NHL.com says this is the first time since 97 the Wings have started 4-0. That can't be true, can it? I seem to remember them going 7-0 or something a few years back and making news. Maybe my memory is faulty and they were 7-1 or something.
At any rate, I think this article is wrong about the "championship feeling." The Wings and their fans have won too much and too often to think 4-0 to start means much of anything except things are going really well right now.
I have a feeling the Southeast owners might not like this plan that much. Not to mention it doesn't make any damn sense other than getting us in the Eastern time zone. Unless, like people mentioned, Florida will be gone season after next and they're just looking for a temporary fix until there can be a big re-alignment.
I'd hate that, though. Attendance at the Joe would drop. Nobody wants to see games against Southeast teams. The team would get soft cruising to an easy division title, probably with record breaking ease. And then come playoffs they won't be in killer mode.
This team has struggled with that killer edge the past two seasons, and that won't get any better playing in the southeast. For the benefit of keeping the team in condition to compete, the team better either stay in the Central or move into the Northeast.
People are seriously giving Toews a hard time over that? He glided into him, probably intending to give him a gentle bump. It clearly wasn't meant to hurt him, or even knock him down. It was an accident. It's too frequent that people try to crucify people for simple clumsy mistakes.
This is like someone asking you which of your children is your favorite. Honestly, I'd have to pick Pavs based on his level of play and the fact that he will have a longer career than Zetterberg. It's hard to fault Zetterberg for anything, he's still one of the best players in the league, and probably the best shut-down forward. And he still puts up points, but Datsyuk has wooed us with his dazzling stick-handling.
Yeah, because with Lidstrom retiring after this season the Wings are going to be in a big hurry to get rid of Kronwall. This isn't some obscure thing that only team fans would know, sports writers should know this.
Reasonable salary, really. He probably does just as much work as any athlete, constant meetings, planning, public affairs, travel, etc. I'm pretty sure Bettman probably lives his job and puts in as much time and a lot of travel as the athletes do.
Whatever our feelings of Bettman, the fact is he has overseen the rebuilding of the sport into a much more marketable, and arguably more popular version nationally. At least he did something (as much as I hate to admit it) to earn the raise, unlike some of our other corporate CEOs who profit while their companies implode.
And this will probably be the one and only time you see me defend Bettman.
the problem with this logo is it is just way too "vectory" looking for me. even though it is simple there are so many tiny lines and strokes that it doesn't make for a very good logo, imo.
I think it's really cool. Totally unlike any other logo in the league. I'm surprised so many people seem to hate it. They didn't do some crazy design where you can't even tell what it is. They didn't use obnoxious coloring, and they didn't make it cartoony. What more do people want? It's a logo that can be taken seriously and that's all you need.
