#2040483 Could Eaves be put on waivers?

Posted by VM1138 on 04 October 2010 - 08:52 PM

It's obviously going to be Maltby put on waivers. Odds are no one will pick him up. So he's extremely low risk. Why lose one when you can lose none?

Sometimes I think athletes live in a fantasy land where reality has no meaning.

#2038475 Lilja gets training camp invitation to Sharks

Glad he's doing well, wish he could've stayed a Wing but it just wasn't in the cards.

#2035650 Pre-Season 9/22 GDT: Red Wings at Pittsburgh Penguins

Posted by VM1138 on 22 September 2010 - 08:27 PM

Couple things:

1) It's pre-season. Nobody cares. Yeah, Ozzie should technically be trying to prove himself but this really isn't an indicator of the rest of the season. Look at the team in front of him and the team they're playing against. Malkin and Crosby were both playing and neither Datsyuk or Zetterberg played.

2) I think the WIngs went something like 1-9 in 2002 and then went on to one of the most amazing seasons.

So don't everybody start attacking Ozzie. I can sense some of you have your fingers hovering on the "jump off bandwagon" button already.

#2030706 Kozlov signs in KHL...

That sucks. I hate it when NHL caliber players can't find a spot in the NHL.

Thanks for the memories, Kozzie.

#2027229 Hawks sign Fernando Pisani, $500k

Posted by VM1138 on 18 August 2010 - 07:01 PM

I hate it when people talk about a signing by pointing out how a player played 4 or 5 seasons ago. Seriously? He may very well be good, I don't know. But when I hear "if so and so plays the way they did back in '06 or '07 (or even '03 I've heard), it's a good signing" that indicates that player has done nothing since then.

#2027228 Lilja: Red Wings only team to offer contract

Posted by VM1138 on 18 August 2010 - 06:59 PM

Lidstrom-Rafalski
Kronwall-Stuart
Ericsson-Kindl/Salei/Lilja?

This might be too many. I'd like to have Lilja back, buck Salei has already replaced his role for the most part, or is intended to. Before we signed Salei I'd be all for Lilja, but unless he wants to be a call-up, he'd have to get in line. Kindl, who is probably a bust, still needs to be given a chance. I doubt Lilja is willing to got o the AHL when he could go to the KHL.

Sorry, Lilja, you really proved your worth and overcame your past as an unreliable defenseman to be an integral part of this team. But you sat on the pot a bit too long and you've been replaced. No room at the inn, so to speak.

#2025224 Wings' Goaltending Situation

Posted by VM1138 on 11 August 2010 - 04:30 PM

Really? How about that Game 3 against San Jose? Wings in control and then Howard gives up the weakest goal I can remember from the side boards, from the end line, and the Wings lose the game. The entire series was lost on that one goal. If he makes that "save" the Wings win game 3 and who knows where it goes from there. Once that goal slipped over the line the Wings were out of the playoffs.

God forbid a goalie have a subpar game in a playoff run? Unheard of!

#2024661 Wings sign Ruslan Salei

Posted by VM1138 on 09 August 2010 - 09:44 PM

He missed 56 games last year with a back injury. Also he's 36 years old.

I wouldn't call him a soft player, because he is physical, but he never fights and is coming off a serious injury.

As a player, I'd be more intimidated by a big hitter than a fighter. I could always choose not to fight. It's much harder to avoid getting leveled. Thus, a hitter > fighter in my eyes.

#2024498 Wings sign Ruslan Salei

Posted by VM1138 on 09 August 2010 - 03:54 PM

Don't see why people are upset. He's dirt cheap, he's mean, he can hit. He's a better Lilja and cheaper. He could complement Ericsson really well and help his development along. And he's probably eager to play for a quality team. What is the issue here?

#2021705 Bold Predicitions for the 2010-2011 Season

Wings win the Cup.

Everyone else cries.

#2021680 It's Official: Turco to Hawks

Posted by VM1138 on 02 August 2010 - 07:15 PM

Turco really is better than Niemi. The only plus for Detroit is that Turco has nightmares about winged wheels. But this was a really good solution to their goaltending problem.

#2018919 Attn Cap Geeks...give me a scenario...

Posted by VM1138 on 24 July 2010 - 10:25 PM

LA is on the way up. No way he bolts that organization, plus they'll be able to throw basically whatever he wants at him. Nobody will get Doughty til later in his career. The only way we can get a young, dominating defenseman is to hope one gets drafted by a crappy team like Atlanta and is willing to leave. And even then we'd have to compete with everyone else.

So...best bet? Hope Kindl, Ericsson, or someone else comes out and magically dominates.

#2018338 Hawks trade Reasoner to Panthers for Jeff Taffe

Posted by VM1138 on 23 July 2010 - 12:01 AM

Why is that funny? The wings struggled to finish off the Coyotes and then got creamed by San Jose, and they have done exactly what with their roster that is going to put them over the top? Hudler? lol

Top 6- Franzen, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Hudler, Fillpula, Cleary

Top 6- Kane, Toews, Sharp, Bolland, Hossa, Brouwer

Edge= Chicago- 4 of those guys are still in their early 20's

Top 4- Lidstrom, Kronwall, Rafalski, Stuart (Last years whipping boy)

Top 4- Keith, Seabrook, Campbell, Hjalmarsson

Edge = Hawks D is much younger, skilled and faster, but the Wings, barely, only because Lidstrom is still better then all of them combined.

Goalie- Niemi
Goalie- Howard

Edge= Niemi. Stanley Cup.

As far as depth, well, to start, any team that has Todd Bertuzzi is only going to go so far, you can make up your mind as to who is better amongst the rest, Ritola, Dowell, Skille, Meech, Lalonde, Miller, Eaves, Kindl, Kopecky, Stalberg etc.

This post is so full of stupid. And I'm not a big insult-people-over-the-Internet person.

The Wings struggled against Phoenix, a tough, up-start, unpredictable team. They did NOT get creamed by the Sharks. They dominated more than half of the series but got hosed on poorly timed 5 on 3s.

And as for the Top 6, Kane, Toews, and Hossa surely is formidable. But so is Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen. I say the Wings have the edge but that's debatable. They struggled because of the team's injuries all year long.

And Niemi was very mediocre. Most people who watched the playoffs remarked that in this case the bad goalies went all the way. It was a crazy fluke, but Niemi was no all-star caliber player. Now, Howard hasn't proven anything either, so neither has an edge here. So Niemi has a Cup, it's not like he was the best player for the whole playoffs. I'd be willing to bet Niemi is a one-hit wonder like so many goalies have been lately.

And again, I'm not sure why saying a bunch of Chicago payers are in their low twenties says anything about their talent now.

#2017809 NHL's Most Unbreakable Records

Posted by VM1138 on 21 July 2010 - 06:39 PM

A lot of Gretzky's records that are not listed there are pretty unreal. 50 goals in 39 games, 92 goals in a season, 215pts in a season, 1,963 career assists, 163 assists in a season.

I don't think Gretzky's are untouchable, to be honest. Right now, they're astounding. But the game evolves so quickly. I'd say his totals could be broken within the next 15 or 20 years.
