All this whining about Holland standing pat and not selling the future, unbelievable. If I were Holland I'd have taken the easy road out last summer (- retiring with Lidas and moving up as president of hockey operations in the organization) and left my successor trying to fix a behind the pack team, going out as a GM legend! One at least has to love his will to fix it and leave (hopefully Stevie, Shero or Chiarelli) with a great roster to build from.
Develano has pissed away his chance to ever GM the Detroit Red Wings, with his stupid and insanely offending comments. This organization from top to bottom is and always was about being classy and you can't tell me Mr. I was happy with this comment. You try your best to threat players well and then someone of your own organization is throwing the players under the bus like nothing? Doesn't fly with me.
So of course people can critisize Holland all they want, but at least admire his will to fix things.
What? Who was the GM before Holland? Are you 12? Jimmy D has already been there and done it. he was the one that buildt this team from scratch. I guess you don't remember anything before 1998 or so.........
I hope Kenny can sign both Parise and Suter because if he doesn't then this place is going to go absolutely apes***. We will all be screaming for Kenny to sign anyone! Just sign anyone dammit!
There is a lot of fear on this board that Holland will do little to nothing on the 1st, on the second he will say to Khan or St James 'I explored the options, there was nothing to my liking/too expensive, I will wait until later in the month to sign bargain bin players'. This will be followed by signing a couple meh players, and Holland saying 'I think this team is competitive and I like our odds, and I have cap space to use at the deadline to fix any holes'. The final act of this play would be 'well I explored all the options and the NHL is just so competitive that all the players I wanted were too expensive' and quickly followed by 'When X player gets off the DL that will be our deadline'.
Embellishments are a bigger problem with the league and the system of refereeing, it's done league-wide, not something Dustin Brown solely does. I don't see that as justification for wishing injury upon him when he makes a borderline hit.
As mentioned, he's also been on the receiving end of embellishments and questionable hits/sticks, but whatever, you've invested excessive amounts of emotion into a single player for a league-wide issue .. hate away.
He's widely regarded as one of the biggest divers in the game, by many people, not just me. I didn't wish injury on him, either. I said he's gonna get a bit of a pummeling for the running around he does. You don't think a Coyote is going to go after him next season? This is also the first time I've discussed Brown on the forums. Stop putting words in my mouth and making s*** up.
Yup, cause Bettman was calling the games himself. I know he had a wireless transmitter radio and he was reporting down to the refs in both games on what they should call and how they should handle things. I guess the old addage is true here....
If your team is losing, blame the refs.
If its not the refs fault, blame Bettman.
If its in doubt, blame them both.
EDIT: It seems that people just do not get good sarcastic remarks. I have added in the /sarcasm tag.
Figured this would come up the next time the Wings lost a playoff series.
A luxury tax system is nice, but it still encourages more spending. Teams had proven when there was no system in place to curb their spending that they would spend themselves into bankruptcy to try and be competitive as far as having superstars and getting (at very least) into the playoffs is concerned. A luxury tax would, despite the "sharing" of tax revenues of those over a designated cap, still encourage reckless spending and thus pit the NHL into the same problem it had pre-cap era.
This is without foresight at all, and imo it's just a way to get the Wings out of a cap system so they can spend a lot more money and buy a lot more superstars again so we can see another roster like that of 2002.
its funny how ever since game 2 you guys have been saying "this series is fixed, the refs are getting paid, why bother watching this series", yet you guys are all still here. do you guys believe what you say? obviously not, your actions prove other wise.
