All the news lately points to him staying. Which I'm fine with. But what worries me is his stated desire to switch to one year contracts. What if we lose him next season, and no longer have Blashill in the wings?
Jimmy D needs to be put out to pasture. Mantha had a rough year but from reading about his play (haven't seen him play yet) he's not playing badly. He's just sort of average. That tends to happen with prospects one of their years. Very unusual for a prospect to be called out after one year.
I'm ready for whatever happens, I just hope it happens soon. We could be better off with a new coach and a new system. I feel Babcock misuses players and his defense-only mentality hurts us. But on the other hand, he gets the most out of these players. I wonder how much worse we would be without him, you know?
I don't much buy into the Holland vs Babcock stuff. They seem to be on the same page every year, things just don't work out.
I disagree with this. Conklin (V2.0) was a disaster in St. Louis and Holland brought him back and he was a disaster here. Then Gustavsson ended up being a horrible signing. The only good goaltending signing Holland has made recently is Joey MacDonald.
Holland even gave Gustavsson A RAISE after proving he was more useless than Magic Johnson at a blood drive for two years. Guys like Greiss, Montoya etc were available last summer for half as much, but Holland decided to overpay Glasstavsson.
Gus wasn't a horrible signing. He did exactly what we all thought he would. He plays very well (when he plays) and gets injured a lot, giving Mrazek a chance to get some experience, which paid off. I don't think anyone can seriously say Gustavsson was a disappointment. We just all knew what to expect.
And who cares how much he made? Cap hit doesn't matter much when you're not spending to the cap. It's not like we were paying Gus a fortune. We could afford it.
So Stamkos gets a pass for not scoring how many years in a row, but not Nyquist or Tatar? Zetterberg is not healthy. I'd bet on that.
Maybe, but he didn't strike me as injured. From what I've heard so far from the radio and from watching with my own eyes, Abdelkader, Glendening, Ericsson and Datsyuk were definitely injured. Zetterberg was just slow and his shots weren't very good. He was still setting people up, though.
Z isn't going anywhere but his role needs to be redefined, he's turning into a top 6/9 guy who can kill penalties, play on the pp and win some faceoffs. Reminds me so much of Yzerman in his last few years. Still can help but need to be realistic about it.
Honestly we need to re-evaluate a lot of players' roles. Helm, for instance, is not a top 6 player.
On another note, am I the only one really leery about Blashill? If Babcock is part of the problem, I'm not sure bringing in a clone is the right move. If we need an overhaul from strategy on up to players, bringing in a coach with an identical strategy isn't the way to start.
Lol. Daniels praising them for going further than anyone expected. They blew chances to close out this series. They had the upper hand for the majority. This is their fault. They played a good game, but once again our offense disappears and takes weak shots from the boards.
