#2241920 Flyers fans attack Rangers fans after Winter Classic

Posted by F.Michael on 06 January 2012 - 08:56 AM

The older I get, and now that I have 3 small boys - the chances of finding me at a away game are pretty slim...Maybe at a Yotes game where nearly 70% of the crowd are Red Wing fans.

Dude shouldn't have been disrespecting me, bro. Also, this is me with my *****. She just gave me head. s*** was SO cash.

I've been known in these parts to start a Habs discussion in French come playoffs (doesn't look like it'll happen this year) courtesy of Google translator

For the life of me I cannot translate the sentence in bold above; is that some form of English I am not aware of?

More pearls of wisdom from Brian "The Deflector" Burke.

Not wanting, or meaning to derail this thread, but I agree with Burke 100%.

#2241916 Open Season on Ducks

You should be shot for suggesting that that ginormous douchebag ever put on a Red Wings jersey.

The fact that he's a dip!@#$ weasel disqualifies him from Ken Holland's consideration anyway.

Chris Chelios, Ulf Sammuelsson, Wendel Clark, and Todd Bertuzzi could all fall into that "douchebag" category, and yet were once/currently are Detroit Red Wings.

Just because you dislike Perry doesn't mean Ken Holland loathes him as well...I for one (and many other LGW members) would love to have that half-shield wearin'weasel on our Red Wings.

Mule, Smith, Kindl for Getz and Parros.

I feel so dirty typing that.

This right here is a pretty realistic trade proposal.

The League has the best officiating of any sport. Just ask Bettman; he'll tell you.

Or the Pens come playoff time.

#2241566 Red Wings - Maple Leafs 24/7...

Posted by F.Michael on 04 January 2012 - 01:44 PM

My feelings? Datsyuk would win two trophies next year if this happens. The Selke, and an Emmy.

Not sure if any of you caught Babcock's comments on FSD during the Blues game on NYE about his feeling on a possible 24/7.

Basically he said he has "no say" in whether or not it happens (alluding to the fact that he probably thinks it's silly) but that he doesn't plan on being the "star of the show." Maybe referring to Torts.

Wilson on the other hand..........."Honta Yo!!!!!!!!!!!"

Babs comes across as a fairly stable/controlled guy on the bench (unlike Torts); makes ya wonder if he vents behind closed doors in the locker room?

I honestly see 2 possibilities with the Red Wings with a 24/7 series; they'll either disappoint some of us by being a relatively quiet bunch (no boisterous types, or possibly no tune on the ipod after each victory, and come across as rather subdued), or they'll surprise us with some crazy antics that none of us are aware of that goes on within the Red Wings organization.

I'm thinking if we had the 1997/1998 Cup winning rosters on 24/7 we'd have some great television!

#2241007 Rupp 1st Goal, Then Salute at WC

Posted by F.Michael on 03 January 2012 - 01:05 PM

IMO, any kind of "dance" or strange celebration outside of a fist pump or raising your arms up then hugging you teammates should be penalized in ALL sports. Score a goal, Homerun, Touchdown and dance around like a damn fool like you are bigger than the game then it's a penalty. I know they don't have penalties in baseball, but enough of the chest bumps and crazy handshakes. Enough of the endzone charades and dances and enough of the "salutes" and "discount double play's." Score, pump your fists, hug teammates, get congratulated and move on. Nothing ruins a great touchdown/goal/homerun more than the kind of stuff that goes on after. (not so much happens in hockey, but the other sports got to do something about it.)

 :hysterical: at the negs. Thanks! I think I may just do a dance!

Seems as though being modest with your accomplishments is a thing of the past.

#2239688 Stay classy Kesler

Posted by F.Michael on 29 December 2011 - 01:41 PM

 at some of the responses here...

I'm an old fart (in comparison to most members here); fighting after a big/questionable hit was rather common throughout the 80's, and 90's (especially if you were on a line with Yzerman, Gretzky, or Lemieux).

So Kesler took exception - meh no big deal.

#2236541 Mike Milbury charged with assault

Posted by F.Michael on 16 December 2011 - 03:42 PM

Definitely need more facts but...

