My point is that the Wings will have to overpay for someone of Doan's caliber.  It's just a fact of how things are in the league now.  You think Ericsson's contract won't drive up the price of our D-men when they become FAs?  In my opinion, it would help this team to have Doan for a few years, overpayment or not.

He's 35 almost 36, and if he is given a multi year contract, there is the 35+ rule, so given the good chance that he decides to retire in the next few years the Wings are saddled with his cap hit for the rest of the contract. On top of that if he isn't worth 5-5.5 million this year what about for the rest of the life of the contract? So not only is he overpaid this year, he gets more and more overpaid every subsequent year. No thanks, rather not have a 3rd line winger making 5 million and on the downside of his career.

Well, his agent has contacted 12 teams including the Wings, so I believe he is trying to drive his value up for negotiations with Phx. His offensive production has been dropping over the last 5 years, and he projects to be a 3rd line winger based upon production, age, and skill set. Do the Wings need another 3rd line winger? The answer is no. And to leftwinger, 3 years at 5.5 million is a joke, that would make him paid in the same ball park of Zetterberg, and hes no Zetterberg.

why is there talk of rebuilding????? we still got zetterberg,datsyuk,franzen,kronwall  and filppula for what 5-8 yrs of good hockey at least and i know datsyuk is 34 and time will tell but i see him like a selanne type and still being a good player at 40-42 yrs of age

what the wings problem is they keep adding old veterans all the time !, they cant get rid of everybody and then put in 5-10 new bodies in a season  they need to mix those guys in with the above mentioned players now! thats why i dont understand the bertuzzi resigning and samuelsson, were stacked now up front and theres talk of adding doan and semin

that means nyquist and brunner get sent down ,mursak and emmerton etc get dealt

samuelsson and bertuzzi shouldnt of been brought back and nyquist,brunner,tatar be given a chance , and even andersson whos 6'2 200+ pds could of been a good addition on the 4th line

In the KHL maybe, there have been a lot of rumblings that Dats wants to finish his career there. And again, unless the defensive problems of the Wings are addressed this season they are not a real contender.. if they are around 8th in February, I would rather see them sell players like Cleary and Bertuzzi to other teams for draft picks than see them try to sell their draft picks/prospects and get bounced early anyway.

andersson will be a nhl player

I see him as a career AHL player, especially if he stays in the Wing's system.

I'd take Semin for 4 years 20 million. Very fair for a player with 40 goal potential.

Ericsson was our 2nd best D man in the playoffs this year. E has made great strides. He will never be a point producing defenseman, but when it comes to PK or shutting down the opposition he has improved a ton.

Lidstrom, Stuart, and White were all in my opinion better than Ericsson in the playoffs.

I wonder if free agents would be more willing to come here if Yzerman was GM?

What I have to say to Holland: I hope Yzerman likes your office, I have a feeling he will be occupying it soon.

I will agree with you that they should have done more before now, but at the same time kindle was suppose to be the guy. Unfortunately he probably is never gonna be better than a 5 or 6 dman. But to fire holland that is outrageous even if the last few years were not his best work. Let's sit back and see his next moves. If he signs carle and says we like our team then maybe we need to start considering that it is time to bring THE captain back.

Kindl being a bust has been known since his time in GR. Holland has since 2009 failed to make this team better. Last season everyone justified it with 'well next season Suter' now Detroit has 2 options overpay or not contend.

Problems with your roster:

#1 Yandle will not come cheap, think Smith+++

#2 Semin will not sign for under 6 million and he will want more years

#3 Suter is looking like a 50/50 shot at best right now

If we end up with a Penner and a Carle I will flip my s***.

We will have the first overall next season to keep us warm if that's Holland's plan.

Sorry if you don't see it, but the team lost one top 3 ever D-man and an above average second pairing D-man, and will lose a 25 goal scorer. If Holland doesn't address these holes the team may not even be a playoff team next year. Lets face it, with Lidstrom, Hudler and Stuart the Wings got bounced in the first round in 5 games, so if they don't upgrade the line up there is no reason to think they will do anything better next season. Will people be pissed, damn straight people will be, the Wings are 8 million under the cap floor and almost 25 under the limit, if this isn't a time to take some chances on a few UFAs there never will be one.

If Eklund says a player is on the market, you can bet your bottom dollar that player is not on the market. If this is true though, its a salary dump, therefore the value of the player being dumped is lower than normal market value... I would say probably Franzen+mid tier prospect+high pick 2013.
