#2675124 They're BAAAAAAACK

Posted by The Secret on 04 May 2016 - 07:28 PM

Drew and Mike are back.... You heard me right DREW AND MIKE ARE BACK!!!!!! :yahoo:

Drew and Mike have started their own podcast and the first episode is out. Spread the word... Let's welcome them back after being away for way to long

Let's not forget the fella's at The Detroitcast. They are putting out a near Drew and Mike quality show for the last few years. Lead by Mike Wolters the former producer of the famous WRIF Drew and Mike show

Mornings with the Drew and Mike show were worth waking up for... then the dreaded END came. Suddenly, suddenly and all of a sudden mornings were sad (screw dave and chuck). With the birth of The Detroit Cast the clouds started to thin and eventually the sun once again began to shine. Mornings were good again. But now... The Actual Drew and Mike are back together again PLUS The DetroitCast is better then ever... Donald Trump could quite possibly be President  :bad: , Steve Yzerman could quite possibly be coming home to GM us back to the Glory Days... what else could happen???

Seriously Drew and Mike.. Check them out! TDC, check them out!!!

#2672911 I Hate Jeff Blashill because ...

Posted by The Secret on 22 April 2016 - 07:45 AM

The team looked confused/lost and was mistake prone all season long. To me they looked ill prepared and/or his system was crap (probably a bit of both). This team imo is way better then Blashill was able yo get them to play. I think the team is younger with more talent then we have seen in a while yet the power play that was near league best last season sucked gigantic blue veiny beach balls. Face offs? what are those? Clearly NOT something that was practiced. How about CLEARING THE ZONE? Not practiced... What was practiced (and used a zillion times a game) was the lame zone entry of forwards skate puck to blue line then stop, pass back to defenseman and wait for him to carry it in.... SO STUPID!!! With all the speed this team has dump and chase for Pete's sake. Let those young speedy kids retrieve them pucks. This should have been the season Pav, Z and Kronwall down shifted to get them a break rather then expect they produce like they were 25 again.

Worst of all we lost out on the chance for some really good coaches for this failed experiment.

Can I start the bring back Dave Lewis thread now?

#2671820 Fixing this mess....

Posted by The Secret on 20 April 2016 - 06:20 AM

Didn't read a word of this post but I will throw my 2 cents in on how to fix this mess... Run Blashill and his boring hockey system clear out of town and BEG Babs to come back!

The Blashill experiment failed miserably. Don't believe me, watch the never ending team confusion and random line shuffling. Watch what has become a very boring and predictable team get owned over and over and over again.

That stupid new zone entry move they use repeatedly.... forward quickly carries the puck to the opponents blue line then all forwards stop, pass the puck back to the defense, then wait for the defense-man to carry the puck in. Guddammet!!!! This team is young... turn the youth loose!!!! Forget the dumb pass back BS. If you can't carry the puck in then dump and chase. Get it deep and have that youth chase and hound. We don't have the high powered super stars of decades ago... we need an old school smash-mouth system. Aggressive fore-check, mucking and grinding in the corners, hard shots on net and young kids crashing and fighting for pucks in front. Teach them to step in and finish a check... no more patty cakes! No need for killing people but checks that make the other team think.

#2670823 Tampa radio host's harsh words for DET fans/players

Posted by The Secret on 18 April 2016 - 08:25 PM

Well... Abdelkader did look like a chump. At least drop the gloves and give him a big hug or throw him on the ground rather than look at the ref, shrug your shoulders and look like a giant vageen. That and someone throwing beer at the player? Dick move. That is the definition of classless and it's also a sin to waste a $15 USD beer like that. If you did that in Canada your buddy standing next to you jersey's you, give you a beat down, makes you walk home and drinks any roadie's you left in the car.

