#2250366 Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?

Posted by VM1138 on 27 January 2012 - 10:56 PM

It sounds like guys like Parise might be available for relatively cheap. I imagine there are other options out there in similar situations. Teams need to unload some salary or fix unstable locker room situations. I don't see Holland parting with anyone in the top two lines, or even the third line.

I see him giving up picks (our 1sts are worthless anyway) and guys like Brunnstrom (unlikely anyone wants him), Miller, Emmerton, or some prospects not named Smith, Nyquist, Jarnkrok or Tatar. That should net us a relatively cheap 2nd liner (Parise) or some grittier playoff presences like Morrow or Moen.

I doubt we'd trade even Hudler for anyone, because the return would be relatively limited. Think about it, would you rather have a slight upgrade, or a deeper team? I think going into the playoffs you want to be as deep as you can be. So in an imaginary world Hudler for Parise wouldn't be as beneficial as a bunch of picks for Moen or a few prospects and picks for Parise because we would be that much deeper. (Not a realistic example, it's just that...an example)

#2250260 Datsyuk No 1 Pick for All Star

Posted by VM1138 on 27 January 2012 - 12:36 PM

Man, Team Chara (in a real game) would absolutely destroy Team Alfredsson.

EDIT: I'm also a fan of the idea of Gaborik and Datsyuk playing together.

#2250000 why is Emmerton instead of Mursak?

Posted by VM1138 on 26 January 2012 - 12:40 PM

This whole season I think I've only noticed Emmerton a small handful of times. The kid has shown absolutely no spark whatsoever. Nothing against him, he's not really hurting, but he's certainly not helping and I don't think he'll ever amount to much. He's playing because we've lost our depth at center.

This is garbage. It's just one game, true, but it reflects problems they've had for a few years now. Stop being so apathetic!

#2249175 Props to the DJ at the Joe

Posted by VM1138 on 25 January 2012 - 12:11 AM

I noticed he was taking requests, never noticed that before. At any rate, I don't much care for generic techno music, but it seems to be necessary for modern sport events. I love the classic rock, but I think the DJ needs to do a better job of picking good songs, not just songs that happen to have a relevant lyric.

Also, as much as I love "Don't Stop Believing" I think it should be reserved for special occasions. When the crowd started singing it in Game 6 or 7 of the San Jose series, that was special, I got chills. Hearing people sing it when the Wings are up 3-1 in a regular season game...not so special.

Also, I loved the old Detroit Rock City intro...didn't notice it during the Buffalo game, did he stop using that?

Sweet Caroline is a good way to end a win, though. Totally unrelated and not a very "sportsy" song, but it's a happy song and when the crowd starts singing it it puts a smile on my face.

I also noticed at the Buffalo game he played two Black Keys songs, both of which I immediately thought "sports anthem" when I heard them on the album...even though they're not sports songs. (Lonely Boy and Gold on the Ceiling) They didn't seem very loud when he played them, though. Gold on the Ceiling especially would be a good song to use prominently mid-game or something.

#2246809 Brad Stuart to the West Coast?

Posted by VM1138 on 18 January 2012 - 12:02 PM

We could get a lot for Stuart. I'd hate to see him leave, but if that's what he wants, he's contributed and done his part. There's nothing to criticize about wanting to go be with family. He's done everything we as fans asked of him. He'll be hard to replace, but I think it's obvious he is the highest trade value on the team right now. Package him with a role player or a pick and we could get a top 6 scorer. Then either call up Smith or trade for a mid-level defenseman. I don't much like counting on Ericsson-Kindl-Commodore going into the playoffs.

I bet Hudler told Zetterberg he was going to do that. It just seems like something Hudler would do.

...and Conks with the save! Conklin is getting his game back, I hope.

#2245194 Next Captain?

Posted by VM1138 on 13 January 2012 - 10:02 AM

The sudden anti-Zetterberg attitude on these forums is beginning to sicken me. How the guy went from untouchable to trade-worthy in the eyes of fans is beyond me. I shudder.

They've been pretty clear the past year or two that the next captain WILL be Zetterberg.

#2244278 Pavel Datsyuk is lazy and he sucks.

Jimmy Howard played a pretty crappy game, too. Posted Image

Trade them both for an enforcer.

#2244217 Losing: a reoccuring theme

Posted by VM1138 on 11 January 2012 - 12:08 AM

Just in 2008, they had some ugly games and losses where nothing energized them. I remember a game against Atlanta when we lost 5-1 and everyone was flat that game. The Wings are on pace for another 100 point season and defensively, they are better than last season.

They are going in the right direction, but you don't feel like something is missing? I think scoring has still been their achilles heel, as well as stupid defensive lapses. They've improved, but when push comes to shove, we haven't improved faster than other teams.

Being a little tired is no excuse for this. They are way too good to phone in a game against the third worst team in the league.

It's matchups like this, against vastly inferior teams, that terrify me. The Wings have a tendency of not coming out of the gate firing.

I wish Conklin would get a consecutive start, though.

But here's hoping for 7 points for Datsyuk and a hat trick for Franzen or Zetterberg.

The facts: We can't offer anything better than 28 other teams in the league. We don't have what Anaheim wants.

Isn't Olczyk a Chicago play by play guy? Who's bright idea was it to have him call a nationally televised game? He's always so biased it's ridiculous. Usually I roll my eyes at whatever they say, but their focus on the too many men call was not only irrelevant at that point, it was just in bad taste. I don't think I heard them say a positive thing about Detroit all night.
