#2265732 07/08 Wings VS 11/12 Wings

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 02 March 2012 - 03:16 PM

Ah, so it's the usual fare: defensive pessimism. If the Wings lose, you've protected yourself from most of the disappointment by predicting failure all along. If they win, you get to be happy. That's cute.

Posts like these are why so many people here don't like you.

I've always hated Bobby Clarke, mostly because of "The Slash"

I realize the competition was heated and was the most important series in hockey history, but that was plain bulls***. If I played on team Russia, I would have pulled a Marty McSorley on him in retaliation.

Depends on who the President is at the time. :hehe:

Honestly, it doesn't matter.

#2265178 Justin Abdelkader: A fighter's courage, but no fighter's skill

Yep, we've been hearing "heavy winger" and "someone to keep the flies off" for years now.

esteef

I never did hear what the "Moen" asking price was?

I just want a big tough fourth liner Kenny, is that so much to ask for?

And the city of Detroit is tired of watching their fighters get their asses kicked. That's not what the town stands for.

It is pretty sad that he has to take it on the chin, because Holland doesn't dress anyone else who's willing to do it consistently. I hope he doesn't get a concussion from trying to "fire his team up"

#2264986 2/28 GDT : Red Wings 5 at Blue Jackets 2

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 28 February 2012 - 09:35 PM

all these things that are "no big deal" now will come back to bite them in the playoffs.

you know, like...hudler and bertuzzi being two of the worst top-6 forwards in the league? everyone cool with that?

that's no problem when you beat the worst team in the league that just gave away half of the decent players they had.

but when the wings are going out in round 2 yet again? well, at least we know what to expect.

Huh?

In 2010, the refs were entirely to blame, and last year was a total fluke. Everyone knows we actually beat San Jose in back to back years. That's what I've learned from posting on LGW at least.

Why can't Ilitch use his mob connections to bypass all this California law s***?

I don't see how having extra cap space would have made trading roster players, draft picks or Brendan Smith more palatable at the trade deadline. Having a bit more cap space--not $3.25m, because Holland would certainly have signed another defenseman if not Ericsson--would not have made a whit of difference in Holland's unwillingness to pay the exorbitant prices being asked. Overpaying Ericsson by $1.5m does not, by any stretch of the imagination, equate to mortgaging part of the future for a run at the Stanley Cup.

So no, your question made no sense whatsoever.

I don't think Holland needed to go after any other D-man if he didn't re-sign Ericsson. We brought in White to replace Rafalski, and added Commodore. Kindl was of course the man promoted, and we had Smith in the minors. We could have let Ericsson walk and been just fine for the long run, with cap space to boot if we weren't.

And here's one more for you. He overpayed for Quincey as well. Since when was a 3rd pairing defenseman worth a first round pick? So Holland shouldn't be hypocritical about not overpaying someone. He's done it over the last six months with Quincey and Ericsson. And if that's what the current market is, then it's not overpayment anymore, but the current trend. Heck, everyone seems to be overpaying. Except for Yzerman. He fleeced a good depth defensman from us for a 7th round pick.

If this is a bonafide question, it's one of the least intelligent you've ever asked. I'll answer it regardless: paying Ericsson that salary did not necessitate giving up roster players, prospects or draft picks.

But it necessitated 3.5 million in cap space, which could have been useful in itself. We could have used that extra cap space and then be more willing to overpay at the deadline. And throughout the season, we could have easily played Smith and Kindl on the bottom pairing, plus had guys like Commodore and now Quincey. So yeah, we didn't give up prospects or picks for Ericsson, but did give up hard cash. I figured someone with your "intelligence" could see that, instead of giving some wise ass answer.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but does anyone know what happened with Moen? What was the asking price for him?

How come Holland was willing to overpay for that oaf Ericsson, but wasn't willing to overpay for someone at the deadline?

Vancouver really made a statement today. They're an awful well-rounded team now.

Not really.

The only move they made that I liked was Kassian. And that's a long-term move. He's not going to make or break their team this season. Their roster for the playoffs was already set.

So Vancouver got Kassian so they could matchup better with Boston.

Apparently, the SCF is already set.

No need to listen to the Holland interview as it will be an old speech pulled out and used again: "won't overpay and really, Quincey and Smith are our additions".

Pul-leeze! Every year we see this. Time with Lidstrom is running out, and this team is NOT built for 4 rounds. For Christ sakes, look at the injuries starting to accumulate while the on-ice results start going south. No one thinks a first was worth Gaustead but doing nothing???

I wish we kept Yzerman around and parted ways with Holland.

Holland says no other moves for Detroit

You mean we actually made moves?

Oh, the one where we traded Commodore for s***. I'm sorry, I forgot.