Tyler Johnson is what one or both of Nyquist and Tatar should be. I would gladly trade Nyquist + Tatar + their european cloak of invisibility for Tyler Johnson

#2668653 Mantha

Posted by The Secret on 15 April 2016 - 12:10 PM

I was a huge fan of Blashill with the Griffins and when he got hired as the new head coach of the Red Wings I was very excited to see what he could do. The main reason being, I loved the way he managed his roster down in Grand Rapids and put the kids in great positions to succeed. Things started out great with Larkin making the roster, and we all thought, this is the changing of the guard. We're finally going to start transitioning from the vets to the youth. For whatever reason, somewhere along the way, that changed. We started going back to the same old well, and leaning on the vets yet again. I'm not sure what caused him to revert back to the ways of old, if there was pressure from management to keep the streak alive or what. Regardless of when it happened or why it happened, there's no question that there have been major misusage of players for parts of this season, and especially down this last stretch.

I'm of the mindset set now that we've made the playoffs, we've kept the streak alive, we're not expected to go deep, now is the time to start playing for the future. We need to get these kids in the lineup to get them some valuable playoff experience, as well as potentially give us a better shot at winning. I'm okay with Mantha playing big minutes down in Grand Rapids, if that's what management believe is the best for his development. What I'm not okay with is Andersson in the lineup in any capacity over Jurco. And don't try to spin this as me saying that Jurco is the answer to our offensive woes (like some did with the Mantha debate), because (again) I'm not. What I am saying is that Jurco is just as good defensively, can also kill penalties and is about 100 times better offensively. Andersson is not an NHL calibre player and should not be anywhere close to this roster.

The defense has been abysmal at best, and Blash decided to make a change, he switched Ericsson and Quincey. Yup, that should really jump start this team... Instead of inserting Smith in, you switch two defensive defensemen, expecting some huge change? What a joke...

With Datsyuk and Zetterberg nearing the end of their career I would have thought they should be moved down to the second line to:

1. Spend a bit less time on the ice and preserve them for the post season

2. Play against opponents 2nd string rather than 1st string

3. Start getting the next generation of leadership seasoned and playing in that capacity

4. Give the kids as much exposure to the Datsyuks and Zetterbergs while we still have them

#2668650 Mantha

Posted by The Secret on 15 April 2016 - 12:03 PM

Pretty ridiculous blowing the last chance mantha will ever have from being surrounded pavel , Blashill was all about the kids when he came here but athanasiou is playing 5 minutes a game now and all the kids he practically coached in Grand Rapids are being benched

Jeff let's keep playing it safe Blashill could turn out to be a big mistake

Brad Richards and Anderson won't help us win a cup , having athanasiou and a sniper like mantha get more ice time on the powerplay and top 6 will

Whatever , at least we got 25 years now .... That seems like the only goal now

Put the kid in and let him get the experience!!! It's a no brainer. It's not like they get past the first round with this horse crap coaching anyway. Make lemons out of lemonade Blashill.

#2643792 Mike Green

Posted by The Secret on 21 December 2015 - 09:49 AM

I really like the addition of Mike Green. He hasnt been as offensive (yet) as we'd hoped but it probably has to do with getting use to a new team and system but he is not the defensive liability I thought he'd be and man is he ever a great skater.... smooth! He has a great shot form the point that he needs to lean into more often. Once Blashill learns how to coach an NHL team and utilize the weapons he has Green will provide more but I am still really happy with him so far.

#2643597 Adam Oates being brought in to help PP

Posted by The Secret on 19 December 2015 - 09:58 PM

improve the PP by acquiring the correct net front presence, I ike Abby, but he is not a PP specialist....AND SHOOT THE FRICKIN PUCK! Stop with the fancy pussyfoot passing! 9 times out of 10 Kronwall passes the puck even when he has time to lean into a one time slapper! Stop being so fancy, go back to basics! Shoot hard and shoot often!  Pummel the net! You got Mike Green with a rocket shot. shoot it! A huge net front presence, and put a guy in the slot on opposite sides of the puck....shoot it! The main problem is not shooting and looking for that perfect play.  Sure it looks beautiful when it works 10% of the time, but the other 90% its just one too many passess....BLAST THE PUCK! Even in front of the net, you're always told that when you shoot it, try to drive it through the back of the net, stop with the soft little taps at the puck!
Simple....I'd teach them for half the cash Oatsie is getting! But its nice to see him (kind of)back within the organization.

