#2535689 Dekeyser signed. 2 yrs $2.187 million AAV

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 07 September 2014 - 04:04 PM

Does anyone think that DeKeyser isn't signed yet because they still don't know the status of Alfredsson?  Signing one, or both of them could dictate the amount and length of the deal.  If Alfredsson signs for 1 year, they could tell DeKeyser to take a 1 year 2 million deal and then sign long term but if Alfredsson retires then they could offer 5 years at 3.5 per or something along those terms.

UGH. I hate what this re-signing has done to people's (myself included) perception of Cleary. That video just made me want to hug him and beg him to retire.

Also, did anyone else notice he referred to himself as "Danny?"

I HATE the signing, but after watching tons of Wings videos this summer, I must say if Cleary was as good a player as he is a person, he would win the Hart Trophy this season.  I truly hope he proves us all wrong and has a bounce back season.

Bettman is still the Anti-Christ.  Nothing that man does at this point can undo the wrongs that happened under his rule.

Doesn't everyone love articles that make a big deal about nothing?  Girl weighs 120 pounds, Helm squats with what...600?

#2533685 Who is YOUR most under-appreciated/unsung Red Wing?

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 04 August 2014 - 01:09 PM

In my mind Konstantinov would have been legendary had that tragedy not occurred.

And we'd be looking at the Leafs in the rear view for Cup wins.  He was THAT good.  Stevens and Niedermayer while great could not hold the jocks of Lids and Vladdy and that's saying something.  We all love a good Kronwalling, but those are bumps compared to what Vladdy dished out.  Man he could hit.  And for some reason, he scored breakaway goals.  Pure awesomeness.

He would also be my pick.

I think you could also make a case for the Lightning, Canadiens, Blue Jackets, Avalanche.

Tampa is definitely the best on that list.  They'll be fun to watch for sure.  I'll cheer for them more cause Stevie Y built them.

#2533523 Confused on the direction of this team going forward

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 02 August 2014 - 10:53 AM

Definitely! From a management perspective, it’s a team effort as well. You can have the best GM in the world, but if his assistants, scouts, coaches etc. are garbage, it doesn’t matter. With that being said, you can have the best the assistants, scouts, coaches etc. in the world, but if you have a GM (or owners) who don’t listen or care what they have to say, it doesn’t matter either.

I'm pretty happy with the way things are going. I'm just crossing my fingers that the kids can become upper tier/elite players while the vets (Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall etc.) can still play at an elite level. I think they will, but only time will tell.

That's why it's good that the one thing we can never complain about is that Holland listens to his scouts.  Without that happening, we would never have had the Datsyuk's, Zetterberg's and Hampus Melen's.  Even while Holland is having a rough stretch and I'm no doubt not that happy with him along with most, he's still getting guys like Sheahan signed for under 1 mil, giving Tatar a very fair deal for both sides and drafting guys to play effectively in today's NHL.  Things aren't great at the moment for the Wings, but the future looks bright.  Like I said in another thread as well, once the kids take over the Wings and the new arena is built and rejuvenates Detroit, players in the NHL are going to wish they came to the Wings.  We'll have guys saying "I want to go to Detroit to play with Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan, Mantha, Sproul, Ouellet, Smith, Marchenko...."  They'll chose a contender over milking cows in Minnesota with their girlfriends family or whatever that crap was about with Farmer Suter and ******* Yeehaw Parise.

Edit:  Add Athaniesou to my list.  I have a good feeling about that kid.

#2533412 Confused on the direction of this team going forward

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 31 July 2014 - 11:17 AM

I personally love the direction this team is going. I think the plan for a few years has been to get younger, due in part to the salary cap, as well as bigger, evident by our past few drafts. We have a lot to get excited about as fans. There is going to be a ton of talent coming up over the next few years, and a lot of these kids have the size and strength to go along with the speed and skill. Sure, we have struck out on the past 2 of 3 free agency periods, and we haven't really done anything at the trade deadline, but I do believe there is a plan in place and Kenny sees the bigger picture. Unlike most fans that are very eager for the quick fix, Ken is very patient and knows that it's going to take time to get back to the top, he know what it takes to build a contender, and doing so without ever having to tank is pretty remarkable.

It also helps that we have the best scouts in the NHL.

Not from Grand Rapids they won't.

Also, how can you honestly blame our bad start at the beginning of last season on lame plugs without immediately acknowledging that those same "lame plugs" are mostly still on the team.  We have the same problem we did a year ago.

We haven't made it past the second round of the playoffs in half a decade.  You can't blame that all on Sammy, Cleary, and injuries.  And if you do, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

I know we still have some issues to deal with, but having Tatar and Nyquist on the roster from day 1 is a positive compared to last year.  We still have Cleary, Kindl, Quincey and Andersson, but with the season starting with a healthy Z, Dats, Helm and Weiss along with Tatar and Nyquist guaranteed roster spots, you have to at least have a shred of hope that this team can do more than just suck.  Hopefully Smith is given a larger role as well and Kindl finds himself in GR and not on the PP.  Point is, with a healthy roster to start the year, I'll remain positive until I'm given a reason to be negative.

#2533250 Predictions for the DRW 2014-15 Season!

The problem with placing all our hopes on a healthy team is that it ignores the fact that for the first part of last season we were totally healthy and we still weren't that good.  We were also totally healthy for the 4 post seasons before last year.  Same results though.

Like everyone else, I'd obviously prefer we were healthy rather than not.  But a lot of people are going to be very disappointed when they realize that we can make all the excuses we want, but there are a lot of holes in our team that didn't get solved in the offseason, and won't be solved by Datsyuk staying healthy.

