#2643792 Mike Green

Posted by The Secret on 21 December 2015 - 09:49 AM

I really like the addition of Mike Green. He hasnt been as offensive (yet) as we'd hoped but it probably has to do with getting use to a new team and system but he is not the defensive liability I thought he'd be and man is he ever a great skater.... smooth! He has a great shot form the point that he needs to lean into more often. Once Blashill learns how to coach an NHL team and utilize the weapons he has Green will provide more but I am still really happy with him so far.

#2643597 Adam Oates being brought in to help PP

improve the PP by acquiring the correct net front presence, I ike Abby, but he is not a PP specialist....AND SHOOT THE FRICKIN PUCK! Stop with the fancy pussyfoot passing! 9 times out of 10 Kronwall passes the puck even when he has time to lean into a one time slapper! Stop being so fancy, go back to basics! Shoot hard and shoot often!  Pummel the net! You got Mike Green with a rocket shot. shoot it! A huge net front presence, and put a guy in the slot on opposite sides of the puck....shoot it! The main problem is not shooting and looking for that perfect play.  Sure it looks beautiful when it works 10% of the time, but the other 90% its just one too many passess....BLAST THE PUCK! Even in front of the net, you're always told that when you shoot it, try to drive it through the back of the net, stop with the soft little taps at the puck!
Simple....I'd teach them for half the cash Oatsie is getting! But its nice to see him (kind of)back within the organization.

I looked for the button to LOVE this post but couldn't find it. You my friend are 100000% correct. Much less ticky tacky crap for a while and dig into some old school blast at the net and muck the puck hockey.... Get ugly

Who would you have taken his job?

The Koala. There were some really good seasoned coaches available, The Koala being one of them!

I'm not giving up on Blashill nor am I saying to fire him (yet). But I am saying that he had better be finding his way very fast. This is too good of a team to be barely floating around .500 hockey. Babcocks s***ty Leafs are now approaching .500 and this team is far and away better then Taranna

Guys, RELAX!!!!

Take a breather for a bit. It's all good. It's Friday. Vlad is just trying to keep it civil. That's all.

Secret, how long have you been a hockey fan? Im curious as to why babcock is your favorite. Especially over Bowman. Tell me.

I'm a 40 year old man and have been a wings fan for as far and I can remember. Read my posts throughout this thread to know why Babcock is my fave. Babs has alot of coaching left in him and may have even been able to surpass Bowman had he chosen not to be the mechanic fixnig a broken Mustang with no parts and a plunger!

I would be so pissed if i was a leafs fan and the coach getting paid 6 mil a year says "its going to take time". Thats such an out by Babcock. If he's so good, why is it going to take time? He's supposed to fix it fast. Not turn Toronto into a development project. Lame. "Toronto has given me an opportunity to make an immediate impact, and thats what I plan on doing. This team is gonna be a winner now. Not in 5 years. Now." If he would have said that and followed thru, then I would have to believe the Babcock hype. But he's just confirming my belief - great all star team coach. BFD.

Dude, look at his team. Look at what they have coming up soon. The guy is not a miracle worker and his message from the start was "its going to take time". It's not like he lied saying his presence somehow magically will translate into instant success. Your suggestion that he is somehow supposed to "fix it fast: is like asking the best mechanic in the world to fix your broken down mustang with no parts and a plunger... that is lame!

Who knows? Probably for the same reason that John Tortarella is the Coach for Team USA instead of better coaches like Laviolette, or Cooper, or Bylsma.

You're not the best because you have a particular position.  You're the best when you've had more success at the highest possible level.  And by that (completely reasonable) standard, Quenneville is the best.

Edit:  That's like saying whoever is Team Canada's captain is by default the best player in the world (so long as they win Gold), regardless of what they've done in the NHL.  Which is absurd.

Sorry. I don't think you measure success solely on the number of Stanley Cups you have won. To me the way Babcock coached some of these teams even into the play offs (the one's that had no business to be there) is as big a measure of success if not more. The greatest challenge Quenville's hawks faced on route to the Cup a few years ago was Babcock's limping, battered and bruised Red Wings. Team Canada chose Babcock because they believe him to be the best despite others having more cups.

#2635112 Play Coach - When do you pick a goalie

Posted by The Secret on 04 November 2015 - 08:26 AM

There is nothing better then a solid 1 - 2 knockout tandem. Share the ice unless one starts out playing the other.... keeps 2 goalie's fresh for the play offs.

I'm pointing a finger at Blashill this is kind of ridiculous, idk what they're working on in practice.

It's not shooting at the net... or scoring. Maybe they should try that some in practice

Each one of these losses to s***e teams could end up being nails in the coffin down the road. What ever Blashill's plan is up until now it is not working... maybe it did in the AHL but so far it's a belly flop in the big league. Didn't the team finally respond in Vancouver after Zetterberg let them have it? .... after ZETTERBERG let them have it!! He is the Captain and he must lead but the guy has never been known for verbally blasting the team. That was Babcock doing that. This team does not seem prepared enough and it shows at game time. I think Blashill can be a fine coach but his learning curve better be a very steep one. And yes, I do believe this is a better team... many young player have gotten some very valuable experience (regular season and playoffs), we FINALLY got that big RH defenseman we have been needing and it has been a non-factor, we now have 2 capable starting goalie's, Zetterberg is looking better then he has in years, Franzen is better on the shelf then on the ice. I'm seeing a very ill prepared team then what we are use too.... Where is our #2 PP from last season? Never going to have that again until they consistantly get shots on net. Not looking to run Blashill or any player out of town but we need to start seeing steady and consistent improvement each and every game not only when our mild mannered Captain gets pissed off.

