MacDonald for starter. (Am I joking? Sarcastic? You be the judge) Sorry, I try not to get angry with players and give up on them, but Jimmy "Four Goals" Howard just isn't cutting it.

Bizarre game. The Wings seemed to play really well and forced the play when they needed to, but it seemed every time they tried to clear the puck or make a short pass it hit a stick, stopped in mid-air, or otherwise dropped to the ice after three feet to lie there and wait for a Colorado player to grab it. And it was like the Wings had never handled a puck before, getting it stuck between their skates, missing the puck completely on simple passes....yet they were otherwise passing crisply, quickly, and accurately.

Strange, strange game. Can't say I'm too disappointed, since that sort of strangeness isn't common. Only real downside (aside from losing) was Howard's dismal performance...again. Only one of those goals wasn't his fault, which is about par for the course.

#2095136 Next Sens GM...Pierre McGuire?!

Pierre Mcguire looks like a penis with glasses wearing a suit.

And judging from his creepy on-screen performances, you don't want to know where that Human Penis (or Henis) has been.

Way to go, Ken Daniels! My favorite sportscaster alongside Mickey Redmond. Best in the game!

I don't see what the team needs, really. I know there are people who just need an enforcer but honestly the Wings do fine in the playoffs without one. They haven't been truly intimidated out of a game in years.

How many did Ozzie let in today?

And if we lost the game it would be because Ozzie let in a weak one. I fail to see what puts Ozzie over Howard right now when they both are letting in 3 goals against in their own way.

Ozzie let in one soft goal. Howard lets in three a game, that was my point. THen there are additional goals that aren't their fault.

Therefore we have a 5-3 win with Ozzie instead of a 5-3 loss with Howard.

#2091183 First 6 All-Stars Named

Perfect ASG format:

Have the players, GMs, Coaches, sports writers etc. vote for players with the stipulation that they can't be on their team.

Release the list of All-Stars.

Don't hold a game.

Ozzie 3 goals on 21 shots.

Back to normal form.

Unfair. The first two goals weren't anything he could do about. At least give him credit for staying up whereas Howard would be crawling on the ice as low as he could possibly get as soon as he saw the puck. Ozzie stays big in net. The third goal I'll grant you was crappy, but I'd rather deal with 1 crappy goal a game over Howard's 3 a game.

Go Ozzie!

I realize that I'm biased, being a huge Ozzie fan, but I am also strong in my feelings that Howard is the Goalie of the Future for this team.

Still, I feel it is in the best interest of both the goalies and the team that both start as much as possible (edge to Howard) so that Howard is fresh for the playoffs and Ozzie is ready in case of the unthinkable.

Go Wings!!!!!

Ozzie with the double hat trick and a Gordie Howe to boot!

Exactly, so many people around here think it has to be either or. People arguing for more starts for Ozzie aren't arguing for Howard to be dumped or traded, just that he needs some time to clear his head while we see if Ozzie can continue to play big for us.

#2090582 Howard, Stuart, Eaves possible Tuesday against the Oil

Posted by VM1138 on 04 January 2011 - 05:08 PM

It's not all about the stats. I don't see why Howard's defenders have to attack Ozzie to build themselves up. The key to Ozzie's performances is that he's making the huge, key saves when necessary. When was the last time we heard "Huge save by Howard!" when it was ACTUALLY a big save and not just an accident.

Ozzie is giving this team a chance to win, Howard has stopped doing that.

No Tatar makes me sad. I'd almost rather him stay up than Mursak, even though Mursak has been fine while he's been up.

Even Luongo isn't "elite" anymore. The guy used to be, but he's not very "clutch." He's certainly great but like Ken and Mick said the other night, there just aren't any truly dominant goalies in the league.

Do Miller, Lundqvist and Luongo really stack up when compared to Hasek, Roy and Brodeur (in his hey-day)? No.

Howard is slumping. It's a fact. That is not to say he's a terrible goalie. His defenders are just as bad as his ultra-attackers in this case. You don't keep playing a goalie who can't get his act together when you have a perfectly good goalie waiting in the wings. Howard needs a 2-3 game stretch off so he can spend some time with the goalie coach and retool. Then, when he comes back, let the starting position get decided naturally. I don't see what is so shocking and upsetting about this to so many people.

I don't understand what Babcock is doing. I've always supported him, but his handling of the goalie situation last year and this year is just mind boggling. Howard is not playing well. Whether or not you blame him for losses, it's just a fact. Ozzie, on the flip side, is playing very, very well. Why NOT give him a chance? Howard, for the moment, has played himself OUT of a starting position, yet Babcock refuses to go to Ozzie who we know is capable of carrying the load if need be. It's almost like he forgets we have a 400-win goalie as our backup.

I understand he doesn't want to shake Howard's confidence, but that boat sailed a while ago. Howard has gotten into terrible habits and needs to retool his game (namely, not dropping to the ice every time the opponent comes into the zone), which he can't do if he's starting every game.

If I were Ozzie I'd be even more pissed than last year. Last year Ozzie deserved to not play, and he didn't. This year he deserves to play, and he's not.

Wake up Babcock!

It comes down to a simple equation. Which of the goalies has been playing better this past month? Ozzie, by a mile. Let's spare ourselves the endless debate over who should is better overall. Howard has gotten into bad habits and needs a break to get rid of them. I'm tired of seeing him so low on the ice every single time. It seems like he's always getting scored on high or because he immediately goes to the ground and can't get up and over for the rebound.

Ozzie gives the team a chance to win. At the very least do a 60-40 rotation, if not a 50-50 for now.

No predictions for the future, but for right now, we need Ozzie. The team didn't play to their full potential but they played well enough to win. Considering that Howard was clearly the weak link, especially after Ozzie immediately made huge saves coming in.

EDIT: On the bright side, the Wings should dominate January with a good schedule. Frankly I don't care if Vancouver takes 1st for now, there's still half a season left and in the end 1st place doesn't really matter anyway. But I'm tired of seeing mindfly talk like this means we're suddenly out of the playoffs because a team TIED us for 1st.

Except for Miller, I hope the Wings never break the bank on an "elite" goalie. They are simply too unpredictable. I like the way they do things, finding two capable goalies. I just wish Ozzie would get more starts, just because we need to have both these guys ready at a moment's notice.
