#2458372 Quincey

I can't help but wonder how much of this stems from not having Scotty Bowman watching the games and giving his two cents.

It's certainly been working for Chicago.

#2458348 10 former players sue NHL for concussions

Posted by T.Low on 26 November 2013 - 07:04 PM

But one major problem that I see for the future of the game is that the latest testing shows people are getting concussed at a low level, low enough so they don't necessarily know they're concussed. Two of these low level concussions is enough to cause damage including CTE.

Former Pittsburgh Steeler Ctr., Mike Webster had such severe brain damage that he was homeless after retiring from football. After his death his brain showed major CTE. At the time it was a bit of a surprise because it was thought that only speed positions like RB, WR, KR, and DB would have this issue, not linemen that took lots of lower impact hits, but on a very repetitive basis.

Even soccer players are getting it from headers

If the game is to survive, there has to be major technique changes in hitting, and major equipment changes.

As for thoughts that players knew what they were getting into because hockey is a violent game, nobody imagined they'd be mentally ill or in wheelchairs unable to feed themselves or speak.

What they are finding out now is just the tip of the iceberg.

#2458233 I'd like to talk about this off-season/next season

Posted by T.Low on 26 November 2013 - 02:20 AM

I'd like to see:
Kindl/Almqvist (fight for ice time and a spot)
I think Mantha is the exception.  He's a giant power forward who can dangle and score.  He should be on the top line with Z and Dats and eat the Calder trophy for breakfast, lunch and supper.  Keep Helm on the 2nd line cause he's taking it and owning it.  Weiss can be a slightly expensive shutdown guy until his scoring touch comes back, which it should with wingers like Franzen and Jurco, who I expect good things from at the NHL level.  I want to see that 4th line annoy and destroy.  I don't care if they get a goal all year, which I'm sure they would, but regardless I just want them to hit everything.  Ouellet and Sproul should be on the team next season with Marchenko next in line from what I hear.
If no free agent that is the likes of Vanek or someone of that caliber wants to sign, that team above could compete for the Cup.

That's a lot of rookies.

#2456965 The Dan Cleary Hate Zone

Sorry, I just can't hate on Dan Cleary after everything he's done for this organization. Complain maybe, but not hate.

#2456943 What I'm thankful for...

Nyquist is, isn't he? I mean not like mule or Sedins, but...enough to make it a perfect nickname, yeah?

He plays too much like a ninja and looks enough like a Ginga...so, yeah, he's our awesome Ginga Ninja.

Just watched his post game interview: What a class act. He is pure class and bad ass.

I am thankful my father turned down a promotion which would have involved a move from Detroit to Pittsburgh when I was a kid.

#2456714 ****(Stuff) no one says about the Wings

Something everyone's thinking but no one is saying - Who's buying all the tickets and then not showing up?

"While he was here, Hudler never gave a s*** about having clean stairs"

"Doh fahgetta stairs, bahddy"

And of course, that's the answer to all our problems!:, Cleary would be perfect at the front desk answering the phone . "Coach, its for you".

#2456633 What is Samuelsson's role?

Posted by T.Low on 22 November 2013 - 12:00 PM

Sammy was a good acquisition at the time. It certainly seems that two years and $2m/per would have made better sense. Or even 1yr.

There was no adjustment phase, as he's been a wing before obviously and therefore knows the systems.

A right-handed shot we needed for the power play point.

Swede background with Canadian light edge.

He's actually done well this year. I used to worry every time he got the puck, but now he is much more composed and makes pretty good passes and pretty good decisions. Certainly has more patience with the puck than Tafar for example.

He is a versatile depth signing. He can play third line grinder, be plugged into the second or even first-line in a pinch, and be plugged into fourth line minutes.

It wasn't a bad acquisition, it was just the contract itself that was poor.

#2455871 Respect Babcock and Holland

Posted by T.Low on 20 November 2013 - 07:38 PM

You can respect someone while still questioning there job performance.

It's because I respect them so much that I am holding them accountable, I'm holding their feet to the fire.
We haven't seen a horrible run like this in almost 25 years. You've got to expect some backlash from the faithful.
Our team stands at a precipice: we can hurl ourselves into the void and have confidence to make the bold moves which include adding the right youth, and making the one or two trades that put us right back into the elit; Or we can be timid and afraid to make these moves, and hold on too long to players who gave us their all and have nothing left to giver, and watch this team fall out of contention for years to come.

You are right: we are not that far from Cup contention. But you are wrong if you don't see how easily we can deviate from that direction by holding on to long to mediocre depth veterans that have nothing left to give

We need to recall Blashill and send Babcock down. We got to put our best coach behind the bench.
