#2263064 Johan Franzen Depreciation

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 26 February 2012 - 04:11 PM

As I said in the GDT arlier, Franzen is in his early 30's, meaning his work ethic is unlikely to improve at this stage in his career. His work ethic was great early on in Detroit, when he played on the 4th line and then had to prove himself on the top two lines. Since then, he has indeed been a floater.

The reason people are upset about him, is that they see guys like Helm or Miller busting their ass off on every shift and want Franzen to do the same. They figure that Franzen + Helm's work ethic = 50 goal scorer every season. It's not entirely a bad argument.

I think you all know my opinion of Franzen so I will refrain from just bad-mouthing him. I will just say I really appreciate this thread and agree with the OP to the Nth degree!

edit: on a side note, the same can be said about Zetterberg. I do believe wholeheartedly that because of his back, he is on a downswing and will continue to get worse. I predict both of these guys retire because of health issues before their contracts are up...

He leads the league in GWG.

Close thread.

#2262848 Ericsson out One Month

I predict St. Louis will now win the division. If Detroit doesn't take top seed their chances to make it to the Stanley Cup diminish tremendously.... they are not good on the road.

That might happen, but it has nothing to do with Ericsson's injury.

There goes our chance at a Stanley Cup.

You're right you weren't being a prick. For all that's terrible about them at least pricks aren't passive aggressive. Either way, you're kind of a ******.

That's called being a prick? Well, I'm glad you didn't read my posts 4 or 5 years ago.

I just think you're dead wrong on your outlook towards the fight in the 3rd period. So do most people here apparently.

Can we please do something with Franzen? Fire him up somehow or possibly trade...this guy looks pathetic out there.

Because he knows he's got immunity. He knows he won't be traded because he's played well in the playoffs before.

Basically, he feels like he doesn't have to try every shift. Unlike a guy like Miller, who knows he has to bust his ass to keep his spot on the team.

Finally an effort in the third. I really like the line shakeup, I hope Babs sticks with that for next game. Helm and Miller are the hardest working guys on the team and deserve the second line minutes if it gets the team and Mule going.

All the non calls in the final three minutes were terrible, but hardly surprising.

Our line combos will look different next game with Selanne.

players often score goal by going to the front of the net and tipping in deflections and rebounds. That's day one stuff. Not really sure how playing fundamental hockey is now credited to watching your teammate get his ass beat. Then again I'm new to sports so what do I know about doing it right. Also, you don't have to be a prick when you respond...just for future reference.

I wasn't being a prick. Just stating the obvious. Watching your teammate take it on the chin to spark the team does motivate players sometimes. Hudler doesn't always crash the net exactly.

Are you seriously giving credit for that goal to a fight that Abby got worked over in, rather than Hudler going to the net and doing some dirty work?

Are you new to watching sports?

Players often get motivated by their teammate's actions and example.

Well, it looks like Abby's face actually gave us momentum.

#2262446 Top 15 Nicest Players

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 25 February 2012 - 04:00 PM

I'm guessing they mean off the ice.

Guys like Doan and Iginla don't exactly play a nice game on the ice.

Then I'm surprised Datsyuk is number 1. Does he hang out with so many NHL players in his free time, that they voted him nicest guy off the ice?

I mean, teammates would have better knowledge of that off ice stuff than guys playing for other teams.

#2261846 Alright, time to call Nyquist up

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 23 February 2012 - 11:06 PM

^ Wow, seriously?????

He was really ordinary, really ordinary.

I love his constant, "cycle down low then pass it back to the defenceman" play which ALWAYS gets intercepted.

As I've said before, my favorite Cleary play happens on the rush. He skates the puck to the half-wall, stops, and fires an aimless slapshot towards the net, which 99% of the time results in killing our rush.

Ah, so being the first in the league and losing without Datsyuk to the second-best team in the conference by the slimmest of margins is "inexcusable" and means that several moves must be made. I think this should be put directly under "overreaction" in the dictionary.

I'm glad you're not our GM.

We'd never make any moves ever. You would have kept Anders Eriksson most likely, because we won the Cup with him in 1998.
