#2189840 Does this annoy you?

Posted by F.Michael on 25 June 2011 - 09:06 PM

It's very annoying. There's a salary cap for a reason. If you send a player to the minors/overseas...you should be responsible for 50% of his salary against that years cap. Only way I can think of to solve it.

Above poster is correct about same agents/players being 'turned off' by how players are treated this way....but that seems like too small of a penalty to me.

Wish we could have a soft cap with a 'luxury tax' in the NHL....oh well.

In response to the bold - I'm pretty certain this will be pushed by the Don Fehr led NHLPA after the 2011/2012 season.

If Holland doesn't obtain a big North American boy who fights, I'll riot worse than Vancouver.

Ok - but ya gotta clean your room first.

#2188240 Hudler's Future

Yes, it gets aggravating. I used to try to reason with him, but I choose to just ignore it now.

Anyhow, how about Hudler to Edmonton for Theo Peckham? :siren:

Pfft - what the hell are you smoking?

Peckham's too rugged - too tough - stands up for his teammates - is a respectable #5/#6 Dman...We sure as hell don't need that!

#2185342 Babcock Interview + Jagr to Detroit Rumor

Posted by F.Michael on 15 June 2011 - 10:40 AM

Jagr was probably the most dominating player in the Worlds. You don't believe it until you see him play. I didn't think he would be in shape anymore, but as he said himself usually it's the loss of pure speed that makes many older players worse.

Players who succeed at an older age usually either have to find a way around it (Lidstrom with his amazing hockey sense) or just somehow maintain it (like Selanne). Jagr's game has never been about speed; he's strong, skilled and relies more on holding on to the puck and making plays that way (I always say Leino is extra lite version of him).

Anyways. He's in shape. You have to see it to believe it. That doesn't mean I want him to the Wings, but I still see him as a +50 point player.

Jagr may do well in a Euro league such as the KHL that plays 40 to 50 games per season, but how will he tolerate the grind of a 82 game reg season plus playoffs?

In all due respect - ya cannot compare the KHL, and Worlds to what players go thru that play in the NHL.

No thanks. Not at this stage of his career.

From what I've seen of Drury these past few seasons I'd agree...Not worth it.

Say what you want about Luongo, but the guy's getting no help from the offense.

Anyway, I'm picking Bruins on Wednesday.

Me too.

For once I'd like to see their home game on the road.

That is great, not even any fight back from Sedin. That's embarrassing

I know - it looks eerily familiar.

Fighting in hockey is yucky :bad:

#2183319 Aaron Rome

Posted by F.Michael on 07 June 2011 - 01:26 PM

To me thats just a late, late hit.....the puck was way up the side boards & Horton had nothing to do with the play anymore. I feel if they would have severely punished these types of hits earlier in the last few years there would be a lot fewer concussed players today.....once a guy gets rid of the puck he is out of the play & it shouldn't be open season on him.....most of Scott Stevens hits were of this nature & it should have been stopped then, instead of being praised. Now a lot of key players are getting concussions & a lot of them never return to their original selves on the ice. I like a hard hit as much as the next guy, but these Torres kinda hits have to be stopped or the game will become like UFC in nature.

2 things...

Reduce the size of both the shoulder, and elbow pads thus making them resemble what players wore in the 1970's/1980's.

Hip checking needs to make a strong comeback (although we'll most likely see a sharp increase in knee injuries).

different league, different rules - learn to evolve and play within them, simple as that.

I beg to differ - with an exception on the rules.

Playoff hockey has always been fast paced - hard hitting - intense hockey...It's that way today as it was years ago.

This is/was my concern when the whole cracking down on head shots began; not that it doesn't have it's merits, but when a good number of impartial viewers such as myself see this as a clean hit (albeit a tad late - hence the intereference pen) yet an injury had occurred - there'll be the looming chance of a suspension.

Wasn't blindsided, wasn't from behind, no charging...If an injury hadn't taken place we wwouldn't be having this discussion...The league is suspending Rome more for the injury than the hit IMO.

It's honestly pathetic that people are taken back so much by this hit. The hit was obviously late but besides it's timing it was a perfect open ice hit. There is a difference between coming from the blindside, and hitting someone head on when they're not paying attention. Should have been an interference penalty and nothing else. Rome led with the shoulder, you can''t punish someone for hitting too hard thats like suspending Datsyuk for stick handling too good. It sucks that Horton got hurt but next time he will be more aware when he is crossing the blue line.

Had this been Konstantinov on Lemieux circa 1997 - we'd all be seriously pissed if Vladdy were suspended.

#2183017 New arena news?

Posted by F.Michael on 06 June 2011 - 04:26 PM

For the love of God, more bathrooms, especially women's restrooms. Once we get a lot more of those, the stands won't look as empty as they look. Bigger concourse too, that'll help intermission traffic obviously.

How about installing a toilet in every seat?

That way you'll never have to leave the viewing area, seats will always be full of paying customers (it'll look good on tv), and never miss any of the action on ice.....Though the smell might get to some

#2182710 Jonathan Ericsson's Value?

Posted by F.Michael on 05 June 2011 - 10:25 AM

No. Holland offered him 2mil and he knows what he's doing, so clearly you're off base. Go through the NHL list of contracts and you'll see Ericsson is on par or better than a lot of guys making between 1.5 and 2.5 mil.

Ericsson just got paid 1.25mil in salary this past season and had his best statistical year of his career (thanks to Rafalski). Of course he's going to get a big (in terms of percentage of his last) raise.

I feel extremely dirty for half ass defending him. Please don't make me do it again.

No matter how ya cut it - Ericsson is nothing special, and just because other players get more doesn't mean Holland should over spend, and keep a guy who hasn't done much.

I'm not the only one here who feels Big E can move on, and test the UFA market come July 1st.

EDIT - and to add; now's a good time to see if Kindl is ready for full time employment at the NHL level...There were times when he played I thought he looked more capable than Ericsson.

#2182700 Jonathan Ericsson's Value?

Posted by F.Michael on 05 June 2011 - 09:44 AM

Big E is easily worth at least 1.5mil a year. Hell even at 2mil a season, it isn't that bad of a deal. But with that said, even if he wanted to play here for free I wouldn't take him.

Maybe in Toronto.

Maybe I'm a little off base for thinking this, but does anyone else feel the league chose not to suspend Burrows in order to create more animosity between these 2 players/teams?

Maybe the league is looking for a little "Old Time Hockey" for the remainder of this series?
