#2434548 USA Olympic '14 Jerseys

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 31 August 2013 - 07:55 PM

Well, I'm American, so I have to root for all of them. *ambivalent face*

(Secretly, I'm rooting for Sweden.)

Also, all these people saying that the people responsible for the U.S. jerseys are going to be fired into oblivion - you know that's not going to happen. You know they're getting promotions and raises and sublimated stars.

Haha!  So I'm not the only one?  I have a feeling I'll be somehow disappointed with Canada's roster and will just cheer for Red Wings to do well.

#2434325 One player to put us over the top

Dan Girardi from the Rangers. He's a UFA after this season--so it might not be that unreasonable if the Rangers fall out of contention and feel they likely can't re-sign him. Plus, Glen Sather's an idiot.

I'd trade Quincey away somehow to make room for him. NYR probably wouldn't want Quincey since he's also a UFA next offseason. But I'd overpay a bit for Girardi--a right handed guy who's extremely solid defensively. Certainly better than Q.

Kronwall-Girardi

DeKeyser-Kindl

Smith-Ericsson

Lashoff

That would be awesome...

I really like the idea of Girardi for Quincey and maybe even throw in a guy like Almqvist.  That would wrap things up on D quite well.  I think the real thing we're missing as well on forward is a guy like Milan Lucic.  I would be willing to give up Franzen and Mrazek for him in a heartbeat.  I may even throw in the 1st round pick as well.  I'd take him over Evander Kane.  Kane has the same issues that Seguin does, which is why Loui Eriksson is a much better all around player than he is.  He doesn't have the off ice crap going on and his game is exceptional.  Eriksson is also another guy I really wanted, but I'll settle for him on the B's.  Lucic on a line with Dats and Z would be monstrous.  Weber wouldn't turnbuckle smash Z with Lucic on the ice and neither would anyone else.  He's also an annoying net presence.

#2433272 Who do we Unload, reload on before the season starts?

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 14 August 2013 - 12:06 PM

Not just Helm. Even if Helm plays 82, I bet Emdog still plays.

That would necessitate Andersson be hurt then.  If Dats or Z are injured, they have the healthy one at centre and wingers move around.  If Weiss is injured, Dats and Z are split up or Franzen takes 2nd centre duties.  If Helm or Andersson are injured and Tuzzi is healthy, Abdelkader could move down to 4th line centre and Tuzzi can take his spot on the 1st line with Dats and Z.  Emmerton is a last resort bud....sorry.

#2432151 Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 01 August 2013 - 12:23 PM

What's crazy to me is that the Captain of a team won't even have an A on our team now lol

Unlike Parise and Suter, Alfie will be heading to a team with strong leadership and more than 4 "good" players.  He's probably pretty ok with that.

I'm not sure skill sets has anything to do with it. With viable (cheaper) options available still in the UFA pool. Why trade and give up an asset, even a 7th rounder to help out another team?

Not buying out Bertuzzi was a mistake IMHO.

As impressed as I am and how much I like Abdelkader, if Tuzzi is healthy, he's a better option for the top line to play with Dats and Z.  That would give Abs the chance to get back to grinding and hitting on a line that does that and Tuzzi would bring everything and more than Abdelkader on the top line.

#2431733 It's time - to predict 2014 Team USA

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 28 July 2013 - 05:27 PM

I would say Quick, Anderson, Howard, Miller, Schneider, Kane, Kessel, Parise, Ryan, Byfuglien, Suter, Yandle (and possibly Kesler with his 2-way skills) would all have a very good chance of cracking Canada's lineup. Although the great thing about the direction USA hockey is going, in another 4 years that number should grow big time. So much young American talent coming up the ranks. Hopefully most of them will develop accordingly.

No to Kesler for sure, Ryan and Yandle.

#2431433 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 24 July 2013 - 08:22 PM

Ok then let's have a conversation about Quincey. Turnover after turnover after bad mistake. The only reason he wasn't in the press box was because we had no one to replace him with. You seriously think he is good then I beg you to get your eyes checked because he was abysmal.

Q is signed for thankfully only 1 more year. Just enough time to fast track Sproul, our futurw #1 dman. People can quote me for future reference if anyone thinks I'm out to lunch...but I'm calling it now.

#2431043 Each NHL Team's Mount Rushmore

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 21 July 2013 - 09:51 AM

Eva still posts on HFboards, and still the same unique combination of irrational man-love for Chiasson, Hudler and Kopecky, obscure statistical justifications, and well thought out, rational posts

For Buffalo, did you consider Mogilny?  Only 4 seasons, but one of the greatest goal scoring seasons in NHL history.

Only real question for Detroit is Sawchuk or Lindsay.  I think I'd go for Sawchuk personally, although when John Buccigross did this a few years ago he actually had Mike Ilitch on there, which is a great shout IMO.

