#2297323 Where does Bertuzzi fit?

Bert will serve as our powerplay, seeing as how our powerplay is our enforcer.

Thanks for my life-away-from-life.

#2296874 Crazy, but serious, off season predictions

Perry to Detroit :P

That would be ok. At least if Homer retires, Nick would have a ride to work.

#2296758 The person below me game...

Posted by 55fan on 24 April 2012 - 04:33 PM

No. The last group I heard where I went, "Hey, I really like these guys and I'm going to listen to more of their stuff" was Lady Antebellum, and they've been out for a while.

The person below me would like to have x-ray vision as long as they could control when to activate it so as not to have to see under ugly people's clothing.

#2296664 Say what you will about Barry Trotz...

I believe that Trotz was serious. Everything he has said previously indicates to me that he looks up to Lidstrom as much as his lack of a neck allows.

I use my "Reputation' points at my bank. Every year, in return, they give me a free calendar.

Me too, but they charge 15 points a month in fees that I never agreed to when I signed up for the calendar program, and I have to carry a balance of 1,000,000 points or direct deposit 1,000 a month in order to waive the fee, neither of which is possible with my point status.

Or I could borrow 3.5 billion points that I don't need at an interest rate of 100 points per month and then I would save the 15 points.

I also get phone calls on an almost daily basis offering me their services.

And the calendar is of the Sedin twins.

I hate my bank.

#2296121 Death of the integrity of the NHL.

Posted by 55fan on 23 April 2012 - 02:58 AM

My bf doesn't follow hockey but has been trying for me. He's watched some of the playoffs this year.

He sent me the following texts tonight:
"NHL seems to have a weak commish. And it seems less than professional in many regards compared to NBA, NFL, or Major League Baseball. It is not even marketed as well as the WWF."

"Somehow somebody has left the casual NHL observer with feelings reminiscent of boxing after Holmes beat the piss out of Ali. It's like no one knows who the f*** is the heavyweight champion of the world?"

Basically, he's confused as to what is a penalty and what isn't. I've tried to explain the game, but in watching, he is confused. He has, however, independently come to the conclusion that Crosby is a *****.

He has also discovered that the game itself is pretty cool.

It's been interesting getting perspective from an outsider.

After last summer, I just don't want to see anything that reads "_________ ________ Dead at Age ___".

#2295990 Depression.

Posted by 55fan on 22 April 2012 - 09:25 PM

I usually just go hangout with friends, try and not think of what makes you depressed. I will admit that I get down on myself a lot, but I really love to help others out. I try and do that more then having myself be happy. I care more about others then myself.

That simple statement is the key to happiness. The most miserable people I know care about themselves first.

I have a good friend that I have to limit my contact with because she can tell you every single thing everyone has done in her entire life that has hurt her feelings, whether they meant to or not. I love her dearly, but I only talk to her once or twice a year.

She's a nurse, and refuses to believe that she could benefit from anti-depressants because scientifically she knows that if you have a certain mindset of misery, your brain "re-wires" itself to that frame of mind. She feels that she has gone through enough in life that she has the right to be miserable.

It's a shame because she's a loving, giving person, yet she is so focused on herself and her feelings that everything in life is a disappointment to her.

The happiest people I know are those who go out of their way to give to others without worrying about life evening out.

I firmly believe that life gives us more than it takes. We just take so many things for granted that we don't see it.

I've heard that if you have change in your pocket, you are richer than half the people on the planet. I don't know if it's true, but if you think about it- most of the people in the world don't have toilet paper.

Cheesy song from VeggieTales: "A thankful heart is a happy heart". Cheesy, but true.

I'm sure a lot of players will sign with their current team, but it's nice to see who's out there and what their cap hit is.

Thanks for posting.

I want that Lidstrom guy.

#2295443 25 Games for Torres

Posted by 55fan on 21 April 2012 - 07:15 PM

Pretty much what harold said.

I voted too harsh, not because he doesn't deserve 25 games, but because 25 is a value, like money.

You find the value of something by comparing it to similar things. The value of your home or car is assessed by comparables.

There is a market value and it depends on what people will pay, or, in this case, what comparable infractions have received.

The non-suspension of Weber happened early on, and therefore set the tone of the playoff suspension value for this round of the playoffs (thus being a perfectly acceptable conversation topic).

The post-headshot era is looking to this year for setting a tone. The tone has been more of an arpeggio.

#2295295 Have we seen the last of Holmstrom?

Posted by 55fan on 21 April 2012 - 02:18 PM

I voted yes, but I could easily be wrong.

I could see him staying as a way to keep Lids. I do think they'll go out together since Homer picks him up and Nick is a man of habit on gameday, not to mention that they're great friends.

If we get Lids on the cheap on the condition that Homer stays, I'll be happy to have Homer back (not that we'll ever know this detail, of course).

Homer could be effective as a 13th forward. I think that if he's the understood healthy scratch, he'll be more rested and able to play when needed. He'll have something to prove when he hits the ice.

He can provide a lockerroom presence even if he heads to the press box during the games, yet can be called upon to hit the ice with a veteran presence if needed. Personally, if we have more than one injury to the regulars and we've called up a kid, I think that the stability of a veteran is needed.

I think Gus will be up next season as a regular, and if we are in a situation where we have 2 forwards injured, I'd rather call up one kid and have Homer filling in for the other rather than having that much inexperience on the ice when a big gun or two is out.

I'm arguing against what I voted. I think I'm just trying to justify keeping him around for the Winter Classic.

Then after that, he can retire and get hired by Red Wings tv to interview the players. That would be tv worth watching.

#2295055 Legwand hides puck in game 4

Posted by 55fan on 21 April 2012 - 08:12 AM

I want to *****-slap him. Laughing all the while, of course. Kind of like when someone plays a practical joke on you and you get pissed, but not really angry, and you call him a bastard and smack him. (Or at least that's what you do if you're a girl, as I am.)

He pulled it off. It was a ***** move, and one that is certainly not within the rules, but ***** move or not, he had his wits about him.

Watch out, Legwand. Kharma's a *****.
