Hopefully a team picks him up. Ive always liked the guy, and really hated having to root against him since he put that pens jersey on...

perfect!

I don't understand why people feel the need to even post when they're adding absolutely no substance to a thread... even if it's just a light-hearted, silly thread, such as this... if someone just wants to join a thread to be an ass, take it to another board...

Is this directed towards me? I was basically trying to say the same thing you did but towards T.Low for acting like a prick to the to OP.

#2020355 Scott Stevens: The Definitive Reel

Posted by Hank Dats 'N Homer on 29 July 2010 - 10:06 AM

This guy was a master of the game. I'm kind of shocked to read some people talking about how his hits were illegal. Im not saying that the hits arent illegal on todays standards, but they seemed pretty standard in the Stevens Era. The guy may have been waking a thin line with many of his its (leaving feet, hitting high, hitting late) but Hits were a part of the game then, and this guy was awesome at it. I know hockey has changed alot over the last few years, im not saying that players are "softer" but the league is taking alot more precautions (and i respect that, noone wants to see anyone get hurt or anything) but back in the day, alot of people were watching hockey because they loved the physicality of it, and man could Stevens produce.

Im not saying that im one of those guys that love violence and love to see people get hurt, but man i miss old school hockey. Yes there was more violence and a higher potential of getting hurt, but there were a hell of alot less questionable penalties. Nowadays the refs blow the whistle if a player looks at someone the wrong way, or if his hand comes off his stick to scratch his nose. I liked the old school hockey where the refs let the good ol boys play! A penalty was a penalty back then, and thats how it should be!

It was truly a sad day when Stevens retired! I got really excited 2 seasons ago when Kronwall really started to step up his physical game. I could see shades of Scott Stevens in his hits and my eyes would light up when i would see Kronner line someone up (I.e. Havlat). But ever since his last few injuries he has really slowed down that aspect of his game. Its kind of dissapointing to me, because Kronner isnt the best defensive Dmen but his physical play was making up for the areas that he was slacking in. But now to me Kronner either needs to become more of an offensive Dmen or bring back that physical play to make up for his flaws. His offense is picking up, but man id like to see him and Stuart together bruising some players up (legally).

#2020005 Are we becoming Lightning fans?

Posted by Hank Dats 'N Homer on 28 July 2010 - 09:27 AM

I've never seen the problem of calling yourself a fan of many teams. Obviously, a person has their FAVORITE team that they root for above all else, but i dont see how watching and cheering for another team makes you any less of a die hard fan of your favorite team.  I'm a hockey fan. Period. My FAVORITE team to watch has been and will always be the DETROIT RED WINGS. Am i a fan of other teams? Of course. Because my love for hockey runs deep. And i dont see anything wrong with saying that. So yes, i have seen myself become a bigger Tampa fan than i already was. Vinny and St. Louis have been two of my favorite players to watch, so ive been a Tampa fan. Then they get Stamkos, Gange, and Ellis and of course Yzerman. So now Tampa is at the top of my list of Eastern Conference teams. This team in my book is going to be very exciting to watch and i cant wait for the season to start. Again, i will never root against the Red Wings, but i dont see any problem for rooting for other teams at the same time. Again, im a hockey fan and enjoy watching other teams play as well. I know some people dont agree with this and are ONLY Wings fans, and im not saying that you are wrong or any less of a hockey fan as i am. Im just saying i really enjoy the sport, and i choose to watch more than just the Red Wings, but that doesnt mean i dont bleed Red and White.

Im the same way with other sports. Im a die hard baseball and football fan as well. My favorite baseball team is by far the Detroit Tigers. As a Tigers fan i really only truly despise one team...the Yankees. I'm also a fan of the Red Sox, the Cubs, The Braves, and the Phillies. Same with football. My favorite team is the Lions (i know, thats sad but i dont care) but i also root for the Saints (before it was the popular thing to do) and the Patriots (yes because we all love Tom Brady).

I dont see a problem with rooting for other teams as long as you know where your true allegence falls. I would never root for any of these teams when they are playing my favorite teams, but i dont see why that means i cant root for them in general and hope they do well.

#2019702 Rangers Sign Frolov

Posted by Hank Dats 'N Homer on 27 July 2010 - 12:37 PM

I dont get why people are saying overpayment here. I mean i see their points when they say his play production has gone down each year, but this guy is still very young and will be on the first line for the rangers probably. I think hes going to be pretty good for the Rangers and 3 million is a pretty small price to pay for that kind of player. I mean look around the league there are a ton of guys making that price for much less production. I think thats a pretty good caphit for a player like that.  I know LA was a good team last year, but i think he will have a pretty solid year playing on the first line in New York.

