#2315453 Jonathan Ericsson. Knock, knock...

Posted by Shaman on 05 July 2012 - 01:24 AM

Ericsson was our 2nd best D man in the playoffs this year. E has made great strides. He will never be a point producing defenseman, but when it comes to PK or shutting down the opposition he has improved a ton.

Lidstrom, Stuart, and White were all in my opinion better than Ericsson in the playoffs.

#2315356 Holland comments on Suter & Parise going to Wild

I wonder if free agents would be more willing to come here if Yzerman was GM?

At least Yzerman has balls. Holland has the balls of a Ken doll.

What I have to say to Holland: I hope Yzerman likes your office, I have a feeling he will be occupying it soon.

#2314501 Ryan Suter agrees to 13-year, $98-mil deal with Wild

Posted by Shaman on 04 July 2012 - 11:38 AM

I will agree with you that they should have done more before now, but at the same time kindle was suppose to be the guy. Unfortunately he probably is never gonna be better than a 5 or 6 dman. But to fire holland that is outrageous even if the last few years were not his best work. Let's sit back and see his next moves. If he signs carle and says we like our team then maybe we need to start considering that it is time to bring THE captain back.

Kindl being a bust has been known since his time in GR. Holland has since 2009 failed to make this team better. Last season everyone justified it with 'well next season Suter' now Detroit has 2 options overpay or not contend.

#2314185 My 2013 Roster...

Posted by Shaman on 04 July 2012 - 07:29 AM

Problems with your roster:

#1 Yandle will not come cheap, think Smith+++

#2 Semin will not sign for under 6 million and he will want more years

#3 Suter is looking like a 50/50 shot at best right now

#2311611 i hope we dont panic if suter and parise signs elsewhere

Posted by Shaman on 01 July 2012 - 07:52 AM

If we end up with a Penner and a Carle I will flip my s***.

We will have the first overall next season to keep us warm if that's Holland's plan.

Sorry if you don't see it, but the team lost one top 3 ever D-man and an above average second pairing D-man, and will lose a 25 goal scorer. If Holland doesn't address these holes the team may not even be a playoff team next year. Lets face it, with Lidstrom, Hudler and Stuart the Wings got bounced in the first round in 5 games, so if they don't upgrade the line up there is no reason to think they will do anything better next season. Will people be pissed, damn straight people will be, the Wings are 8 million under the cap floor and almost 25 under the limit, if this isn't a time to take some chances on a few UFAs there never will be one.

#2310438 How much would you give up?

Posted by Shaman on 27 June 2012 - 02:07 PM

If Eklund says a player is on the market, you can bet your bottom dollar that player is not on the market. If this is true though, its a salary dump, therefore the value of the player being dumped is lower than normal market value... I would say probably Franzen+mid tier prospect+high pick 2013.

#2309301 So What's Up With Abby & Quincey?

Posted by Shaman on 23 June 2012 - 04:59 PM

Abby is one of the few physical forwards the Wings have. The team without him would be incredibly soft.

I believe Khan said the Wings would talk to both at the draft. Therefore, I think it's too early to speculate on either player.

Except he loves to take dumb penalties and his defensive game is still pretty rough.

Just started the show 2 days ago, now I am in the middle of season 2, its 4 am after a very long day and I am severely conflicted between sleep and another episode.

#2306636 2012 General Offseason Signing Thread

Posted by Shaman on 11 June 2012 - 01:28 PM

I hope Kenny can sign both Parise and Suter because if he doesn't then this place is going to go absolutely apes***. We will all be screaming for Kenny to sign anyone! Just sign anyone dammit!

There is a lot of fear on this board that Holland will do little to nothing on the 1st, on the second he will say to Khan or St James 'I explored the options, there was nothing to my liking/too expensive, I will wait until later in the month to sign bargain bin players'. This will be followed by signing a couple meh players, and Holland saying 'I think this team is competitive and I like our odds, and I have cap space to use at the deadline to fix any holes'. The final act of this play would be 'well I explored all the options and the NHL is just so competitive that all the players I wanted were too expensive' and quickly followed by 'When X player gets off the DL that will be our deadline'.

#2306480 Brendan Smith

Posted by Shaman on 11 June 2012 - 02:31 AM

His goal for the summer is to add muscle without losing speed

I would have added the article where Smith talks about his summer goals but I didn't want to go over the media limit

I think if hes inserted as a top 4 this season the management and coaching will dissuade him from fighting a lot... with the rash of concussions and the uncertain make up of Detroit's depth at D will make it unlikely that Smith will drop the gloves on a regular basis.

#2306443 Red Wings Prepared to Offer Hudler Contract

Posted by Shaman on 10 June 2012 - 08:56 PM

If the Wings sign Hudler I will completely have lost all faith in Ken Holland.

That has to to be the dumbest thing I've heard on this board in a long time. Why?

Holland could announce tomorrow he and Hudler have decided to sign him to a 3 year 9 million dollar contract. Meaning they have locked him up at a reasonable rate for a guy who can give you 20+ goals and 50+ points a season.

Bring the plywood back boards that make the Joe famous.

#2306070 Which current NHL players do our top prospects compare to?

Posted by Shaman on 08 June 2012 - 05:27 PM

The problem with our "prospects" is, we really don't know if they are. As of today, most are just names. Pick any of the rating sites you want, most rate our prospects with a high of Smith on down. But everyone of those sites gives a strong cya on each guy. For example, Hockeysfuture.com gives Smith a 8.0 rating which is equl to a potentail #2 D. But at the same time they also give him a grade of C, which means "may make it, but could drop 2 points". At 6 points Smith goes from a future #2 to a journeyman #6 or 7 Dman. Everyone else on our list has already made it to the NHL: maursk and nyquist or has yet to play a professional game. Could all of them develop? Yes. Could they all flame out? Yes. Most are 3+ years away from any of us being able to tell, one way or the other. The problem is, we need the help now.

Seeing as you don't know anything about how HFboards prospect rankings work ill break it down for you:

Each team has its own prospect reviewer, the reviewers for teams like Pittsburgh and St Louis have had some really liberal reviewers the last few seasons so their ranks are inflated compared to teams like Detroit who the last two years have had a guy who likes to be a lot more conservative on his projections. The people writing these projections tend not to be any more knowledgeable than your common HFboards posters, so I don't put much if any stock into the grades that they post. They do however write pretty good analysis of strengths and weaknesses.
