There are already several places to discuss both of these things. I'm locking this.

I hate that lineup. We all know Bertuzzi is best with Datsyuk.

Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Alfredsson would be good, only because it could allow the depth to be spread out more.

Then we could have Jurco-Andersson-Tatar for our second. A decent offensive threat, all things considered.

Then a third of Tootoo-Glendening-Eaves would be a good third line. Even a servicable third under normal roster conditions for a lot of teams.

Garbage fourth of Cleary-Sheahan-Miller.

#2466158 Why the Red Wings get injured

Posted by VM1138 on 19 December 2013 - 12:47 PM

The argument about enforcers teeters on the verge of off-topic, but since it is being advanced as an argument to deter injuries I guess it's okay.  Be careful not to wander too far away from the topic of injuries, people.

With that said, let me chime in with this: Why would enforcers deter anything?  I mean, enforcers usually fight enforcers, right?  So why would someone whose career is to fight be afraid of someone fighting him later on as retribution for an injury?  I think enforcers don't have anything to do with health, but they do have something to do with the energy of a team.

#2465946 I'd like to talk about this off-season/next season

I wouldn't mind Cammalleri if Alfredsson doesn't return. But only as depth. I agree with you guys in us needing a big winger. But Cammalleri could be a good vet who can pot 20 goals for us. Not the move that puts us over the top but maybe a necessary one to keep us afloat.

And yes, if Kindl has any value he's not long for this roster. Unfortunately we're going to see fewer trades than ever this year, league-wide.

#2465217 Can't remember the last time we were this pathetic

I don't think it's Holland. It's Holland and Babs not being on the same page. Babcock wants a different team than Holland does. So it's a kind of mess, round peg square hole. I think we'd be fine if we were built 100% Babcock or 100% Holland. Instead we have a hybrid where know one is really used properly. Take Datsyuk. Best player in the league, yet he is used not for scoring but to be defensive to keep subpar linemates from costing the team. Seems like Bowman and Holland were on the same page for years and it worked.

This team doesn't know where it is going.

And few teams are ever 100% healthy for very long. Waiting for a magical time when that happens is unhelpful. They need to find a way to win and learn a killer mentality. The Wings 4 years ago knew how to close out an opponent.

It may be a loss but at least this feels like a normal, old-fashioned loss.  Not a cluster-you-know-what of embarrassment and frustrating play.  They're playing like an NHL team that might just fall short.

Tootoo for their best player. Don't let me down, Burke.

#2463470 Zetterberg placed on LTIR

Posted by VM1138 on 11 December 2013 - 03:39 PM

Nonsense.  He'll come back just in time for the team to get shellacked by the Panthers again, sustain an injury and then miss the game.  Just to make it worse.

#2463019 The Nyquist/Tatar Thread

Posted by VM1138 on 10 December 2013 - 09:43 PM

To add to the anecdote about the caller and Datsyuk, I wasn't all that impressed with Zetterberg the first couple of years. I liked him but didn't fully appreciate his skills. And Datsyuk wasn't really loved until 2007 or so. When he shed his disappearing in the playoffs reputation.

So yeah, even in their mid-20s players can surprise you. Let's add Franzen to the list.

My big bold prediction is that Nyquist will be the next captain.

Tatar-Datsyuk-Alfie could work despite size issues. Datsyuk and Alfredsson would more than compensate for any defensive lapses by Tatar, and it would score like crazy. Plus, Datsyuk and Alfressson never get pushed around, and Tatar never gives up.

While "on pace" mean nothing, is it so unrealistic to think thay both of them could hit 35 points this year?

#2462365 Weiss

Posted by VM1138 on 08 December 2013 - 11:12 AM

I've been a big Weiss booster, but I'm not sure anymore. He was brutally lazy and bad last night. I don't know what happened to him but his old compete level is just gone.

I'm really wondering what the deal is. I smell a buyout coming, compliance or not. If you can't get up to play your old team I don't know what to say.

#2461861 Howard = Average

Posted by VM1138 on 07 December 2013 - 10:07 AM

Agreed. All goalies go through a funk. Gus is winning, but so was Conklin back in what, 09? We have to remember Gus is still a backup. Backups have great streaks but we can't count on him being this good forever. Howard has a track record of success. I don't want to see him benched for stretches. They should keep alternating. It worked in 08 and 09.

His play is mind-boggling. In Florida he was a heart and soul guy, a warrior fan-favorite. I don't see any of that and I was really excited to have him here. He has got to be the biggest mystery now that Franzen is back to being the Mule we all knew and loved.

#2461304 Darren Helm Injured

Posted by VM1138 on 05 December 2013 - 03:01 PM

Well, at least now Holland signing too many players actually helps us, haha.

This is comical.  Way too many key injuries.  Right when we were getting good. We better not go on a four game losing streak now to match our four game winning streak. I'm tired of that pattern.

#2460806 Lundqvist, Rangers agree on extension.

Posted by VM1138 on 04 December 2013 - 08:56 PM

Rangers are all about being the definition of the word "overpayment"

Whenever critics say the Wings "bought" their teams in the early 2000s, I always point out that the Rangers always spent more and never went anywhere.  Money isn't everything.

That being said, this is an overpayment.  No criticism of Lundqvist, but goaltender being such an unreliable and flaky position, you have to be really desperate to give a contract like that.  Lundqvist must have had them over a barrel.  I don't think I would've given Hasek a contract like that if he were in his prime today.
