#2304042 Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 30 May 2012 - 07:45 PM

Alas, if only I could look half as good at 42...maybe its because I am not super human?

That sure would be a toss up! When Yzerman was scoring 60 goals and getting MVP votes, he sure seemed unstoppable...like I said, great company! In their primes, all four were HOF's in the making!

Lidstrom is the second best defenseman ever behind Orr. No way you can honestly say Yzerman is a top 5 all time forward.

Also, Lidstrom's longevity puts him above Yzerman. Stevie was a solid player in his late 30's, but injuries eventually took their toll. Lidstrom was an All-Star caliber player all the way to the end. I mean, the guy won all his Norris trophies after age 30!

I have mixed emotions of both sadness and anger.

Sad to see who in my mind is the greatest defenseman in NHL history, someone who I grew up watching, retire.

Angry to see him go out the way he did. Holland brought him back, just to stand pat and not improve the team around whatsoever around him. In exchange, we get just about shut out in the first round. He deserved a better way to go out......

He deserved a better fate.

For that, Holland deserves......

#2304028 Thank you #5

Like I said in another thread, he's the best player of my generation.

I never got to watch Gretzky or Lemieux in their primes and it's doubtful whether I'll ever see anyone as good as Lidstrom.

Haven't been on LGW all day.

Not surprised that he's retiring, but am surprised that he picked this day to do it, with the Cup Finals kicking off and all.

In any case, it sucks that he's gone. He could have still played several years at a good level. It's a shame Holland did s*** to improve this team last season and that his final year ended in a first round playoff exit.

He's the best hockey player I ever got to see in his prime and the best I ever will see.

I bet they say this stuff on every team's forum.

That's what happens when you're angry and have a keyboard in front of you at the same time.

#2303403 Hasek wants to play in the NHL again

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 26 May 2012 - 07:22 PM

This may be a bit extreme but if Holland signs Hasek as a Back-up or any other roster spot on this team I'll officialy call for Holland's Head on a Platter for examination.

Many people asked for Holland's head a month ago, when this team was sent fishing after 5 games.

A Hasek signing would be a pretty extreme act.

Since when did this Hey! You suck! chant catch on? I don't remember hearing it before these playoffs. So tacky and lame.

From the great city of Trashville, TN.

f*** the Devils.

Of all the Eastern teams to win it besides Pittsburgh I don't want Marty and co. winning another cup. Brodeur's first Cup still stings me to this day. Sorry folks.

I agree.

Fatso and his team spoiled a dream final for the league. Ref should have blown the whistle there and said "intent to blow".

#2303212 If you could pick any 23 players in the NHL to start a franchise with

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 25 May 2012 - 02:15 PM

MacIntyre - Crosby - Godard
Fritz - Konopka - Parros
Gillies - Haley - Orr
Hordichuk - Westgarth - Ivanans

Lidstrom - Erskine
Brookbank - Carkner
Murray - Scott

Quick
Emery

Didn't include the salary cap numbers (oops!) but I'm pretty sure this will pass the cap.

Some people don't know when to quit.

#2303101 Who's going to make it big if anyone?

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 24 May 2012 - 09:17 PM

When you say "elite", I think of star players, as in Datsyuk or Zetterberg.

Based on that, the safe answer is none.

#2302580 What's the point of the crease?

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 22 May 2012 - 09:54 AM

i would be more then lost without my crease. taking a crease away would almost be like taking the goalies stick away. as you move as a goalie your crease is kind of like your map where you always have a sense as to where you are relative to the net, by where your crease is under you. you would have to take it out in youth hockey and wait to enforce it in the nhl once all the old timers who were accustomed to the crease are gone. to just take howards crease away tomorrow would throw his entire game off, i promise.

Then the league should take the crease away in order to increase goal scoring.

It'll offset all that giant equipment goalies wear nowadays. Seems only fair since goalies are better trained now than they've ever been in the past. They have all the advantages right now.

Don't the dogs realize that everyone wants to see a New York/L.A. final?

#2302226 LA Kings as a model?

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 19 May 2012 - 02:45 PM

I can't disagree more with the posters saying that Abby is better than Stoll (or Stall as I guess we're calling him here) I would love to have Stoll as a Wing
As for modeling after the Kings, yea that's a bit silly in my opinion. Aren't we still a team that other teams model themselves after? (I'm lookin at you SJS). When the Kings play better than us for a long time then maaaybe look at trying out their system.
That said, the Kings show up for every game and have a lot of heart...wouldn't mind having guys that looked like they cared a little more.

Not to mention, Stoll is a right handed shot and a great faceoff man. Something we could use on the team someday.

I doubt Abby could pull this.
