#2519197 Quebec City getting new arena

Posted by F.Michael on 04 May 2014 - 08:09 PM

QC is very small population wise. Now Bettmen dt say anything about relocation. Their best beat is to get someone to buy the Panthers and move them. east to east thing. I am just not sure a city with less than 800,000 in its metro area can maintain a team. hell Grand rapids has 1.4 million. WE WANT A TEAM! That would be stressful however.

Population means nothing if there's no fan base, or fan of the game itself.

Atlanta, Miami, and Phoenix all come to mind...Seattle wants basketball more than hockey.

The Nordiques average nearly 15,000 in their old barn while in QC, and right now it looks as though Winnipeg is doing ok.

If Bettman/BOG wish to right some of their wrongs - 1 step in the right direction would be to push the Panthers into a sale for a re-location to Quebec City...I just hope they would go back to their old jerseys, and not change like Winnipeg had.

#2519196 Now some gritty forwards.

Posted by F.Michael on 04 May 2014 - 08:01 PM

I dunno.....I don't think anything will happen - it's just how Holland is.

IMHO - if the Wings want some size, and toughness - why not spend more time scouting the WHL/OHL/QMJHL?

Instead of drafting some kid in the 3rd round who's 5'10" 160 lbs soaking wet from the Czech Republic - why not take take the kid from Edmonton, Alberta who's 6'4" 215 lbs with a penchant for gritty play?

#2518449 Wings will buy out Tootoo, not Franzen.

Posted by F.Michael on 30 April 2014 - 08:03 PM

Tootoo deserves better IMO...I don't mind seeing him cash out on the Red Wings dime - to be honest I'm glad he's going somewhere else where he'll be useful.

#2517490 What is more important?

Posted by F.Michael on 26 April 2014 - 11:37 PM

Well I agree the devils and wings for example won with balance and good/great goal contending but that was before the cap. After the cap it's the team that prioritize offense and having a really good top 6 that are winning the cup most.

Well - I agree with what you wrote above.....However - the op's question was more or less 'one or the other'...

Defense with great goaltending but mediocre offense or great offense with mediocre defense and goaltending....There's nothing about balance...I'll stick with what I said earlier - strong D, and goaltending.

#2517470 Was Legwand worth it?

Posted by F.Michael on 26 April 2014 - 10:49 PM

I think adding Legwand helped get us into the playoffs. So right now, I'll say yes.

Talk to me in a couple years for a more complete and confident answer...

This right here...

Legwand played well while Dats/Hank were outta action...Hindsight being 20/20 we'll see in a few more years to what we had given up.

#2515849 Classy move by Tootoo.

Tootoo needs to be in game 5.

#2511696 Lucic Spearing DeKeyser

Posted by F.Michael on 20 April 2014 - 12:54 AM

Sucks for Dekeyser, but I'm ok with this happening.  Sure Lucic will only get a slap on the wrist, but next game I'll be surprised if the Bruins get the benefit of the doubt on anything.  All close calls will go against them, we'll get the powerplays, the frustration will grow, thus leading to more stupid s*** from them, and more powerplays for us.

I'm not holding my breath, but I'm hoping you're right.

Unless the refs are hiding under rocks between games - they'll more than likely have seen this, and will hopefully keep a closer eye on Lucic, and the rest of the Bruins.

I may be in the minority here, but if we keep on winning I'll personally spear Danny Dekeyser in the balls 15 more times so long as I get to drink Atwater Brewery's finest out of the Stanley Cup at the end.

I'll also send Dekeyser a really tasteful card in the hospital.

If you're gonna spear a guy in the family jewels the least you could do is buy him a lap dance at the 'Windsor Ballet'.

Agreed.  Lucic is a POS for a move like this.  But the Wings shouldn't engage the Bruins.  That's exactly what Boston is hoping for.

In the playoffs the best way for this Wings roster to deal with a rat like Marchand and dirty player like Lucic is not to respond to all to their cheapshots.

AS much as I love that brand of hockey - the Wings simply aren't built for that sort of play.

Will Lucic get suspended for that?

I hope so...Me thinks he should sit 2 games, but we'll be lucky if he gets one game...Mind you I like Lucic, but that was the epitome of a cheap shot.

EDIT - Maybe if we're lucky Kronwall will summon his inner viking, and plaster Lucic into next week...Watching him wobble back to the bench would bring a smile to my face.

#2500759 Backes on playing against Malkin and Crosby

Posted by F.Michael on 25 March 2014 - 05:36 PM

If he was a Wing, people would only complain about how he doesn't put up 30-35 goals and 70+ points a season like a "true" power forward.

Nah - we'd *****, and moan that he doesn't fight enough.

Power forward = 1 part scoring touch + 2 parts ass kicker.

#2500559 Showcasing for Trade?

Posted by F.Michael on 24 March 2014 - 08:26 PM

Redwings are all about the kids now .... Nyquist Tatar Sheahan have taken over if not for them we'd be toast

Been pushing for Callahan to be called up for a while so I can't wait to see him play , he's the type of guy who would help us in the playoffs if we get in

I wanna see Callahan join Glendening in becoming the ultimate s*** disturber duo...Some here may turn up their noses at this brand of hockey, but lets not kid ourselves - not only is it fun to watch, but more often than not it's these types of players who contribute most in the post season.

I'd rather see 'street justice', and have Neals pretty face re-arranged, but this is 2014, and not 1984.

Glendening has been fantastic and a big reason the Pens have taken some dumb penalties.

I like players who are abrasive, and can get their opponents off their game.

Jesusf****** Christ.  Who's fault is it when you blow like 2,000 two goal leads with various different lineups?  Does even a little of that come back on the coach?

Pffft...C'mon...It's the Babcock/Holland variety show...Neither takes the blame, nor accepts responsibility.