We've got an undersized, perimeter, team that can't play in the crease.  We don't have a single top flight player in his prime.  We've got a defense that can't move the puck efficiently. We've got horrible special teams.  And we've got an offensive scheme that hasn't yielded quality results in 5 years.

Obviously, I'd love to be wrong.  The best case scenario is that we get healthy and win a Cup.  But I'm not holding my breath.  Second best scenario?  Get healthy and struggle just as much as we did a year ago.  At least that way nobody can use the "injury" excuse anymore.

We weren't that good to start the season cause our healthy players included plugs like Sammy and Cleary and a lame, regressed Kindl with Tatar in the press box and Nyquist in the minors.

Undersized perimeter crap will be solved with developing guys like Jurco and Mantha to go to the dirty areas and bury goals.

#2533188 Tatar Signs 3 Year Deal $2.75 mill AAV

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 28 July 2014 - 03:22 PM

Wow, way more than I thought it would be, and I do think it's over payment but like a lot of others are saying, I'm just happy to have him re-signed.

$2.75 mil per for 3 years for a guy who only got less than 20 goals cause he was a healthy scratch for the first 9 games?  I'll take that deal any day for Tatar.  His value is high for the team and will only get more valuable.

I mean, in a full season Tatar's going to give you 20+ goals.  To me 20 goals is worth 2.75 million, every day of the week.  20+ goals and shutdown defense will get you 5 million plus.  Ask Kesler or O'Reilly.

Tatar's getting paid what he should.

Damn right homie!  Agreed 100%.  Tatar will be a bargain when he gets 25+ goals next season, and the next, and the next.

I can dig your positivity.

Also, I almost forgot about Cowan. That dude needs to be dealt with early this season.

Glad to hear.  I'm about done with all the negative whirlwind around Cleary and Quincey.  I'm looking forward to the future of this team with Mantha, Larkin, Sproul, Ouellet, Mrazek and so on, and looking forward to as much Helm, Z and Dats as possible and for Weiss to silence the naysayers with a solid 50 point season and Smith getting his real shot and showing everyone that he's legit.  All the positives are being overshadowed by a few negatives.  Sure it was a terrible offseason again, but we also had a 2nd draft in a row that saw us get not 1 guy under 6 feet.  Once this team injects more of the top prospects into the line up and the arena is built downtown and the city is rejuvenated, guys are gonna wish they signed here the past few seasons and people will line up to play with the list of guys above....you know, aside from the guys who went to play for other teams to be closer to family and play with a good friend and all that.  Kenny can't control those things and I don't blame him for any of those.  Next season is pretty far from over seeing as it hasn't started yet.  Lots of time to find success.

Confused on the direction of the team moving forward?  Bad bridge deals to hold the kids back, but once we get the kids, they're ready and f*** me they're good!  I guess a little extra time in Blashill's hands isn't the worst thing that can happen.

If you look at my line-up (which was done in a pretty light-hearted fashion by the way) it's clear that I was looking 3-4 years down the road. By then, Ericsson's deal will be up and he'll be passed over for younger/better players. And Helm? Let's just just say, with his injury history,  I'll be surprised if he can still walk in 3-4 years

In 3-4 years, Helm will be skating circles around a pile of crows for LGW to feast upon ;)

I hope he plays 82 games next season and everyone forgets the past 2 years.

No big E ?

No Helm is the worst part.  I'd love to see the speed on a line of Helm-Larkin-Athaniesou.

Nyquist - Zetterberg - Franzen

Tatar - Datsyuk - Jurco

Sheahan - Weiss - Mantha

Abdelkader - Helm - Callahan

Miller - Glendenning

Kronwall - Ericsson

DeKeyser - Quincey

Smith - Sproul

Lashoff

Howard

Mrazek

2015-16 Stanley Cup Champions! :stanley: ;)

That line up makes me actually want to get NHL Gamecenter after this year.  I wish we could swap KFQ for Ouellet though.  His positioning, vision and 1st pass make him a huge asset.  One can assume Marchenko's gonna make a push soon too, so Ericsson will have to play exceptional to keep that spot with Kronwall.

#2532671 2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 21 July 2014 - 06:25 AM

Seabrook and Bickell and others from Chicago are available per nhl.com. Would love to have them. Both can make a huge impact on our team. Kenny needs to wake up.

I'd rather not take on Bickell, but Seabrook is exactly what our blueline needs.  That is a trade where I would be willing to use Tatar as a centrepiece.

#2532181 preds prospects Viktor Arvidsson and Kevin Fiala shootout moves

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 15 July 2014 - 05:42 PM

As a life long Wings and Jets fan, it is not the "Forsberg", it's the Zhamnov.  Forsberg can suck it.  Z and that Preds kid do "The Zhamnov".  Glad I could finally get that off my chest.

In addition, Forsberg did it what? 1994 Olympics or something?  I was at one of the Jets games in 92 or 93 when Zhamnov broke in and started doing it.

Back on topic, sort of, I like Preds fan.  Anyone who rags on him for posting a topic in the General Discussion area needs to calm the hell down.  People always say, hey, I don't know much about that guys, can anybody shed light on what that player is like.  Here's a video of what a couple players are like, now you don't have to ask.

Edit:  After some research, Wiki stated that Forsberg borrowed the move from retired Swede Kent NIlsson, but that doesn't take away the fact that Zhamnov did the move 2 years before Floppa.
