#2453835 Filppula to Tampa 5 yr $5 million

Since when have the Wings played puck possession?

ZDB plays it. The rest of the team plays gnip gnop: While you're gnipping, they're gnopping!

Bertuzzi is effective up there. That may defy logic to some people solve he's "old and slow" but it is what it is. Our top line is set.

In his case it's because he keeps the puck moving fast with his great passing or he's protecting it like a mama bear, which all mostly nullifies his lack of speed.
The guy has the incredible vision, instincts, and skills to line w 13 & 40 as opposed to Abby who just quite didn't have enough .

Plus he adds a major bit of gruff to that line: guys are still intimidated by the old bear.

Tatar is scratched for tomorrow.  Cleary is back in....

No one has supported Babcock and Holland more than me, but its starting to piss me off.

#2453489 An honest question about Nyquist

You gotta think its stressing out Babcock big time Mrs Babcock must be sick of hearing Hollands name being cursed at the dinner table.

On the other hand, I'll bet Holland has an awesome car collection.

When Weiss returns slot him into the 3rd line between nyquist and Tatar until AllStar break to get the system down. Could prove to be a great third line during that period, then we have three pretty good lines for a change.

#2452263 What would you do?...

Posted by T.Low on 09 November 2013 - 01:05 PM

I honestly think our entire issue would be solved if we had another high quality hard working top 6 winger to play on the second line with Weiss and Alfie. Franzen isn't that guy. Nyquist could be. Or we could trade for someone. We just don't have enough high quality top 6 players in our top 6.

Agreed. He COULD be...but no.

I do think we need a top Puck moving Dman to really put us into serious contention.

Was it Talon who recently said "Our better players need to be better or we'll get better players" ?

I take objection to that. I am a hell of a lot of fun.

t)…  He will be a full time Wing prior to the trade deadline.  Have faith in Goose Nyquistfan!

Dude is a real Nyquistafarian. I hope to be one real soon, too.

#2451274 Marty the Marmot mascot attacked during WHL game

Marty should find out where the jackass works and go tackle him at his job. Where the hell is PETA when you need them.

PETA is too busy burning down my ex-girlfriends lab where she is testing to see which is healthier for a horses pulmonary system: straw bedding or hay bedding. PETA sucks.

#2450669 Smith to IR, Almqvist called up

I appreciate the sentiment but Hakan Andersson didn't scout/find Nick Lidstrom.  It was the European scout before Hakan named Christer Rockstrom.

Just passing along what I heard on the Doug MacLean interview on the radio when the wings were in Vancouver the other day regarding the size and success issue.

Have your husband call me so we can get together and complain about our fact checking wives ruining our stories.

According to Doug McLean, Hakan Andersson paced back and forth nervously as he waited for Red Wings management to arrive at the rink. He knew they'd be very upset that he brought them all the way overseas to look at a defenseman that was way undersized. He knew they'd shake their head and say he was way too scrawny. He could only hope that this scrawny little defensmen named Nick Lidstrom had his typical incredible game while they were here to watch. And history was made..

#2450628 11/2 GDT: Red Wings 5 at Oilers 0

Posted by T.Low on 03 November 2013 - 05:18 PM

It sure was a fortunate coincidence for Ericsson that his injury got bad enough that he was out of the lineup on the very day his first child was born.  So while he must be in a lot of pain from a shoulder injury no one saw happen, the upside is he gets to spend a few weeks with his new baby and the Wings get some roster space from him going on LTIR right as Helm comes back. All very fortunate coincidences I guess.  :P

Spoken like a man who hasn't had a recent new born.

I'll be there. It's been a while. Last time I was there a little kid had a sign that read "Igor, Pasha, Pride of Russia" and Datsyuk flipped a puck over the glass to him.

Here's a novel idea change the system, because with this team the puck possession system just doesn't work. The team just doesn't have the players to rely on possessing the puck for long stretches, time to admit that fact and adapt. No more time for denial all denial gets you is run into the ground by subpar injured teams like the rangers.

You mean we still play puck possession?  Hmm, didn't recognize it...

#2447209 Edler Suspension Aftermath.

Posted by T.Low on 23 October 2013 - 12:15 PM

In my opinion, no he did not target the head.

The problem is, Edlers most successful option is to get there first and block Hertls path to the puck. But of course Hertl is leading with his head so any contact could very well be head contact

If Edler would have gone straight for the puck, then he would have taken the brunt of the impact. I can't see that play being taught any other way.

This is why it will be virtually impossible to get head contact out of the game. Head shots maybe. Head contact, No way.