Am I the only one who thinks "shaking" someone isn't exactly the worst crime out there?

My dad "shook" me several times as a kid (I deserved worse, probably :hehe: ) and I'm not terribly scarred by it. Again, I don't want to pass any judgement too soon but I can't help but think the parents of the kid saw it was Milbury, a guy on TV and former sports star, and thought they'd go for it.

If he did this on the ice at a game, I have to think the chances of someone filming it are pretty high, I wonder if any footage will come out?

Apparently there's video evidence, and for me to throw Milbury under the bus - I gotta see it...Until then I'm of the opinion it wasn't as bad as some are saying.

Way too many people out there today in our society of litigation who are looking to make a quick buck by sueing others.

#2231538 Wings are soft as hell.

Posted by F.Michael on 30 November 2011 - 11:55 PM

No, that's being melodramatic.

The Wings weren't a world beater by any means, but they could have put up a fight against any team in the league last post-season. They went 7 games against a team that has had their number, and swept a team they struggled with the previous year.

Hell, the tiny Canadiens went 7 against Boston and almost pulled off a series win. Boston would have most certainly beat Detroit last year, but Detroit could have won one or two games.

For the record, I think San Jose would have had the best chance to beat Boston.

No Doc - it's called an honest opinion of where our beloved Detroit Red Wings have a weakness.

No - just bloody honest.

In a few hours I'm gonna be on the road heading to the Motor City for the game.

Do you guys still meet up at the Shillelagh pub before, or after games?

#2225041 Ryan Miller's opinion on Milan Lucic

Posted by F.Michael on 13 November 2011 - 05:04 AM

What makes me scratch my head is the attitude of many goalies, and how they feel they cannot be touched - even when they're outta their crease as Miller was.

Miller is one of my favourite goalies here but f*** it, I like what Lucic did. Goalies get enough protection in the crease and around it. They don't deserve to go for a skate that far up the ice and expect to be protected as they aren't protecting the net at that point (otherwise the argument is the goalie being anywhere on the ice is considered protecting the net), they're playing the puck as any other skater. Lucic doing that, while infuriating him, lets him know that next time the puck is that far up the ice, Miller is taking a risk by going for a skate so far up the ice, and he just might think twice. I don't think goalie interference applies to that, even less do I think it's charging the goaltender. Lucic is finishing a hit on a player skating far away from his net to play the puck and not playing goal.

The reaction by Miller and Ruff is over the top.

#2221911 WWSBD?

I don't think Babcock sucks. He's proven himself in the past. However, it seems like he's had a new challenge the last couple of seasons that he hasn't had to deal with before: complacency and lack of motivation. On paper, the Wings are oozing talent. We should be scoring goals left and right. However, the team has come up flat for the last 5 games. They look tired. In the post game interviews, they look defeated. They blame bounces not going their way. Babcock needs to get this team together, tell them they are all sucking right now, and fix it. Like Electrophile said, make them do suicides until they puke. Go over plays until their eyes glaze over. Bench players. Whatever it takes. Babcock needs to figure out how to light a fire under everyone's ass. And quick.

Talking with fans, and reading through these forums, it seems like we give the team a pass way too often. If they lose, its "early in the season, calm down" or "the refs suck" or "so and so had an off night, they'll bounce back." We've been waiting for Franzen to get his crap together for how many seasons? The young guys need to start stepping up and producing. The veterans need to start playing like they're veterans. I know we're just fans, and who really cares what we think, but maybe this type of thinking has crept into the team, coaches, management, etc? They just look like they don't care anymore.

Maybe I'm just frustrated...

I gotta disagree with the 1st bold sentence.

I agree 100% with the 2nd bold sentence.

Scotty would make the players responsible for their play by benching their ass.

He wouldn't be scared to put any line combination out on the ice.

Maybe request a trade for a snarling veteran type on defense, goodbye E and/or Kindl. He loved vets

Put a real physical presence on the top lines so Z and D have room to work.

Getting everyone to buy into the system.

This is pretty much my take on Scotty Bowman as well.