I looked for the button to LOVE this post but couldn't find it. You my friend are 100000% correct. Much less ticky tacky crap for a while and dig into some old school blast at the net and muck the puck hockey.... Get ugly

#2637782 Jeff Blashill = Dave Lewis 2.0 / Coaching Change

Posted by The Secret on 18 November 2015 - 08:51 AM

Who would you have taken his job?

The Koala. There were some really good seasoned coaches available, The Koala being one of them!

I'm not giving up on Blashill nor am I saying to fire him (yet). But I am saying that he had better be finding his way very fast. This is too good of a team to be barely floating around .500 hockey. Babcocks s***ty Leafs are now approaching .500 and this team is far and away better then Taranna

#2635368 All purpose Mike Babcock thread

Posted by The Secret on 06 November 2015 - 10:58 AM

Guys, RELAX!!!!

Take a breather for a bit. It's all good. It's Friday. Vlad is just trying to keep it civil. That's all.

Secret, how long have you been a hockey fan? Im curious as to why babcock is your favorite. Especially over Bowman. Tell me.

I'm a 40 year old man and have been a wings fan for as far and I can remember. Read my posts throughout this thread to know why Babcock is my fave. Babs has alot of coaching left in him and may have even been able to surpass Bowman had he chosen not to be the mechanic fixnig a broken Mustang with no parts and a plunger!

#2635366 All purpose Mike Babcock thread

Posted by The Secret on 06 November 2015 - 10:53 AM

I would be so pissed if i was a leafs fan and the coach getting paid 6 mil a year says "its going to take time". Thats such an out by Babcock. If he's so good, why is it going to take time? He's supposed to fix it fast. Not turn Toronto into a development project. Lame. "Toronto has given me an opportunity to make an immediate impact, and thats what I plan on doing. This team is gonna be a winner now. Not in 5 years. Now." If he would have said that and followed thru, then I would have to believe the Babcock hype. But he's just confirming my belief - great all star team coach. BFD.

Dude, look at his team. Look at what they have coming up soon. The guy is not a miracle worker and his message from the start was "its going to take time". It's not like he lied saying his presence somehow magically will translate into instant success. Your suggestion that he is somehow supposed to "fix it fast: is like asking the best mechanic in the world to fix your broken down mustang with no parts and a plunger... that is lame!

Who knows? Probably for the same reason that John Tortarella is the Coach for Team USA instead of better coaches like Laviolette, or Cooper, or Bylsma.

You're not the best because you have a particular position.  You're the best when you've had more success at the highest possible level.  And by that (completely reasonable) standard, Quenneville is the best.

Edit:  That's like saying whoever is Team Canada's captain is by default the best player in the world (so long as they win Gold), regardless of what they've done in the NHL.  Which is absurd.

Sorry. I don't think you measure success solely on the number of Stanley Cups you have won. To me the way Babcock coached some of these teams even into the play offs (the one's that had no business to be there) is as big a measure of success if not more. The greatest challenge Quenville's hawks faced on route to the Cup a few years ago was Babcock's limping, battered and bruised Red Wings. Team Canada chose Babcock because they believe him to be the best despite others having more cups.

#2635112 Play Coach - When do you pick a goalie

Posted by The Secret on 04 November 2015 - 08:26 AM

There is nothing better then a solid 1 - 2 knockout tandem. Share the ice unless one starts out playing the other.... keeps 2 goalie's fresh for the play offs.

I'm pointing a finger at Blashill this is kind of ridiculous, idk what they're working on in practice.

It's not shooting at the net... or scoring. Maybe they should try that some in practice
