next year could be big for the NHL

They sorta have this thing called a contract.

Isn't the TV contract set to expire after this season? Or did they re-up with Versus/NBC/Comcast/etc? I would love to see the NHL return to ESPN, which would likely mean a return of NHL 2Night program as well.

Wouldn't mind hearing this again (see attached).

#2126909 Teemu Pulkkinen

If that team only had an enforcer on it, that never would have happened.

Actually Jokerit is one of the few teams that have an enforcer type every year. Sami Helenius played for them and now they have Semir Ben-Amor.

Anyways, I heard the injury was just a charley horse and he should be okay in a few days.

#2123099 Seabrook extended for 5 years at $5.8 million per year

It's okay. They'll just loan him to a Swiss team if this contract becomes a problem next season.

Nice goal. I've said it before, but I can't wait until he's rockin' the Winged Wheel.

It's pretty cool that Patty Eaves' brother Ben is Pulkkinen's teammate.

I wonder if those two ever talk about him and his chances for the NHL.

I'm sure they have, even though Teemu is the kind of person who doesn't want to get ahead of himself and just keeps focusing on the now instead of the future. I'm sure his injury-plagued last season was a good reminder to him.

He should win the rookie of the year award in FEL by a landslide and that alone would be quite an achievement for him, not to mention he is likely a top-10 scorer in the league this season.