#2019295 "Investigating" How Brett Lebda is Worth 3M

Posted by Hank Dats 'N Homer on 26 July 2010 - 09:42 AM

Pretty good impression of Lebda I think. But yeah, the Cheli part was the best. I also liked the part about choosing between holding the Cup and doing the robot.

You cant possibly think that was a good impression of Lebda can you? There was nothing funny about this skit whatsoever. The only bigger waste of space then Brett Lebda are these two clowns trying to mock him. Toronto may have wasted 3 million on Lebda, but ive just wated 4 minutes of my life that i can never get back.

#2009045 Free Agency Thread

Posted by Hank Dats 'N Homer on 02 July 2010 - 08:44 AM

Man Stevie must have been walking into Tampa WIDE EYED and a smile on his face. Being in Detroit for so long, hes seen Holland have to deal with very little cap space. Going to Tampa and using their available cap space to make a big splash in free agency makes Stevie look like a kid in a candy store. Good for him! Hope Tampa will be a contender this year, atleast making the playoffs. Hes made some significant changes so i see goo things! Go Stevie And Go Bolts!

#2008573 Free Agency Thread

Posted by Hank Dats 'N Homer on 01 July 2010 - 05:23 PM

Man i feel bad for blackhawk fans. I know this sounds like sarcasm but im serious. It would suck if the Wings just won the cup and then the very next month they traded or lost to free agency alot of the guys that made an impact and got them to the cup finals. They lost alot of good young talent in a very short period of time after that same young talent won them a stanley cup. I wouldnt say the Hawks are doomed for years to come, but they are ganna have to start building from within again. I know it would suck pretty bad to say goodbye to what a 5th of your team?

#2000073 The argument for not bringing back Bertuzzi

Posted by Hank Dats 'N Homer on 15 June 2010 - 08:08 PM

Someone mentioned this in another thread, and I thought it deserved its own post - aside from the 02 squad of hall-of-famers, even in the pre-salary cap era, most of our stanley cup championship teams have NOT had a scoring third line.  all of these teams have had A) two great scoring lines, B) tough and reliable 3rd and 4th lines, C) great defense, and D) great goaltending.

A) two great scoring lines:  check.

Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Hudler-Zetterberg-Franzen

B) tough and reliable 3rd and 4th lines:  the problem here is that we seem set on resigning bertuzzi.  but he is not a 3rd or 4th line player.  he is a liability defensively and he doesn't hit anyone.  he's essentially a poor-man's holmstrom at this point in his career.  i think that we should use the rest of our cap space on acquiring a cleary-like player for this role.  any ideas?

Cleary-Abdelkader-???
Miller-Helm-Eaves
Draper
(Ritola)

C) great defense:  great in skill, but we lack toughness.  hopefully the new 6th/7th defenseman brings a little.

Lidstrom-Kronwall
Stuart-Rafalski
Kindl-Ericsson
Lilja/???
(Janik)

D) great goaltending:  imo, check.

Howard
Osgood

I dont get all the Bert hate. The guy pretty much ran the team when EVERYONE was injured. He plays decent defense, impossible to know off the puck, and likes to bang bodies every now and again. I love the guy and hope to god he stays, and id be happy if it were for another 2 years. I dont think another "cleary type player" will do much. Cleary was pretty invisible all year last year. I like him, but he didnt play like we are used to seeing him play. the only thing that cleary does better than bert is speed in my opinion.

I say keep Bert and try and get the best bang for whatever buck we have left. I'd love to see afinogenov here, but i dont think we wil have enough to get him, so try and fill the third or fourth line with a cheap free agent somewhere. Keep miller and eaves too in my opinion.

#1989687 Red Wings patiently waiting for Lidstrom's decision

Posted by Hank Dats 'N Homer on 25 May 2010 - 06:30 PM

Ive read in multiple articles that Bertuzzi doesnt want to be anywhere but here and that the money issue will be worked out. He likes playing in this atmosphere and likes the role that he has on the team. Combine that with all the Holland interviews saying that he loves how Bert plays and wants to have him back next season, and id say we have a contract in the waiting. I dont see a huge raise by anymeans as i beleive Bert is still seeing money come in from previous teams, so i dont think the wings will have to give him much more than what he was getting this season. With Williams more than likely gone, and the possibility of Lidstrom taking a pay cut, i dont think we will have a problem filling a competitive roster, one with Bertuzzi. I would look to him having a comparable season to this year with hopefully less penalties. Hopefully he can still get 20 goals playing on the 3rd line all season. he got alot of his goals this season when he was getting 1st and second line minutes when we had alot of injuries, But hopefully with Hudler returning we will be able to field a good scoring 1st 2nd and 3rd line.