Well Nyquist is from a fairly well off family in southern Sweden where they have a small mansion and land and horses and stuff so Nyquists nickname within the Swedish group of the wings is Horse polo Gustav!

Wow... Great catch Ekmanc!!! Impressive investigative journalism.... Now I see the #14 on his polo jersey Hilarious

I posted it a few pages back, but here it is again.

Wow... this made me really really mad. I've tried to defend Holland as much as I possibly can but if I could i would kick him straight in the twig n' berries then make him like a piece of white dog poo. Why is he toying with this? 5 years at 5 million should be the easiest money he has ever spent and the best idea he has ever had.... if he screws up this and Babcock leaves for a measly few million dollars...has a Hossa'ish tinge to it. Jeez, He paid Samuelsson 3 million didn't he? To sit on the bench and rub his sore titty? WAKE UP HOLLAND!!! GUHDAMMET!!!!

#2542575 Lucic has a meltdown as Bruins get smacked by Habs...again

Posted by The Secret on 20 October 2014 - 09:15 AM

I used to dream of having Lucic in Detroit but he is nothing more than a bigger version of Sean Avery. He has no respect for the game, his colleagues nor the fans. I can't stand him since seeing him stick a helpless DK in the gooch last season. He is a 200+ lbs 2 year old baby except his tantrums will eventually serious injure someone.

I first saw the animated gif of this last incident with him raising his arms to taunt the crowd and thought "whats the big deal". But when you see the full clip and makes the jack off gesture to the crowd first I think it is a big deal and he needs to have his shackles put back on and to be drug back to his cage at the zoo where these kinds of behaviours are expected. I get that its an emotional game and the fans in Montreal aren't the friendliest but there are kids watching for pete's sake. The guy is a tool and needs some punishment for his crap.

Agreed, which is why I said wait and see how the season turns out.

But I disagree with your second point.  Babs has got plenty of good young talent on defense too.  But we'll never know how much better we'd be if he doesn't play them.  Hence his perplexing "Kindl and Lashoff's jobs are safe" interview.  We've got to remember that until injuries forced his hand a year ago he wasn't aware of what he had on offense either.  When it comes to playing young guys, Babs is risk averse.  Which I'd understand if our team was really good.  But it isn't.  So I don't see the problem in tinkering with the defense given the dirth of talent we've got sitting in GR.

Babcock knows what healthy competition does... not only for the current roster players but for the young challengers! You can't dump a stay at home safe guy like Lash in hopes one of the young guns does a better job... that kid has to fight to take it and that vet has to fight to keep it. We will never have the dominance of days past, I believe our new championships will be the direct result of these competitions and will provide a balance of strength throughout the lineup...

Is this post meant to be tongue in cheek?  I just want to know whether you're being sarcastic before I respond.

Right, but we know Holland isn't going anywhere, and Babs has got some pretty good talent to work with this year.  So if the outcome is yet again underwhelming, would it be the worst thing in the world to let him go and try a different direction?

No I am serious. I've been  Wings fan for a very long time... through the Dead Wings era, to the Glory days to now. I've seen the massive difference a good coach makes when Bowman came in. I also saw what happened when Bowman's green eared understudy was handed the same exact team pretty much and rode it into the ground. Then Babcock coming in and doing what he has always done and that is squeeze the very best out of what he has and find ways to win. I believe without Babcock we are not still running this playoff streak. Think about the massive changes this team has undergone in the last 3 years due to retirements and a plague of injuries and inconsistent play. Babcock is not the reason for anything that seems to have been "underwhelming". What is underwhelming to us spoiled rotten Red Wing fans is a dream for many other teams. How many of the current top teams have spent their time not long ago in sucksville to pile up top drafts to then bubble to the top? We will not spend any time in the cellar like many teams do (these past fews season is the Hockeytown equivalent really... and we still made the playoffs). I truly believe this doesn't happen if it not for the world class leadership of Babs... You don't ever let a talent like him get away! He is happy here... the best owner, the best GM (not to say he doesnt make mistakes but he is the best), best treated employee's in ALL THE NHL!!!! That alone is worth staying, so will his new contract (I hope Babs is made the highest paid ever) he deserves it ansd so do we!

Another one of these ridiculous threads.... everytime Babcock farts there seems to be more speculation that he is not happy (even though he says he is) and he is going somewhere (probably Toronto because they are already planning their Stanley Cup Parade).

The other hilarious thing is that folks believe that replacing a battle tested and proven winner/veteran/warrior/genius (Mr. B-cock) with a green eared but eager rookie (Blashill) is somehow going to ward off massive debilitating injuries to key players, improve goalie consistency, prevent hall of fame legends from ever retiring, strengthen backup goalie's groinal area, add testoterone back into the balls of mules AND be that which attracts every key free agent to want to sign up for all of this (deep breath) will undoubtedly improve things.

Babcock + Holland + Health + Experience = Success wait and see
