Well Nyquist is from a fairly well off family in southern Sweden where they have a small mansion and land and horses and stuff so Nyquists nickname within the Swedish group of the wings is Horse polo Gustav!

Wow... Great catch Ekmanc!!! Impressive investigative journalism.... Now I see the #14 on his polo jersey Hilarious

#2542575 Lucic has a meltdown as Bruins get smacked by Habs...again

Posted by The Secret on 20 October 2014 - 09:15 AM

I used to dream of having Lucic in Detroit but he is nothing more than a bigger version of Sean Avery. He has no respect for the game, his colleagues nor the fans. I can't stand him since seeing him stick a helpless DK in the gooch last season. He is a 200+ lbs 2 year old baby except his tantrums will eventually serious injure someone.

I first saw the animated gif of this last incident with him raising his arms to taunt the crowd and thought "whats the big deal". But when you see the full clip and makes the jack off gesture to the crowd first I think it is a big deal and he needs to have his shackles put back on and to be drug back to his cage at the zoo where these kinds of behaviours are expected. I get that its an emotional game and the fans in Montreal aren't the friendliest but there are kids watching for pete's sake. The guy is a tool and needs some punishment for his crap.

#2537581 Babcock " I dont think it will be my final year here"

Agreed, which is why I said wait and see how the season turns out.

But I disagree with your second point.  Babs has got plenty of good young talent on defense too.  But we'll never know how much better we'd be if he doesn't play them.  Hence his perplexing "Kindl and Lashoff's jobs are safe" interview.  We've got to remember that until injuries forced his hand a year ago he wasn't aware of what he had on offense either.  When it comes to playing young guys, Babs is risk averse.  Which I'd understand if our team was really good.  But it isn't.  So I don't see the problem in tinkering with the defense given the dirth of talent we've got sitting in GR.

Babcock knows what healthy competition does... not only for the current roster players but for the young challengers! You can't dump a stay at home safe guy like Lash in hopes one of the young guns does a better job... that kid has to fight to take it and that vet has to fight to keep it. We will never have the dominance of days past, I believe our new championships will be the direct result of these competitions and will provide a balance of strength throughout the lineup...

Is this post meant to be tongue in cheek?  I just want to know whether you're being sarcastic before I respond.

Right, but we know Holland isn't going anywhere, and Babs has got some pretty good talent to work with this year.  So if the outcome is yet again underwhelming, would it be the worst thing in the world to let him go and try a different direction?

No I am serious. I've been  Wings fan for a very long time... through the Dead Wings era, to the Glory days to now. I've seen the massive difference a good coach makes when Bowman came in. I also saw what happened when Bowman's green eared understudy was handed the same exact team pretty much and rode it into the ground. Then Babcock coming in and doing what he has always done and that is squeeze the very best out of what he has and find ways to win. I believe without Babcock we are not still running this playoff streak. Think about the massive changes this team has undergone in the last 3 years due to retirements and a plague of injuries and inconsistent play. Babcock is not the reason for anything that seems to have been "underwhelming". What is underwhelming to us spoiled rotten Red Wing fans is a dream for many other teams. How many of the current top teams have spent their time not long ago in sucksville to pile up top drafts to then bubble to the top? We will not spend any time in the cellar like many teams do (these past fews season is the Hockeytown equivalent really... and we still made the playoffs). I truly believe this doesn't happen if it not for the world class leadership of Babs... You don't ever let a talent like him get away! He is happy here... the best owner, the best GM (not to say he doesnt make mistakes but he is the best), best treated employee's in ALL THE NHL!!!! That alone is worth staying, so will his new contract (I hope Babs is made the highest paid ever) he deserves it ansd so do we!

Another one of these ridiculous threads.... everytime Babcock farts there seems to be more speculation that he is not happy (even though he says he is) and he is going somewhere (probably Toronto because they are already planning their Stanley Cup Parade).

The other hilarious thing is that folks believe that replacing a battle tested and proven winner/veteran/warrior/genius (Mr. B-cock) with a green eared but eager rookie (Blashill) is somehow going to ward off massive debilitating injuries to key players, improve goalie consistency, prevent hall of fame legends from ever retiring, strengthen backup goalie's groinal area, add testoterone back into the balls of mules AND be that which attracts every key free agent to want to sign up for all of this (deep breath) will undoubtedly improve things.

Babcock + Holland + Health + Experience = Success wait and see

#2537256 Did the Wings change the font on their jerseys?

Posted by The Secret on 25 September 2014 - 06:49 AM

Is that supposed to be a butthole?

Tell me that's supposed to be a butthole.

Its a butthole

I'm sure they are being seriously sarcastic ;) but I could be wrong.

I thought it was a bunghole. Considering the whole Beavis N Butthead thang. But than again I've been drinking. Sooo..

