This is a message board I don't care if my argument sticks or not but the fact his, this series truly gave some fans and maybe the front office a false look on where this team really is. Boston on the other hand provided a very clear picture and not a good one at that.
What a load of garbage... how did the results give ANYONE a clear look at where this team is at? In order to clearly assess where this team is shouldnt you have a look at what it can do when healthy? We had so much turn over, inexperience and injuries that past 2 years that we have zero indication at what this team can do. We have definite needs for improvement but we have no gage at all at what we can do if healthy. Add now some much valued experience to our youth (who carried us into the play offs), the elimination of dead weight and some health and we have a team that can compete with the best immediately. It won't steam roll to the finish like in tha past but it can run with the pack and compete to win
People need to stop the Iginla dream he is not going to go to a team at crossroads. Guys wants a cup and the Wings are very far away from even contending for one, much less being the favorites.
We are not that far away at all IMO. 2 years ago we limped into the playoffs and gave the eventual Stanley Cup Champs the biggest challenge they had despite the most adversity our team has seen in decades. We need a piece or 2 plus health to go along with the experience that our youth have gotten and we are back in business.... we may never have the run away team like we have had in the past but we are not the Edmonton Oilers... we have one of the best GMs in the league, THE best coach and one of the best farm systems.
I am ok with a cheap 2 way contract. I think he would provide good leadership for the kids in the Griffins organization for sure.
Cleary has been a good Red Wing until last year. I agree with Nightfall that if he is signed to a cheapish 2 way contract it can't hurt anything and will at least provide the Griffins with a strong experienced Vet to help the kids along. When Cleary hangs them up he will be the next ex-player hired within the organization.
I totally agree, but when you hear KH talk about "not wanting to be a developmental team for league management" you've got to think there's more to it than just wanting to wait until after the rebuild. Then again, that's speculation, so what do I know? My whole point was just to say that if Babs getting extended was a done deal from both sides, then why isn't it a done deal?
Likely because it is not an important decision for any of them at this moment. Babcock has spelled it out pretty clearly:
1. If they are happy (which I would bet they are) then he is happy.
2. If he is happy then he is perfectly comfortable with the ownership and the management and the direction the team is heading.
3. If they are not happy, he will not be happy but he is also not worried because he would have another job within minute of that information becoming public.
4. Scotty Bowman went year to year.
Someone else also pointed out that if you are worried about your future you lock down the longest fattest deal you can as fast as you can. Babcock has way too much of a pedigree ( and a winning pedigree.. most winning pedigree in Detroit history if I am not mistaken) to sweat that kind of stuff
PS. Yes I know I am a Babock homer! Rightfully so. We don't want another "don't know what you got till it's gone" song to play out.... I'm looking at you mouthless David Lewis
Thanks Coach!!! You deserve the trophy for getting us into the playoffs for the 23rd straight year despite having set the record for most man games lost to injury, despite having to deal with garbage like Cleary, Sammy, Bert, Franzen etc, desptie having a revolving door of rookies in the line up. Couldn't have done it without you!!!
In this article by Dave Feschuk in today's Toronto Star, he suggests that Toronto should make a strong push to fire Randy Carlyle hire Mr. Babcock.
I think Dave Feschuk may be hanging out with Rob Ford a little too much. Babcock isn't going anywhere. LOL.... the article speculates Babcock isn't happy, that the Datsyuk and Zetterberg era window has closed and he is waiting to see what upgrades, if any, are made if any this off season before he makes his decision. Makes me laugh because we can ice the same banged up s*** and still be more of a competitor then The Leafs. Team with the greatest ownership/management and culture + a bright future, rich history and 23 straight years of play off experience vs. the team that has done nothing since 1967 except suck and choke (Just like their current mayor ), comes with the most pressure on a HC and Team, has horrible ownership/management (Maybe Shanny will eventually change this). I think if Babcock makes a Pro's and Con's list the ONLY Pro would be the money they will spend on him. Keep dreaming leafers... Toronto is the laughing stock of Canada
Whoa, sit back in your arm chair and realize this /\ is a huge load of crap! Look at Dave Lewis... you think he thought he could win a Cup with Scotty's team? and did he? Nope, he failed miserably with basically the same team. Great players don't equal success if you can't get the most out of them or dont use them properly.
If we don't have Babcock behind the bench this season we don't make the playoffs for the 23rd straight year. Babcock isn't going anywhere and rightfully so. Babcock retires a Red Wing!
No, an overabundance of talent did that.
Not to discount coaching but when the deck is stacked as well as it was.. coaching becomes less important.
Here too... BUll Crap! For the same reasons in my previous post!
Except for that totally unnecessary penalty that took the Wings off the PP when they could have put a fork in Boston, gave the Bruins a brief PP which they scored on. It was a game, and likely, series changer.
I remember that looking like a huge bit of embellishment from a player that has a very long list of embellishing things..... I don't think a bump like that should completely corkscrew a 6' 9" behemoth. Nor the previous game when 5' 9" Tatar somehow mustered the strength to throw the same 6' 9" man.
Thanks for posting this... it made my day!! The reaction of Cap'n little boy will be with me all day... so fun! Atta boy Tootoo, here is hoping that with some of the dead things off of our roster next season there will be a spot for Tootoo and what he brings. I would love LOVE to see Tootoo flatten that sail on Marchands face.... I would react just like Capn's little boy!!!
I dreamt of having Lucic in Detroit but this kind of thing is not a heat of the moment thing.... it's a low down filthy and dispicable play and NOT something I would be happy seeing our players doing. Why does a big tough kid like Lucic have to resort to swinging his stick at the low hanging fruit of an unsuspecting player? This guy has zero respect for the safety of the players or the game!!! It's a cry baby reaction for Dekeyser cleanly knocking him off the puck 2 seconds before. Sad thing is we have NOONE to put him in his place.... Maybe Johan will remove his cloak of invisibility and rub his vagine on Lucic in retaliation, probably not though.
Patty was a great role player. I liked him as a Red Wing and hope he does well in Nashville... I'd rather see him get a regular gig somewhere, he deserves to play. Good luck Pat, thanks for the memories... Like this:
