#2507163 Around The League - Eastern Conference Playoff Race

Posted by Z and D for the C on 08 April 2014 - 10:43 AM

I think at this point it's a given we're going to make the playoffs. I'm more interested in whether or not we hold that 7th spot, which we're battling Columbus for. Our remaining games are pretty similar. We play Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Carolina and St Louis. Columbus plays Phoenix, Dallas, Tampa and Florida. Phoenix and Dallas are fighting for the playoffs and only one will make it, so they'll be pretty desperate so I'm hoping those are hard games for Columbus. Florida should be a win and it's hard to say for Tampa. I think they'll get at least 4 points, but not 7. I think we can beat Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Carolina but then maybe choke against St Louis, but on the other hand its the last game of the season so that could be used to our advantage if we're not clearly separated from Columbus. I'm expecting 6 points.

I just really want to play Pittsbrugh in the first round.

#2507027 Lightning sign GM Yzerman to contract extension

Posted by Z and D for the C on 07 April 2014 - 05:53 PM

Can Yzerman win something...anything...before we go anointing him the next best thing.  He's only made the playoffs twice in his tenure, hasn't won a conference championship, and hasn't ever made it to the Cup finals.  You'd think the Lightening were absolutely dominant the way people bestow praise on him.

I know all the homers love the thought of Stevie Y coming back to Detroit and being a Wing again.  I love that story too.  But what if he comes back and we're worse?  What if Holland's just that much better?  What if Stevie isn't capable of finding those late round gems (lost in all this "Holland Sucks" talk is the fact that he drafted Jurco, Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan, Marchenko, Sproul, Quellet, and Mrazek lately)?  What if Steve's only ever the thing he's been up till now, a .500 GM at the playoff level?

Not so romantic now is it?

Until he wins and proves he's a qualified candidate, I don't want him anywhere near the Detroit Red Wings General Manager's Office.

For a GM that just lost two franchise players in a very short period of time (through no fault of his own), Yzerman is doing pretty great. I know what you're saying, but I think why people here like him so much is that he has the balls to make big moves and shake things up to improve the team. And those moves are working. And the staff responsible for our incredible drafting goes way way deeper than just Ken Holland.

#2496462 Here Is A Hint For Wings To Catch Playoff [ new ]

Posted by Z and D for the C on 18 March 2014 - 12:31 PM

agree or not ...

wings has too many foward star player now ...
only 2 part they are not sucess is

1 - goalie
2 - defense

if they add 2 more defense expert can score
if they add new goalie can save

i believe they can get to final semi playoff ...

So we need better forwards, better defensemane and a better goalie? It's a bold plan, you'll make a lot of enemies, but I think it just might work.

Leave it to Chris Osgood to be picking his teeth when you're on camera after the greatest defenseman ever thanks you in his retirement speech.

Kenny would rather sign them in the offseason so he can offer them a NTC.

Kenny is probably the one who demands the player have a NTC.

Gaborik would have been nice for that price

Given our luck with injuries and his luck with injuries, he'd probably get hit by a runaway bus before he stepped foot into the Joe.

#2486706 Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Is Brett Lebda available?

...to be called Cory?

Something we're sorely lacking now.

GOOD JOB HOLLAND

His point numbers don't surprise me, but his goals sure do. Who would have thought that only 16 players would have more goals than him? If he keeps up his pace the past 10 or 15 games, scoring 40 isn't out of the question. We'll see what happens when Stamkos comes back, though.

#2468385 Blockbuster deal?

Howard is amazing for most of his career, has a bad stretch of games, and now people want his head. Unbelievable.

Bert-Dats-Z
Franzen-Helm-Alfie
Nyquist-Andy-Tats
Abby-Glend-Tootoo/Miller

Cant be stopped. Skill, speed, playmaking, scoring, in the top 3 lines. And then a rock solid 4th. Let weiss recover. With everyone healthy we actually have a pretty deep roster.

Isn't something that we've learned over the past 5 years is that just because it looks good on paper (which is even debatable) doesn't mean that it will perform.

YES FINALLY WE BEAT A TEAM...BUT THEY'RE 13TH IN THE WEST....and we couldn't do it in regulation...

Team 2 would certainly score more goals.

Now I'm not a hockey genius, but if you score more goals, you win right?

Franzen is a huge diver. Since when is this new?

I hope we use our buyout on this failure of a hockey player. Frankly I'd rather be rid of him more than Cleary.

And that's hard to do.
