I share your dilemma. Not only the playoffs, but certain things at work and the health of people close to me has also contributed.
Usually I either go to the casino or get drunk, but the casino is killing me financially and I've become immune to whiskey.
What I have found brings joy to my life like nothing else is helping someone else. There is no greater feeling of accomplishment than to know that you have made someone else's life better. Not for your own glory or to receive praise, but just for the pure joy of knowing that the world is a better place, if only in one little area.
If you find that you expect something back, then it's a better idea to do it anonymously.
This has helped me through about 30 years of depression without meds. I firmly believe in the power of giving.
