    Update from Wednesday's practice

You're just totally regurgitating Ed Olczyk's EXACT comments WORD FOR WORD....from the Calgary game. Does anyone really believe that Ed Olczyk has any insight into anything to do w/ the Red Wings? Let alone know what Hasek is thinking & feeling...pffft come on

Why are Wings away games not shown in HD?

I'm pretty sure the reason we usually dont see away games in HD has to do with FSN & contracts with other broadcasting companies. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but here in Detroit, we'll usually get away games from St. Louis on FSNHD. Pretty much all teams have their home games in HD now, I think its easier for FSN to get away games in HD when the game is on a local FSN market. That doesnt seem to be true for certain other teams ex: San Jose home games are in HD, however we never get them on FSNHD when the Wings play @ HP Pavillion. The game tonight is on some kind of local Vancouver station, i think its called Orca Bay? I don't know if its HD or not, but most teams have their home teams games' in HD. Next time you're at Joe Louis Arena, take a look at the main camera thats at the top of the lower bowl, across from the benches - you'll almost always see two cameras there. I'm not sure why, exactly, but I think that might have something to do with one being HD and one being SD, or it has something to do with one camera is FSN & the other is some other broadcaster...etc - I'd like to know more about it myself. edit- I'm stupid I thought it was Saturday night tonight

Where in the World is Carm...I mean Darren McCarty

Wow, this is sad to hear, no doubt. I was wondering to myself what was going on with him, as I hadn't heard of anyone signing him. I'm sure nobody will ever forget his cup-clinching goal in 1997 on Ron Hextall. One of the most amazing, most famous goals in Cup Finals history. Sad... I would love if the Wings signed him near the trade deadline, I think if he was healthy he COULD make a difference in the playoffs.

something odd i noticed about holmstroms padding...

I totally agree, I've been playing with some "Vintage" style shoulder pads made by, I think its Winwell - for the past 2 years, bought them brand new from Perani's in Livonia: I used to wear hard plastic Douglas shoulder pads that were almost like football shoulder pads, similar to these: I have not noticed any lack of protection with these Winwell, which are much much smaller and thinner - they do allow me great mobility and are much lighter. I can still knock people flat if I have to without a problem~!

Pics from tonight's season opener vs. Ducks

Glad everyone enjoyed the pictures. I thought the "Fire On Ice" gimmick was cool, but then again when Pantera had flames shooting out of their sign at the "Reinventing the Steel" tour, I thought it was cool then. Flames shooting out of stuff is always cool. I was bothered by the empty seats too, that was the one downer to the whole night. If you're like some people on this board (Offsides) and you don't let it bother you, then it was just an incredible night to be a Red Wings fan in Detroit. I wish all the out-of-towners on this board could be there to fill in all those great empty seats! I'll continue to post pics from games periodically, for the people who can't get there and appreciate it. I've been waiting like 10 years for the chance to have seats like these for the Wings, so I'm living the dream.

    Hockeytown NON-Authentics

Well I'm sorry you're having this huge problem - I can definately relate, having been a jersey collector since I've been about 12 years old. I've noticed that Hockeytown Non-Authentics (as you call it) are no authority on jerseys in general, whatever they have is what they think is "authentic" when it isnt necessarily the case. I have bought my last 2 jerseys from the Old Man at Joe Louis Arena (I really should get his name, since we are practically buddies now) - he runs the little stand thats like inside the Gordie Howe Entrance to the left. He has authentics that are STRAIGHT from like, Paul Boyer. He can order you any player. He's amazing. I got a Zetterberg away jersey from him back during Zata's rookie year, he ordered it for me, and its just amazing. I did the same thing with a Datsyuk a year later. As for buying replica jerseys, I honestly have not bought a replica since I was very young. Nonetheless, I definately HAVE noticed that the new RBK Edge "Premier" or whatever NONSENSE they are calling the replica version, is TERRIBLE. It has cuts on the sides, and like you said, the lettering is NOT AUTHENTIC whatsoever, much smaller and not even close to being the same thing. When they start getting RBK EDGE authentics in at Joe Louis Arena, I will probably buy one (I'm hoping by then Grigorenko will be tearing it up in the NHL - haha) - I would rather pay $330 and get the EXACT s*** I'm trying to get then pay $155 for something that is not going to satisfy me. I know its a lot of money, but you will feel so much better in authentics.
  9. For whoever's interested, the view from my seats for tonight, including pics of all the shooters in the shootout. Red Wings vs. Ducks

    10/3 GDT: Red Wings 3, Anaheim Ducks 2 (F/SO)

BOOOOOYAH!!! That was a great game. I just got back, and what a blast. It felt like Game 8 of the Western Conf. Finals or something, very intense. All in all, it was a great night to be a Wings fan in Detroit~! I'll post some pics in a bit

Zetterberg in Euro NHL 08 commercials

Wow, I really think thats sweet. Very smart marketing by EA Sports, Zata on the cover of the Swedish version and Teemu on the cover of the Finnish version. Makes me wonder why Eric Staal is on the cover of the North American version...

Pics from Wings/Leafs Sept 29 - front row

I think zata40 is referring to pic #21 -- Grigorenko post-fight It sounded like people were surprised that Grigs got in a scrap, but I had read scouting reports before that describe him as "fiesty" and said that he will drop the gloves if it comes to that. Not the typical euro stereotype. That was sweet, but the Cleary fight was sweeter because you could see Newbury talking s*** before the faceoff, and Cleary just did NOT have time.
  13. Here if anyones interested, I upped all my photos from the Sept 29th preseason game between the Wings/Leafs, nearly 100 pics. Some good shots of Cleary throwing down, and Grigorenko too, right in front of me. Wings/Leafs on webshots I'll be doing this regularly, if people are interested in seeing pics of the game. -Jon

One Last Pre-Season Game: Leafs @ Red Wings

yeah there WAS a fight in the stands last season during the Wings/Leafs game, that was a hockey-night-in-detroit night, I remember it. What a great game to be at, an intense pre-season game to say the least, wont be surprised if the entertainment value of this game beats out the average regular season game. I think everyone is in agreement, we need to see more of Toronto, and the other Original 6 teams. I've got a ton of pics from tonights game I'll post tomorrow.

One Last Pre-Season Game: Leafs @ Red Wings

FYI people, banging on the glass in the front row is not allowed and you can get kicked out for it. I need my LGW peeps to find out who made this a LEAGUE POLICY, I suspect Bettman is behind it.
