I'll take Kubina if Yzerman includes Malone in the deal as well. Kubina and Malone for kindl, emmerton, and a low pick. Tampa Bay gets some young talent to work with, clean up some cap space, and we get veteran leadership and grit to help us in the playoffs. I think it's a fair deal for both sides
I agree with you that there should not be expansion, but do you honestly believe that Saskatoon can support an NHL team? Saskatoon and Regina combined don't have .5 million people (I am taking the city stats). They could likely fill an NHL arena, but the corporate support wouldn't be enough.
Atlanta has a decent size population and look how that turned out. Some places just aren't hockey markets and the league has to realize that. You can't grow flowers in a field of s***.
Remember the Wings February in 2008? It gets pointed out like 10,000 times here on LGW, so I thought I'd do it as well. Granted, we were in better shape in the standings, but I expect them to make the playoffs anyway.
They'll make a move at the deadline and get better somehow.
No one in the West wants to play this team in the first round. We could beat them, but it still wouldn't be preferable.
In this day and age, it's impressive for any team to win 20 in a row at home. And we have a chance to add to it.
However, I think it's fair to point out that the '76 Flyers played before there were overtimes, let alone shootouts. They won 20 in a row at home in "regulation". Of course I'll get negged for this post, but I like hockey history and think it's important to point that out. Same thing with Brodeur breaking Parent's wins in a season record. The shootout has put a different spin on records.
Lastly, I've never been a big believer in needing home ice, but this year it might be more important than ever before. The Wings are unbeatable at home but very average on the road. They need to keep rolling and secure first in the West.
