Losers always hide behind the bad, mean referees ... typical.

Here, have a tissue!

#2429382 Smith files for arbitration

The good thing about him filing, is it precludes teams from going after him with an offer sheet.

He's only played for 1/2 a season in the NHL and only 13 games in 2011-2012.

It's just that, at times, he didn't play those games very well.

I like his upside ... he should be very good, in time.

#2429235 Holland on SiriusXM w/ audio link

Dan Cleary was 2nd only to Zetterberg in playoff points.  So Cleary is the 2nd best player on the team?  Cleary was the 2nd most important player this postseason?  Cleary was better than Datsyuk in the playoffs?

It would be hard for me to believe that you don't understand the concept of small sample size.

The playoffs was 14 games. Links and tables have been post showing no discernible difference in size, hitting or fighting in the East and West.

Years of stats is a trend, 14 games is dumb luck ...

Whatever, because stats are always telling the whole story...

I'm sorry, but if the stats don't tell the "story", what does?

This is beginning to enter the bizzaro world class of arguments.

#2428288 Free Agent Signings

and we do nothing signing some 40 year old and some other guy I have never heard of that's the wings for you

You're going to have to promise yourself to one day watching an NHL game.

#2428089 Wings Attempting to Re-sign Cleary

Posted by stillwater on 06 July 2013 - 03:27 PM

He's a warrior. Teams wanted him for a reason. He brings alot to the table.
He gets under the opposing team's skin.
He will protect his teammates
He sacrifices his body for the team
Great leader
Heart of a champion.

All attributes that most superstars lack.

What you say is true.

That being said, I don't hate this as much as say, The Eagles.

I don't think it's terrible, but it's a head scratcher.

#2428025 Parros signs with Montreal

Posted by stillwater on 06 July 2013 - 12:39 PM

Yeah, with the combined 1-goal and 3-assists in 47 career playoff games, those are clearly the guys you want in.

Add the great Colton Orr and it's still 4 points in 66 games.

Brian McGrattan ... never played in playoffs.

John Scott, 4 playoff games, no points.

I guess it's pussified to want to win games more than win fights.

#2428017 Parros signs with Montreal

Parros and Prust on the same team? Great move.

Yeah, they've already got 2 guys to sit in the press box come playoff time.

#2427718 Brunner Contract Talks

If it's not about money, he'd already be signed.

#2427334 is anyone happy right now?

Posted by stillwater on 05 July 2013 - 03:11 PM

I think the OP was stuck in the mindset that anything outside of a tremendous trade would make this team worse as it's a theory he had brought up in other threads and now it's an effort to gain further justification even though this team improved today. Face the facts that Filppula wanted a contract based off of the one good season he did have even though he proved the following year that he could not remain consistent and was not any kind of force in the playoffs. It was an intelligent decision to let him walk which is a positive.

We'll let this upcoming season speak for itself, we made the playoffs by winning the final regular season game this year, so if we miss playoffs this upcoming season then sure, the moves today damaged this team. When we do make the playoffs though, which we will, maybe a choice few that post here can step back a bit and realize maybe, just maybe, Kenny Holland knows what he's doing and made the right decisions today.

So to answer the question, yeah i'm pretty content with what went down today. Losing Brunner hurts, losing Flip not so much, but gaining Alf and Weiss is definitely a positive in my opinion. And the offseason isn't over yet either who knows what else is in store.

Thanks for the sound reasoning amid all of the insanity.

#2427075 Wings sign Stephen Weiss, 5-years, $24.5m

Posted by stillwater on 05 July 2013 - 01:42 PM

its like rob brown getting 137 points with mario lemieux .... doesnt make you a great player,

115, but who worries about facts, right. Contrarian overreaction is the better way to go.

Yeah no doubt. It's always the team with the most fighters that win the Stanley Cup.

#2425913 Seguin, Eriksson swapped in 7-player deal between Bruins and Stars

More than anything I think Chiarelli is/was trying to send Seguin a message of sorts.

Consider the message sent.