It is a bunghole too

Should have been a graphic of a shelf with a monster sitting on it... Maybe a graphic of a groin shattered into a million pieces?

#2534461 Holland signs 4 year extension with wings **MOD Warning Post 130**

Posted by The Secret on 18 August 2014 - 07:43 AM

Although I have not liked some of Hollands moves or non-moves over the years, some I can never ever let go of (Hossa), I think the track record over all speaks for itself. He is a pioneer IMO. Its been said numerous times before but we are frikkin spoiled. Completely spoiled rotten! We are lucky to have Holland, we are lucky to have Babcock, Extremely lucky to be owned by the Illitches,  and we are lucky to have seen 23 straight years of playoffs (no matter how crappy the last few have been). There are plenty of team out there that would be thrilled to see their team make the post season and be BBQ'd in the first round just to see their team in a meaningful game. NONE of this happens without Holland! This team has lost some big time players in the past few years whose impact could never be measured in advance, we've lost how many man games to injuries?, Had how many rookie's? AND had quite a few crap roster moves/non-moves and yet 23 years and counting, a stocked cupboard of young talent and an extremely bright future that will NOT take us blowing balls at the bottom of the league for 5 years before we can start to bubble back to the top!!!! Holland is in uncharted waters and we will see how stealthy he is. Next up is to lock down Babs and DK, and he will locked them both for a good amount of time and watch as we begin to mature and compete again wityhout having to eat crap at the bottom for a while! Thanks Kenny! Fans need to realize that the days of Red WIngs sailing through to championships is long over and the next generation of Cup Champions in Detroit will be honed from within, won't dominate as before but will cut more evenly with 4 lines.

#2524216 Shawn Thornton will not be returning to the Bruins

Posted by The Secret on 17 June 2014 - 11:38 AM

This is a message board I don't care if my  argument sticks or not but the fact his,  this series truly gave some fans and maybe the front office a false look on where this team really is. Boston on the other hand provided a very clear picture and not a good one at that.

What a load of garbage... how did the results give ANYONE a clear look at where this team is at? In order to clearly assess where this team is shouldnt you have a look at what it can do when healthy? We had so much turn over, inexperience and injuries that past 2 years that we have zero indication at what this team can do. We have definite needs for improvement but we have no gage at all at what we can do if healthy. Add now some much valued experience to our youth (who carried us into the play offs), the elimination of dead weight and some health and we have a team that can compete with the best immediately. It won't steam roll to the finish like in tha past but it can run with the pack and compete to win

People need to stop the Iginla dream he is not going to go to a team at crossroads. Guys wants a cup and the Wings are very far away from even contending for one, much less being the favorites.

We are not that far away at all IMO. 2 years ago we limped into the playoffs and gave the eventual Stanley Cup Champs the biggest challenge they had despite the most adversity our team has seen in decades. We need a piece or 2 plus health to go along with the experience that our youth have gotten and we are back in business.... we may never have the run away team like we have had in the past but we are not the Edmonton Oilers... we have one of the best GMs in the league, THE best coach and one of the best farm systems.

#2524131 Dan Cleary may return...sigh

Posted by The Secret on 17 June 2014 - 07:41 AM

I am ok with a cheap 2 way contract.  I think he would provide good leadership for the kids in the Griffins organization for sure.

Cleary has been a good Red Wing until last year. I agree with Nightfall that if he is signed to a cheapish 2 way contract it can't hurt anything and will at least provide the Griffins with a strong experienced Vet to help the kids along. When Cleary hangs them up he will be the next ex-player hired within the organization.

#2520169 Regner: Next year could be Babcock's last

Posted by The Secret on 12 May 2014 - 07:10 PM

I totally agree, but when you hear KH talk about "not wanting to be a developmental team for league management" you've got to think there's more to it than just wanting to wait until after the rebuild.  Then again, that's speculation, so what do I know?  My whole point was just to say that if Babs getting extended was a done deal from both sides, then why isn't it a done deal?

Likely because it is not an important decision for any of them at this moment. Babcock has spelled it out pretty clearly:

1. If they are happy (which I would bet they are) then he is happy.

2. If he is happy then he is perfectly comfortable with the ownership and the management and the direction the team is heading.

3. If they are not happy, he will not be happy but he is also not worried because he would have another job within minute of that information becoming public.

4. Scotty Bowman went year to year.

Someone else also pointed out that if you are worried about your future you lock down the longest fattest deal you can as fast as you can. Babcock has way too much of a pedigree ( and a winning pedigree.. most winning pedigree in Detroit history if I am not mistaken) to sweat that kind of stuff

PS. Yes I know I am a Babock homer! Rightfully so. We don't want another "don't know what you got till it's gone" song to play out.... I'm looking at you mouthless David Lewis

Who would you rather have? Mule or Rick Nash and his two goals in his last 28 playoff games?

Rick Nash
