#2451301 Marty the Marmot mascot attacked during WHL game

Posted by T.Low on 06 November 2013 - 10:59 AM

looks to me like the guy was trying too hard to join in the fun and didn't think through the consequences of landing the Marmot on his back on the ice.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions that weren't thought thru.

Marty should find out where the jackass works and go tackle him at his job. Where the hell is PETA when you need them.

PETA is too busy burning down my ex-girlfriends lab where she is testing to see which is healthier for a horses pulmonary system: straw bedding or hay bedding. PETA sucks.

I appreciate the sentiment but Hakan Andersson didn't scout/find Nick Lidstrom.  It was the European scout before Hakan named Christer Rockstrom.

Just passing along what I heard on the Doug MacLean interview on the radio when the wings were in Vancouver the other day regarding the size and success issue.

Have your husband call me so we can get together and complain about our fact checking wives ruining our stories.

According to Doug McLean, Hakan Andersson paced back and forth nervously as he waited for Red Wings management to arrive at the rink. He knew they'd be very upset that he brought them all the way overseas to look at a defenseman that was way undersized. He knew they'd shake their head and say he was way too scrawny. He could only hope that this scrawny little defensmen named Nick Lidstrom had his typical incredible game while they were here to watch. And history was made..

It sure was a fortunate coincidence for Ericsson that his injury got bad enough that he was out of the lineup on the very day his first child was born.  So while he must be in a lot of pain from a shoulder injury no one saw happen, the upside is he gets to spend a few weeks with his new baby and the Wings get some roster space from him going on LTIR right as Helm comes back. All very fortunate coincidences I guess.  :P

Spoken like a man who hasn't had a recent new born.

#2449227 It might be Illich, not Holland

Posted by T.Low on 31 October 2013 - 02:58 AM

Today I got to listen to a lot of Red Wings talk on Vancouver's team 1040

Doug McLean talked about his time in Detroit as assistant GM to Brian Murray. He said it was an amazing organization to be a part of. He said his first day on the job was the day after Fedorov defected. Amazing times for sure.

But he said two things of significance relevant to the way Holland does business.

McLean and Murray were called down to the Fox theater to see Mike Illitch. The security guard said to them, " you're going up to the 10th floor to see Mr. Ilitch. If you come back down, you will be a changed person for the rest of your life."

McLean said that he and Murray we're about to trade Jimmy Carson for Paul Coffey and Ilitch really grilled them about it. Illitch loved Carson and did not want to see him go.

The second thing he said was that Illitch fired Murray on a Friday afternoon, and Murray came out and told McLean he was fired also.

Monday morning 8 AM Illitch called McLean and said you were fired Friday afternoon. And McLean said yeah I know. Ilitch said you still have one year left on your deal. If you don't get another job by then, I'll give you another job.

Illitch is the problem. He treats these guys like family and hates to see any of them go!

I'll be there. It's been a while. Last time I was there a little kid had a sign that read "Igor, Pasha, Pride of Russia" and Datsyuk flipped a puck over the glass to him.

Here's a novel idea change the system, because with this team the puck possession system just doesn't work. The team just doesn't have the players to rely on possessing the puck for long stretches, time to admit that fact and adapt. No more time for denial all denial gets you is run into the ground by subpar injured teams like the rangers.

You mean we still play puck possession?  Hmm, didn't recognize it...

#2447209 Edler Suspension Aftermath.

Posted by T.Low on 23 October 2013 - 12:15 PM

In my opinion, no he did not target the head.

The problem is, Edlers most successful option is to get there first and block Hertls path to the puck. But of course Hertl is leading with his head so any contact could very well be head contact

If Edler would have gone straight for the puck, then he would have taken the brunt of the impact. I can't see that play being taught any other way.

This is why it will be virtually impossible to get head contact out of the game. Head shots maybe. Head contact, No way.

If Franzen had as much hutzpah as Elaine, he'd be a perennial 40 goal gal

What legit top line Winger was that again, I have such a hard time keeping them all straight since there was so many of them this off season that were available.

You know, that top line winger he should've gotten!

I think fourth line while he's getting his game conditioning up.

#2446463 Brendan Smith

Posted by T.Low on 20 October 2013 - 11:01 AM

I still think our best bet is to make him a forward.

Package a forward and whatever For a good D man and move Smith upfront ah la Brett Burns.

A couple years down the road you've got Smith Andy Mantha or Smith Helm Mantha

He's got the tools and the skills and enough speed, he's just mis- cast as a defenseman.
