#2027216 Hawks sign Fernando Pisani, $500k

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 18 August 2010 - 06:34 PM

He's become cheaper than a hooker.

That illness he had has pretty much ended his career after that lucky one-month wonder in 2006, where people like Manny Legace made him look amazing.

It's his destiny to play here.

None of those soft leagues in Europe could handle the "PAIN TRAIN". Can you imagine some europuss trying to square off against him?

Seems like many people over the last year or so think he's done being a nominee for this trophy anymore.

I don't agree. Last year he played a lot better as the season went on, after people started coming back from injuries. If this team stays healthy, and is as good offensively as people think it will be, I see Nick as having another good run at this trophy. His game has dropped off a little, but he's still capable of putting together another year better than any other defenseman.

It would give him 7 and tie him with Doug Harvey.

#2024959 Wings sign Ruslan Salei

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 10 August 2010 - 06:56 PM

I don't consider guys like Sutton or Hnidy to be enforcers.

You guys are just stereotyping based on my previous posts in other threads. Here, we're talking about tough 3rd pair defensemen and not wingers who are straight up enforcers like Boogaard. That's changing the topic and talking about the 4th line, which is not what I'm doing in this thread, although I have done it before in those threads.

I just want to know why posters criticize defensemen who can't skate and take occasional bad penalties, and then they praise this signing. It seems hypocritical to me and I don't think it's because Salei is perceived as being really good all around, because he's really not. He's a straight up defensive defenseman, just like many of the other players me and several other posters have wanted.

Maybe because Salei has some all-around ability?

Name me one Stanley Cup we won where we "needed" our 3rd pairing to produce offensively?

I can't think of any.

I don't think we signed him for his offense any more than we did Bob Rouse, Andreas Lija or anyone else who played on our 3rd pairing in past years. He was brought in for his defensive play more than anything else.

All around play is what guys like Lidstrom and Kronwall log the big icetime for.

If I remember correctly, Salei has never been an adept skater, and is known for taking dumb penalties from time to time.

Many posters here have adamantly criticized others who have wanted a tough defenseman of some kind, for the same reasons as those I listed above. Yet those same posters have praised Salei without reserve.

Kronwall, Franzen (coming off mega injuries), Zetterberg, Rafalski... the latter two also had problems with their backs, rafalski had an herniated disk but that was in the offseason so we didn't notice it as much and he's been healthy since, zetterberg with his yearly backspasms...

He's 35, 36 later in this year, he's old but it's not like he's 38/39...

Give it a rest.

It's easier for younger players to heal. And even those guys have shown rust coming back from injuries in the past. Kronwall was never the same last year after his injury. And I hope to God that he's better defensively than your boy Rafalski.

If we were going to sign a Russian, I wish we'd have gone with this man.

Yeah, I know Salei is from Belarus, but he did play for Russia once and for all intents and purposes is still somewhat Russian. :D

He missed 56 games last year with a back injury. Also he's 36 years old.

I wouldn't call him a soft player, because he is physical, but he never fights and is coming off a serious injury.

I guess the Wings figured he's cheap and they didn't want to sign anyone else for some reason. This seems like more of a Babcock move than a Holland one.

Also, it's funny how people here are attacking anyone who's willing to disagree with this signing. Apparently we can't have opinions around here anymore. It's not a terrible signing, but not a good one either. Hopefully it'll turn out better than it looks. Kind of like Markov in 2007.

Don't see why people are upset. He's dirt cheap, he's mean, he can hit. He's a better Lilja and cheaper. He could complement Ericsson really well and help his development along. And he's probably eager to play for a quality team. What is the issue here?

The main issue is his health and his age. Those are good issues to worry about.

#2024060 #24 should be retired? But to who?

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 08 August 2010 - 07:23 PM

Maybe Red Kelly's number wasn't retired because he spent a significant amount of time playing for the Leafs.

All the players the Wings have retired spent either their entire career, or almost their entire career (like say Howe) playing for the Wings.

I don't see them giving it to two players who played a long time with other franchises.

We're not the divealanche.

#2023935 Lukas Krajicek

Krajicek actually has been known to throw some pretty nice hipchecks, though not often enough

So has my dog. Should we sign him?

#2023926 Forsberg eyeing another NHL comeback?

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 08 August 2010 - 12:02 PM

No one hates Joe Sakic, no one should hate Forsberg either.

Joe Sakic was a class act, and not a diving little ***** ***** who likes to draw too much attention to himself, and not back up his actions.

And I'm not a Canadian on this board.

As Mors said, this would be a waste of time. We need a physical 6th defenseman, and not a tall skinny puss.