That's what I was thinking when i mentioned LaFontaine for Buffalo/NYI.  Him and Mogilny were insane together.  Especially in NHL games on Sega

I cant believe how crazy hockey goalies were.

Now they can't even get grazed by a guy without playing dead.  Hang that on the wall for goalies to see.

#2430553 Red Wings popularity in Detroit/Michigan

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 17 July 2013 - 06:51 PM

Hockey is by far the best sport, though it has the worst officiating which is probably due to so many rule changes all the time and deciding what's a penalty.

Football is 2nd, but I mainly stopped watching cause it gets old quick when every play some overzealous ******* just NEEDS to celebrate the play, no matter what it is.  Holy crapballs!...I ran for 2 yards, here's a pre-cursor to my end zone dance in another 80 yards.

Baseball...home runs are cool, that's about it.  The rest of the game is so painfully boring that if I had to suffer watching an entire game, I'd peel my skin off like a fiending drug addict.

Basketball.  What can I say.  You want a sport that's so much hype...  You can win a championship with 3 good players.  3!  Oh no you di'int just slap my wrist.  Foul!  Look ref, you can see where he slapped me.

Soccer.  They play dead every time someone slide tackles you.  If a football or hockey player (not named Mike Ribeiro) saw that, they would be completely disgusted.

Which brings me back to baseball.  Synchronized swimming is pure excitement compared to that s***.  I'd take the Westminster dog show if given the choice.

#2430340 Best Hitter on the Team

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 16 July 2013 - 12:44 PM

If only Big E used his size and Bert was younger; Vladdy was the best that comes to mind

But the current roster, Kronwall

Vladdy paved the way for Kronwall.  The open ice hits Vladdy used to lay on guys would make Kronwall blush.  He no doubt studied the tapes before he started Kronwalling guys.  So to say, the Vladiating of many was passed on to what we now refer to as Kronwalling.  Open ice hits kick ass.

#2430151 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 15 July 2013 - 12:21 PM

The more I read about this, I truly believe this is the biggest issue with him.

That is why NJD look so intriguing to him, with Kovy leaving they have a large gap in their top 6.

In the span of 2 years, the Devils lose Parise, Clarkson and Kovalchuk.  That's a top line...  With our D departures in the past few years, we know exactly how they feel, and it kinda sucks.  Lots of ice time for Brunner if he goes there.  And he'll either be flanking Zajac or Henrique likely.

#2430016 Ilya Kovalchuk announces retirement

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 14 July 2013 - 11:50 AM

If the lockout lasted the entire season, how many of you think that Datsyuk may not have signed on for 3 more years and would be right there with Kovy?  At first, I thought Kovalchuk was out of his mind leaving the NHL as one of the best pure snipers of this generation, with over .50 goals per game over his 816 career regular season games, but then I thought to myself....lose Kovalchuk now from the NHL and maybe we see the next CBA expire without another lockout, cause the NHL will be afraid of losing more of their top players to leagues without lockouts or salary caps where you can play tax free.  Maybe in the long run, something like this is the best thing for the NHL, cause Kovalchuk is NHL talent bringing his bag of tricks elsewhere.

#2429484 Trade/Buyout thread

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 11 July 2013 - 12:47 PM

I would love to see them have to get rid of Pietrangelo, and him end up a wing.

I really like his game!

Stewart would not be bad pick up either, other than the glut of forwards the Wings have.

As I've said before, my favorite non-Wings Dman.  Kid's got skill and he's responsible with it.  He and Shattenkirk are a hell of a pair.

#2429483 Smith files for arbitration

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 11 July 2013 - 12:45 PM

I'm definitely not forgetting, and as I've stated over, and over, and over again...he's going to get better and I'm glad he's on the team.  I'm just sick to death of people who either make excuses for him, or whitewash the fact that he didn't play very well.  He played like a boneheaded rookie, he'll get paid based on that, and one day down the line he won't play that way anymore (which is a good thing).

I'm not against Smith, I just make no illusions about his play thus far.

That's about the 2,000,000th time I've said that.  In the future it might do you some good to read the posts previous to yours.  In this case, the one where I responded to Amato and said the exact same thing that I'm saying to you now.  Then you wouldn't have to take all that time to find snarky little gifs to make a point I'd agreed to months ago.

Gifs are fun.

#2429480 Development Camp Day 1

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 11 July 2013 - 12:36 PM

Little Tuzzi is a firecracker!  Guess Holland taking him with his bonus 2nd round pick isn't so bad now in everyone's favorite word...."hindsight".  They'll be buddies in a couple years and look back and laugh at it.  Competition is fierce is seems and that's a good thing.  Now lets all imagine Tuzzi Jr on a line with Callahan......nice.
