#2538594 Datsyuk to play Thursday? Weiss to be a healthy scratch?

Posted by Z and D for the C on 06 October 2014 - 04:21 PM

I wish we would trade either Helm or Abdelkader or a pick or two. They're both getting pretty redundant. If one of them were let go, I'd like to see:

Zetterberg Datsyuk Helm/Abdelkader

Nyquist Weiss Franzen

Tatar Sheahan Jurco

Miller/Glendening/Andersson/Nestrasil

Cleary

Not putting Weiss in the lineup would be incredibly stupid. I think he played well in the preseason despite only 1 assist. It took Hossa a little bit to mesh with the team, it'll take Weiss even longer and not even having him start the season would be a huge blow to his morale. Thankfully I think Babcock is just sending a message, he'll be in.

Just like demoting Weiss after not registering a point while given third line minutes with Kevinf****** Porter on his wing.

How is it that he didn't lead the team in points with opportunities like that?

Babcock has a history of giving 2nd line centers s***ty wingers and being confused when they don't produce.

#2538220 10/3 Preseason Game: Detroit Red Wings vs Toronto Maple Leafs

Posted by Z and D for the C on 03 October 2014 - 08:14 PM

I don't get why Babcock won't try playing Gus with Weiss. He is wasting Weiss's talent. Babs split up Gus and Hank and has Gus playing with Anderson now. I am sorry but Weiss is way better than Andseron and I want to see what that combo looks like.

I think its because he wants to see Anderson as much as possible in the preseason. The preseason isn't about the best teams its about getting the best looks at your players.

Yeah Gus sucks I hope Mrazek is our backup

#2537625 Are the wings underrated?

Posted by Z and D for the C on 29 September 2014 - 05:57 PM

I think this is the best team we've had in a few years, assuming we stay healthy and one year ago we could have won the Cup. I think we're a little underrated right now.

#2537201 Datsyuk 2nd degree separated shoulder injury - out approx 4 weeks

Posted by Z and D for the C on 24 September 2014 - 04:26 PM

Flames have half a dozen guys for that stuff.

Yeah, if we could only be the flames with their 4th from last place finish in the standings last year.

Well that's not being fair you mentioned Vancouver too, they did a lot better than the Flames: tied for 5th worst record.

You're right frankgrimes. we should model ourselves after those teams.

#2531769 Confused on the direction of this team going forward

Posted by Z and D for the C on 12 July 2014 - 08:40 AM

Hossa was offered the same contract they gave Franzen, he turned it down so they went with plan b and signed Franzen.

That is nothing but an excuse. Franzen was signed before Hossa and after there wasn't enough cap space to sign Hossa to a contract he deserved. Of course he would turn down Franzen money, he is worth way more. There is no excuse for such a horrible decision by Holland.

#2529002 Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV

Posted by Z and D for the C on 01 July 2014 - 07:06 PM

I think he started to turn it around later in the season.  But he will not help the team reach another level and that is what we are supposed to be striving for.  We couldn't get it even close to done last year with the team we had, so why the hell are we going the same old played out strategy.  If they continue down this path of apathy I hope the fans show their distress by hitting the pockets of thisf****** disappointing team..

This is a broken record, but if Pav and Z have a healthy year and Weiss doesn't turn out to be a bust we have a pretty good set of forwards with the young kids and if we do make a trade we should have a better team this year.

Two seasons ago we came within a single goal of beating the Stanley Cup winners. Last year was s***ty, but look at our injuries we had. We're not as bad as people think.

Obviously I'm disappointing we didn't get better players...but am I the only one who doesn't think Quincey is THAT bad? If Holland can trade for a top 2 defenseman like he said was his backup plan was without giving too much away I'll be happy to have Quincey. He is a serviceable bottom 4 defenseman.

#2527637 It's too bad about us having Weiss...

Posted by Z and D for the C on 01 July 2014 - 10:48 AM

Once. Every other year he was hurt or ineffective.

More like hurt but still extremely effective or low on the depth chart or playing with players that barely belong on the team let alone in the top 6.

The guy was nothing more than a 3rd line guy that couldn't take a hit nor throw one. I don't care if he scores 50 for Tampa cause he would never have scored 50 for us, ever.

I like to completely disregard facts and reality to make myself feel better, too.

Excuse me while I go create the other 99,999 threads about what people would do for all the other possibilities of what could possibly happen regarding resigning Mantha in 2017.

#2519836 Regner: Next year could be Babcock's last

Posted by Z and D for the C on 09 May 2014 - 11:00 AM

I thought I read something that even if he wasn't coaching he still wanted to stay in Detroit, possibly moving to upper management. Am I dreaming that or is that a possibility?

#2518470 Wings will buy out Tootoo, not Franzen.

People with sense knew this

People with sense also want Franzen bought out.

#2508283 4/9 GDT - Red Wings 3 @ Pens 4 (SO). Wings clinch playoff spot!

Posted by Z and D for the C on 09 April 2014 - 09:50 PM

Nah.  Guy is always out of positioning, and his saves only look amazing as a result of that.  Kinda like Hasek, but he's nowhere near Hasek's league. Gustavsson is too wild in his style.  No wonder he gives up so many bad goals.

This. He plays like Hasek except sucks at it. He lost us the last game we played in and he lost us this one, in both game modes. He overplays pucks and is constantly out of position, I can't stand that in a goalie. I guess resting Howard was more important than winning this game, but I'm still pissed because we needed this win to stay ahead of Columbus.

#2507163 Around The League - Eastern Conference Playoff Race

Posted by Z and D for the C on 08 April 2014 - 10:43 AM

I think at this point it's a given we're going to make the playoffs. I'm more interested in whether or not we hold that 7th spot, which we're battling Columbus for. Our remaining games are pretty similar. We play Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Carolina and St Louis. Columbus plays Phoenix, Dallas, Tampa and Florida. Phoenix and Dallas are fighting for the playoffs and only one will make it, so they'll be pretty desperate so I'm hoping those are hard games for Columbus. Florida should be a win and it's hard to say for Tampa. I think they'll get at least 4 points, but not 7. I think we can beat Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Carolina but then maybe choke against St Louis, but on the other hand its the last game of the season so that could be used to our advantage if we're not clearly separated from Columbus. I'm expecting 6 points.

I just really want to play Pittsbrugh in the first round.

#2507027 Lightning sign GM Yzerman to contract extension

Posted by Z and D for the C on 07 April 2014 - 05:53 PM

Can Yzerman win something...anything...before we go anointing him the next best thing.  He's only made the playoffs twice in his tenure, hasn't won a conference championship, and hasn't ever made it to the Cup finals.  You'd think the Lightening were absolutely dominant the way people bestow praise on him.

I know all the homers love the thought of Stevie Y coming back to Detroit and being a Wing again.  I love that story too.  But what if he comes back and we're worse?  What if Holland's just that much better?  What if Stevie isn't capable of finding those late round gems (lost in all this "Holland Sucks" talk is the fact that he drafted Jurco, Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan, Marchenko, Sproul, Quellet, and Mrazek lately)?  What if Steve's only ever the thing he's been up till now, a .500 GM at the playoff level?

Not so romantic now is it?

Until he wins and proves he's a qualified candidate, I don't want him anywhere near the Detroit Red Wings General Manager's Office.

For a GM that just lost two franchise players in a very short period of time (through no fault of his own), Yzerman is doing pretty great. I know what you're saying, but I think why people here like him so much is that he has the balls to make big moves and shake things up to improve the team. And those moves are working. And the staff responsible for our incredible drafting goes way way deeper than just Ken Holland.
