#2400681 Ovechkin -- Laziest Play Ever

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 09 May 2013 - 05:22 PM

I hope you're kidding

You look at the video of the wings losing in OT...every skater the Wings had on the ice were standing around the crease when the puck went in

Some of them were out of position maybe, but they were at least trying to make a play.

That is nothing like what Ovechkin is doing here.  Literally coasting towards the guy about to score a goal.  He had the best seat in the house.

The YT clip shows the best angle.  I thought he came off the bench but he was on the ice the whole time, coasting from center ice.

Still, he put up a 41 goal/95 point performance this season. Hes not paid to play defense, hes there to put the biscuit in the basket.

When you're paid $9.5 million a year you're expected to be a star player.  And a star player doesn't coast towards the net like that.

That was the game winner.  In the playoffs.

Do you guys seriously see nothing wrong with his play there?

I wonder how his teammates feel about his effort ?  Yeah, Semin was clearly the problem in Washington.

#2352873 Franzen spear on Perron

Posted by Mors on 08 February 2013 - 03:36 AM

Perron dropped like a sack of bricks knowing he was going to the box for boarding, I don't even think the game misconduct was necessary, much less a suspension. I'd prefer Franzen stick up for himself as opposed to the usual...

Would Perron have hit #44 from behind?  Not a f***in chance.  He knew exactly what he was doing and who he was doing it to.  Maybe he'll think twice next time.  Good job Mule.

You can actually see Perron looking up to see if the refs are looking while he lays on the ice acting.  It ain't like he followed Franzen to the boards and finished a check, he saw Franzen already against the boards and went right at him for the cheap hit trying to stir it up. He got what he got what he deserved.  Typical cheap Blues play.

My only complaint is that Franzen didn't drop his gloves and start pounding away while Perron was laying on the ice.  But he's too soft for that.

I love it. The Wings, especially Franzine, have been punching bags too long.

I wouldn't mind a one-game suspension. It was childish and dangerous and its hard for me to be condescending to fans of other teams if Wings are going to do this sort of thing :/

Seriously?

It's a penalty, which was called.  That's all I think of it.  You guys are overreacting.

Sure we don't have the 1st overall type players garbage franchises like Edmonton have (don't doubt that Edmonton's been absolute trash for a decade) but not many teams do.

If Ken Holland doesn't think he can make a trade or signing to keep the Wings in the thick of the hunt for the Cup he won't make the move.  The time for short-term extensions of the team's quality ended when Lidstrom retired.

It's interesting that people haven't seemed to notice that Holland's accelerated the pace of his 'overripe' prospect pipeline.  Tatar, Sheahan, Jurco and Mrazek all joined the AHL as early as possible (you're not allowed to put players in the AHL before their overage Jr season).  Pulkkinen, Jarnkrok and Backman can all make the transition to the AHL next season and are expected to.

The lockout screwed us out of being able to properly evaluate prospects vs veterans this year so Holland appears to have played it as safe as possible.  It remains to be seen whether he'll start transitioning kids into the line-up above and beyond the injury replacements but I suspect that depends on whether the Wings look like they can make a real push by the time that situation arises.

People can assume Ken Holland's retarded all they want but this is the first time he's gotten a real license to rebuild (with Lidstrom on the team you have to keep taking runs at the Cup) and it's only 3 games into a lockout shortened season.

#2340522 Half Season Predictions 2013

Posted by xtrememachine1 on 16 January 2013 - 08:34 AM

Central division:

1. Red Wings

2. Blues

3. Blackhawks

4. Predators

5. Blue Jackets

 - Wings finish 3rd in the Western conference.

 - Brunner scores close to 20 goals

 - Kronwall picks up his game and solidifies himself as the new number one d-man.

 - Howard plays more games, than Gustavsson, but the Monster has better numbers.

 - Datsyuk finishes in the top 5 in scoring.

 - Nyquist finishes the season on one of the scoring lines.

 - Franzen will be a $3.9 mil cap hit, score around 30 goals, and people will complain.

 - Crosby wins the Art Ross.

 - Ovechkin wins the Hart and Rocket Richard

 - Tuuka Rask wins the Vezina

 - Shea Weber wins the Norris.

 - Parise scores less than 30 goals.

 - Suter finishes the season as a minus player

 - Rick Nash does only slightly better than he did in Columbus.

 - Anaheim makes the playoffs and Selanne's final run for a championship is an exciting one.

 - Rangers, Flyers, Wild, Hurricanes, and Kings underachieve.

 - Stars, Canadiens, Oilers and Ducks overachieve.

 - The Kings start off slow, but finish strong to barely make the playoffs.

 - Penguins and Canucks are top seeds in their respective conference.

I don't understand why people are ranking the Wings so low, just because of Lidstrom.  I mean, I know he's great and all, but he's not the whole team.  There are plenty of teams that won the Stanley Cup without Nick Lidstrom in their line up, we can too.  We have more depth and speed up front.  While other teams are cramming in as much training camp as they can before the season, Datsyuk is already in midseason form and Zetterberg and Brunner have been playing together, developing chemistry for the past few months over in Switzerland.  IMO, Kronwall can be the next Scott Stevens.  That hard hitting, stay-at-home defensive style with a big shot from the point every now and then.  Colaiacovo is a very solid pick up for us.  I think he's an improvement over Stuart.  Plus, we have Brendan Smith, who is really motivated and excited to be playing in the NHL this year.  People complain so often during the season that the Wings looked lazy or "unmotivated" out there.  We have plenty of new blood in our lineup that should change that perception.

I think the pessimists and the critics who have been predicting the Wings downfall for over a decade now are going to be surprised/disappointed.

You can't expect to win medals in this tournament if you make big mistakes like cutting your best d-man

First minute of the game, first goal for Zetterberg, assisted by Brunner.  With Omark on the same line, they are flying!
