#2037886 Ericsson on notice?

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 29 September 2010 - 12:18 PM

Ericsson is a big guy with no physicality. Like Uwe Krupp, Maxim Kuznetsov and Yan Golubovsky.

He still remains to be proven, unlike those guys, but that's what he looks like so far. Just a big, soft jellyfish.

#2037667 The NHL's Marketing Skills

I'm sorry I don't agree with this boards rationale that Bettman sux and the NHL does nothing right because they pay more attention to big baby Crosby than our stars.

The whining about him has gotten borderline ridiculous.

I never started this thread to promote our stars over Crosby.

I was merely saying that the league needs to market other stars around the NHL. If that happens to include Hank or Pavel, than that's fine. I was thinking more of guys like Stamkos, Miller, Parise, Lecavalier.

Also, I included Ovechkin in there with Crosby, but no one seems to talk about him.

Sounds like Doc has been hired as Bettman's publicist.

Oh and I'm so glad this didn't turn into another Crosby thread. <_<

Sammy skates faster backwards than any other player in hockey.

That is, when someone challenges him to a fight. :hehe:

They should have a Jim Carey award in the NHL.

Owens played well, but I'm just not ready yet to see someone else wearing Jason Woolley's number.

#2036040 Bad Rep Immunity Thread

So if someone makes a post that 9 people like, but 100 people don't like, then it'll look like they made a rather favorable post, since it'll be +9.

Rather odd.

I don't see what the big deal is.

Chris Benoit used to do throat jestures all the time when he was wrestling.

#2035950 Hit on Franzen worthy of suspension

So who's going to avenge Franzen?

We don't have an Enfo....... remember.

Last thing we need is for Bertuzzi to try to kill someone again.

Why does the NHL not make a serious effort to market anyone but Crosby and Ovechkin? This HBO thing is just more proof of that.

I know they're the two best players in the league and are the only household names in hockey amongst the general public. However, in other sports, it's more than just 2 players who are household names, and it's because those leagues try to make a real effort towards marketing those players. The NHL refuses to do so and I don't understand why. Isn't it better for the league if more players are marketed to the general public, instead of just showing Crosby and Ovechkin commercials all the time?

I remember last year after the Caps and Pens were eliminated, I heard many sportswriters complaining that they stopped caring about the playoffs because the two best players were gone, and I was infuriated by their stupidity and lack of knowledge about hockey. At the same time, I realized the league was responsible for this indifference, because it wasn't trying hard enough to market any other players.

I'm not saying the league should lay off these two superstars, but they need to acknowledge that there's other great stars in the game. That's what all the other sports leagues are doing and I think it will be better for hockey in the long run.

actually it's much more entertaining to have people respond to you instead of simply giving you a neg vote.

if by "many", you mean a few message board posters that have a habit of over-valuing their team's lesser players...then i guess you're right.

O.K. I have to ask this.

Are you Patrick Sharp by any chance?

#2035317 Am I the only one that respects Gary Bettman?

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 22 September 2010 - 03:23 PM

He is singlehandedly responsible for us not winning the Cup in 1995, 1996, 2004, 2006 and 2009.

#2034714 Meanest defense in the league

If Lilja was still here, we'd have the meanest defense in the NHL by default.

They still don't.

Miss ya, Lils.

Well, I know he hasn't made the team yet, but I'm just saying that the move makes sense for them. No harm in trying him out.

He should be paid no less money around the NHL than Lebda is currently set to make.
