#2219127 Assistant Captain - Tomas Kopecky

Posted by mmamolo on 28 October 2011 - 10:20 AM

I know most people on this forum like to rip on Kopecky and yes his contract is well overpaid but he's certainly not a terrible hockey player. I don't get the hatred for the guy.

#2215211 WTF is Babs thinking?!?!

Posted by Crymson on 14 October 2011 - 09:15 PM

OMG WE'RE LOSING SO MANY GAMES! WHY HAS HE TAKEN SO LONG TO ADJUST?!!!

#2215046 Abdelkader pounds Lapierre

Posted by newfy on 14 October 2011 - 09:53 AM

Abdelkader on the Lapierre fight: "He asked me to go and I said yes. It was good to give our team a spark, especially after being off."

The team was playing like s***, and he realized it and went out there to spark them. Needless to say it worked and the difference was noticeable, anyone who wants to say fighting has no effect whatsoever on a game is clueless.

I think Abdelkader has really cemented himself as a solid middleweight his last 3 fights or so and has looked feistier this year than he did last year. When hes on the wings with Bert backing him up hes a real bruiser.

Look forward to a lot more of this from him and Bert, that third line has been sick

Like I said, get off your podium already, and just appreciate the damn fight. Also, I have never said that fights don't spark a team. I have simply said it isn't as big of a factor as you would like to make it appear. You are notorious for pegging anyone who doesn't see fighting the way you do as an "anti fighter". Just pump the brakes.

Last ngihts game is a textbook example of how it can be a pretty damn big factor.

I'm notorious for thinking fighting is more than just a side show for goons and anyone who thinks that I will call an anti fighter til the day I die because they dont realize the impact it can have on a game and team.

#2200651 The Real Osgood Question

Posted by CaliWingsNut on 23 July 2011 - 08:20 PM

You do realize the Jennings now is essentially what the Vezina was in Sawchuk's day, right? From 1946-1981, the Vezina was given to the starting goalie of the team with the fewest goals against- sounds a lot like the Jennings.

Umm... no I didn't. That's because you're wrong.
Hasek/Osgood won the Jennings in 07-08 and Brodeur won the Vezina. Thomas won the Vezina this season, while Luongo / Schneider won the Jennings. The Jennings is an award that wasn't in existence during Sawchuk's time, meanwhile the Vezina is STILL awarded.

#2199415 Why the Detroit Red Wings are headed for a fall

Posted by SouthernWingsFan on 19 July 2011 - 12:18 PM

The Detroit Red Wings aren't really on a decline.

Other teams have just caught up, partially with a salary cap in place to help out and how standings wins/losses/ties etc. are determined. Which I'm fine with overall, I like the competition.

Not getting into the ZOMG ESPN schtick as that is beyond old and outdated in here, sorry.

And pretty much in agreement with #2 of hooon.

#2199507 Chris Osgood announces retirement

Posted by JasonNewEra on 19 July 2011 - 02:16 PM

Wow the amount of cynicism in the Wings fan base is amazing. At the beginning of this thread, almost everybody was bashing him for coming back. Now that he's retiring its all, "Amazing career! Thanks for everything!" No wonder goalies have it rough here. Jeez.

Well, I have always liked Ozzie and was upset when he was let go. Glad to see he went out as one of the top 10 goalies of all time! HHOF is where he belongs and to be honest... I think the #30 belongs up next to #19. He has been a corner stone in 3 of 4 cups, and almost got us another in '09. As a Wing he has outdone almost every goaltender that has came and gone. I can't wait to see what he does next and will miss him dearly.

Congrats on an outstanding career Ozzie. :siren: :siren: :siren:

nothing i posted is ban-worthy. calling me a dickhead might be, though.

You deserved every bit of your response.

It may have been time for to move on, pretty much everybody here gets that. It's all about the delivery though. And your delivery was awful, bascially like a "See ya wouldn't want to be ya" response disrespecting a guy who accomplished so much here and accomplished so much while getting ragged on by his own fanbase, regardless of whether you like him or not. So you should not be shocked one bit at some of the negative responses you got back.

Not that hard to understand. Think about it for a bit.

Thank you for everything Chris... You were one of my fav's growing up.

He was great in the playoffs. He couldn't stop a beachball in the regular season.

Yeah, and went 26-9.

What a sieve.

#2199198 Chris Osgood announces retirement

Posted by Doc Holliday on 19 July 2011 - 12:25 AM

Are you sure you're remembering properly? Osgood's sv% was .890; he was indeed a sieve. He won so many games because the Wings could outscore almost any team on a nightly basis. The #2 offensive team in the west scored 31 less goals, and the #2 offensive team overall scored 21 less.

All I'm saying is he got the wins and the team wasn't any worse for his "poor play" which was primarily mid season.

#2195976 Forward lines next season?

Posted by 13dangledangle on 03 July 2011 - 10:12 PM

id try something like this

Filppula - Datsyuk -Holmstrom

Hudler- Zetterberg - Franzen

Cleary - Helm - Bertuzzi

Eaves - Abs - Mursak

Filppula - Datsyuk -Holmstrom

Hudler- Zetterberg - Franzen

Cleary - Abs - Bertuzzi

Eaves - Helm-Mursak

I love the combos. I just think that Abby would do great with Clears and Bert, they are all cut from the same cloth so to speak. That leaves Helm on four, which is almost my favorite line on the team. The "Wheels" line as I will call it of Eaves, Helm and Mursak. These guys will leave almost any line one thru four spinning round watching them fly away. I am really digging this team right now, and I have a feeling it's a best for last sort of thing...we shall see.

#2196012 Wings offered Jovanovski 2 years, $5 million

Posted by hooon on 03 July 2011 - 11:16 PM

Yeah definitely did not want Jovo, thanks Florida.

Then again, I'd take him at 2.5 over Ericsson at 3.25 any day of the week.

#2195876 Red Wings trying to move Jiri Hudler

Posted by eva unit zero on 03 July 2011 - 05:01 PM

Other teams push him off the puck and Babcock sat Jiri a few times for his lack of effort if I remember correctly.

Dan Cleary works hard for his size, as did Draper and neither are as much as a "pushover" as your boy Hudler.

Huds was scratched for lack of production. Not for lack of effort.

#2194895 RFA/UFA Signings

Posted by ShanahanMan on 01 July 2011 - 11:04 PM

Anyone think there might be a reason why none of the legit contenders were willing to sign Ehrhoff, Wiz or Kaberle to big contracts?\

Wiz doesn't have the body of work to justify a 6 year 5.5 million dollar cap hit on a real team. I wanted the Wings to sign him but not for a deal like that.

I'm glad Holland isn't the kind of dumbass GM who makes a signing in the summer just so he can have a big, exciting press conference to make all the fans happy. If there isn't a piece that fits the Wings in terms of the team AND the salary structure the smart move is to look for other options.

I just checked the calendar and it's not October. I also checked NHL.com to see where the Wings were in the 2011-2012 standings... looks like we're fine there as well. Let's not flip out just yet.

You're right....he's just the kind of dumbass that signs a 5th/6th defenseman for over 3 mil a year.
