Wonder what the response would be here if in fact Hank were moved?..IMHO outside of Dats, Lids, and Jimmy - anyone can be moved.
At work today a coworker forwarded me an email he received from a friend who apparently lives next to or near Ken Holland. No idea how reliable this is, but this person claims the Wings are about to trade Zetterberg to Florida for Stephen Weiss and a 2nd round draft pick.
Even though I doubt Hank will get moved - I for one don't understand the "minus ticks".
Maltby was annoying, but I've honestly never thought of him as a dirty or cheap player. Kind of like Holmstrom. He yaps a lot and gets on people's nerves, but I don't remember him trying to end someone's season or anything like that.
Well - IMO Marchand has yet to prove to be at the same level of dirty as Matt Cooke, Dan Carcillo, or Chris Pronger - yet he's still young, and there's always that possibility.
I don't recall ever seeing Maltby drop his gloves, and "man up" for his actions (although he has fought back when in a scrum, or if he got jumped); Marchand on the other hand has answered the bell a few times in his young career.
Maltby was at his best when McCarty, or Kocur were out there with him, and as you've pointed out having a tough team behind him gives Marchand the balls to "play a few inches taller"...IMHO there's nothing wrong with that; it's a primary reason why it's not such a bad idea to have a few guys on the bench whom are willing, and able to drop the mitts...That attitude can be infectious, and it's fun as hell not only to watch your team beat them on the scoreboard, but it's also fun watching your team beat'em up as well.
Miller and Eaves block shots, kill penalties, finish checks, and play solid defense. I'm sorry that they don't destroy dudes with every check. You know who else didn't? Draper and Maltby, and everyone around here (rightly) worships them like gods for their gritty play.
Additionally, if our entire bottom six consisted of Darren McCarty type guys, we wouldf****** suck.
One could argue the same could be said if our bottom 6 were Drew Miller types.
I'm not ready to say the guy is a weasel, or a dirty player, but I think it was kind of a dirty play and honestly, I sometimes like dirty play, particularly from guys who you expect it from. I was always a big Maltby and Chelios fan, so I'd be a hypocrite if I condemned the guy for a dirty play, but he got caught and now he has to do the time.
It's guys like Marchand that keep us fans at the edge of our seat by getting his nose dirty, and mixing it up...He's not yet in the category of dirty such as Cooke/Lemieux/Pronger/Sammuelsson, but like you said he's def a Maltby type - although alot more skilled.
Because Boston has such a winning record against us? I'm tired of this tough guy garbage. Last playoff run the Wings dished out more hits than the teams we played, and San Jose was a bruising team. Yeah, Boston is tough, but tough isn't what wins. A proper balance of skills wins. I'm not denigrating Boston, they're the best team right now, but in a 7 game series I like our chances still.
EDIT: Like Mick said tonight, Boston didn't win the Cup because of their physicality. They won because Vancouver couldn't score.
It's hard to score when the puck is in your end of the ice courtesy of an aggressve forecheck that involves big/fast/physical opponents whom aren't easily intimidated.
I guarantee you that Ken Holland would not trade for him. When has Ken Holland ever signed a player of Perry's character?
I disagree with your examples, as none of them are d-bag weasels of Corey Perry magnitude.
Well it's more or less a matter of opinion...The examples I used I feel are as bad - if not worse than Perry...Chris "I would never play for Detroit" Chelios to Ulf "I go for the knees" Sammuelsson, to Wendel "I punch 1st and ask questions later" Clark to Todd "I end careers with a cheap shot" Bertuzzi.
Yeah your right - Perry is an ass when compared toi these guys
