#2088489 Winter Classic moved to 8:00

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 01 January 2011 - 01:39 PM

The way I understand it, it's not a matter of snow or warm temperatures - the rain will result in uneven ice surfaces and thus dangerous playing conditions.

Hopefully they can get the game in, having the whole thing under the lights will be cool. I'm going to watch a little and record it. I'll probably watch the whole thing when I get around to it.

I want to see Crosby playing in dangerous conditions.

#2087819 Who do you like?

Zetterberg - great playoff performer. Often disappears for stretches in the regular season.
Datsyuk - Best two way forward in hockey. Still needs to shoot more.
Lidstrom - Best defenseman in the game today. Has a worse plus/minus than Dustin Byfuglien.
Cleary - Does it all for this team on both sides of the ice. Got beat up by Chris Pronger.
Franzen - Awesome sniper who's clutch in big moments. Is one of the biggest ******* in the league.
Bertuzzi - Looks like he's big and mean. No longer plays big or mean.
Rafalski - Great puck moving defenseman. Often moves the puck to the wrong team.
Filppula - Nice hair and isn't bad looking. Overrated by 95% of LGW.
Kronwall - Good skater and puck handler. Doesn't lay big hits anymore. Also looks slightly effeminate.
Holmstrom - No one screens the goalie better. Is totally useless when not screening the goalie.
Eaves - Gave GMR a hard-on with his play in the last game. Unlikely to get more icetime from Babcock.
Stuart - Great hitter. Afraid to fight despite being 6'2 and from Western Canada.
Hudler - Has a way with the ladies. Has played so poorly that even Crymson hates him.
Helm - Very fast and hard working. Makes Draper's hands look like Mario Lemieux's.
Ericsson - Has improved his play and is a willing fighter. Needs to add about 20 pounds.
Abdelkader - Loves to hit and can drop the gloves. Sucks at fighting.
Modano - Had a 96 overall in my NHL 2000 game. Would be lucky to be rated 80 in this year's game.
Salei - Has played somewhat decent this season. Takes a penalty in every game.
Miller - Looks cool with grey hair despite being around 30. Has been totally invisible this season.
Draper - Has been a Wing since I was in elementary school. Is the unofficial mascot for the team.
Osgood - Has put together a really good career. Has a bigger 5-hole than Jenna Jameson.
Howard - Solid young goalie and the future in net. Is not as good as Carey Price.

#2087204 All About Eaves

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 30 December 2010 - 12:11 AM

Everyone knows that I've not afraid to be critical of Holland, but I have to compliment him on acquiring Eaves last year. I wasn't in favor of the signing, especially since Eaves was a player that seemed to be going backwards in his career and had been passed around several teams. He just didn't look special at any area of the game.

However, he has turned out to be a great signing and is a guy that we can plug into several situations out there. He's starting to remind me of Dan Cleary, namely being a journeyman who we helped resurrect. I don't know if he'll continue improving his offensive skills like Cleary has, but he's got a good shot and isn't afraid of going to the net. I wouldn't be against him getting more time with the top forwards, especially in situations like this with injuries. Maybe even some time on the PP.

So can this guy be a 20+ goal scorer for us in the future? He's on pace for that right now.

Oh, and I couldn't resist the title of the thread, being a film buff and all. ;)

Nothing unusual.

Probert and McCarty were known to have drinking problems of their own.

There's probably a lot more untreated cases around the NHL that we never hear about.

#2086187 Jiri Hudler Watch Thread

This follows what I have been saying. Give Hudler top six ice time and you'll get good production in return.

Dude, he's been on the PP all year.

Last night was just the first time he finally produced on it.

I don't know how you can say he hasn't been on the top 6, when he's constantly getting time on the PP with the top players. Do you want Babcock to make him the #1 center or something?

Then who cares that he held onto the puck a couple of seconds longer? That game was over no matter what Flip did with the puck.

I know Mindfly would agree with me, so I'm right on this.

Gutsy effort by the Wings. They made Blues look stupid for over 40 minutes. Red Wings should have won this one. Nobody to blame other than playing the night before and starting off slow.

Can't blame the team, this was a scheduled loss.

Bad excuse.

Teams have owned us several times this year when they were playing back to back.

Not to mention, we'll have lots of back to back games coming up. I hope Babcock isn't preaching the same stuff you are to the team, otherwise there's already plenty of built in excuses.

The team lost because their point coverage stunk and they gave up too many odd man rushes on the PP instead of having chances of their own.

You are more annoying with this than the Wings fans who whine about Crosby getting attention every game.

Actually, I made a rather valid point.

Thanks for your insightful response to it.

Datsyuk should fight Sammy the next time they play against each other.

I hate that fool.

I think I heard Daniels say during the 3rd period Datsyuk will play tomorrow

That's why announcers shouldn't be served alcohol during games.

Thank God for overrated goalies.

Luongo gave us a few early Christmas gifts tonight.

And the Penguins keep on winning. That almost annoys me more.

Yeah, but can they win with Hudler on their team?

were struggling with datsyuk whats gonna happen when hes out for a month or two?

Draper will fill in for Pavel.

I'm not worried if he's out a long time.

I have to agree.

Last I checked, human beings make mistakes. Look at all the mistakes that the Wings have taken advantage of. Some of these mistakes have made coaches and players on other teams look foolish. Yet, they don't wallow in self pity or penalize themselves. They get back on the horse and keep going. In the course of a season, even the best players are going to turn the puck over and/or make key mistakes in a game. Even Lidstrom has done this, even in his Norris trophy winning days.

True fans of the team will stand behind their team and players to the end. Not push them under the bus when they make a mistake.

Not this s*** again.

Rafalski got first star, right? He was responsible for the game tying goal and the game winning goal. Total clutch play.

Hudler is better defensively than Rafalski.
