#2617037 2015 Draft

Posted by Internet.Unknown on 27 June 2015 - 04:12 PM

lol waste of a pick .. besides the russian kid this draft for me anyways has been a waste

Wait until the Wings trade one of these picks for a veteran at the deadline. You'll care then.

#2616304 Yzerman wins GM of Year (& other awards discussion)

So when Lidstrom was winning Norris trophies, we loved the award. Now that Karlsson wins, the trophy is crap.

Am I following this thread correctly?

#2615500 Sean Avery - Transition Season

Posted by Internet.Unknown on 20 June 2015 - 04:27 PM

Most of us look forward to retiring, but most players don't get to leave on their own terms.  They're just not re-signed.  They have to go to the minor leagues or go on to something else with no training.  It has to be tough.  I had to quit the job I'd had for 15 years due to health, and it felt like I'd failed.  I can't imagine how it must be for them.

On a lighter note, did anyone see "Sean Avery- Transition" and remember that he used to work at Vogue and think, "Oh, man, what is he up to now?"

Totally assumed Sean would be transitioning to Caitlin Avery.

and why would Detroit want that 7M/year pylon?

For sightings of his wife maybe?

#2613243 Which Sweater Do RWs Retire First - Feds or Ozzy?

Posted by Internet.Unknown on 05 June 2015 - 10:14 AM

Not necessarily ... I know here in montreal they retired a lot of players when they were old and in some cases sadly died (there idiots here)

I gotta thinkmaybe mike illitch' is sadly still pissed he left as some wings fans appear to be ... #3 all time with 163 pts in the playoffs , 3 cups in 13 seasons 954 regular season pts in detroit , hart trophy winner and Selke , one of best all time russian players in the nhl ... If that doesn't get you in anymore I don't know what does

If it's simply playing a full career with one team might as well retire holmstroms jersey since he won 4 cups

Anyways maybe one day when federov will be on his deathbed as an 87 yr old man

Fedorov will live to 91, duh.

#2611420 The return of The Mule?

Posted by Internet.Unknown on 29 May 2015 - 03:43 PM

Kipwinger -

This is a hockey website, where people talk about hockey. If Johan Franzen isn't doing his job, the hockey fans on this hockey website may use hockey language to express themselves. It may be vulgar - but its nothing personal.

Although it may look hypocritical, you can't fault the fans for eventually supporting him (on a personal level) considering what's currently happening to athletes who suffer from chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Franzen's situation is more important than hockey, and I think the people who realize that have changed tune quite a bit.

That being said - if the doctors say Franzen can go, its ultimately his decision to return to the ice. If he does, people maintain the right to criticize him if he isn't playing well. That's what $43,500,000 gets you.

I understand shouting at the TV in the privacy of your home when a player doesn't perform. Anything goes.

I understand ranting among friends in a private setting when a player doesn't perform. Anything goes.

Taking the time to compose and post a message calling a player a "homosexual" on a message board where strangers, children, and quite possibly actual homosexuals can visit is oafish and dull. Use your adult words. Act like a decent human being. Slurs are best left to middle school boys who think using "naughty" words makes them cool.

#2610058 Things you would like to see for 2015-16 Season

Posted by Internet.Unknown on 25 May 2015 - 05:10 PM

I don't get why you would think that Glendening would "follow Babs"... He's under contract with the Detroit Red Wings. He can't just decide to pack up his gear and move to Toronto, nor would he even if he could. There has been a lot of joking about trading Glendening to Toronto for Kessel or a 1st round pick or whatever because of how much Babcock loves him but he isn't going anywhere. I'm sure Holland and Blashill appreciate Glendening's game just as much as Babcock. He's here to stay and for good reason, he's a great 4th line shut down center.

This all day.

Glendenning should be part of the Wings' future. His absence for five minutes of the playoffs turned the entire series around.

#2609331 Things you would like to see for 2015-16 Season

We've missed the wiz train so many times now I'm starting to think it'll never happen. Seems like he's perpetually available though, at no fault of his own. Not counting this Duck stint.

Hasn't the Wiz criticized the Wings for lowballing players? I thought he and Kessler were two Michigan players who don't want to play for the home team.

#2609246 Coaching Search Thread a.k.a. the Jeff Blashill Thread

Posted by Internet.Unknown on 20 May 2015 - 09:44 PM

How do you know? Maybe the wings will be a top tier team with a new coach. Babs Haas some questionable line combos, and his refusal to demote Ericsson after so many terrible mistakes every game was atrocious. How come Smith got no pp time, how come Weiss could get 3 points in a game and lose 2 minutes ice time next game? This team needs an offensive rh defenseman. Otherwise it's actually a good team that Babcock couldn't motivate to even start games on time or play a full 60 minutes

I wish I could be so optimistic.

Babcock was right. Where is the next franchise player in this organization? Mantha? He hasn't lived up to the hype this season. Maybe he will later, but nothing is certain yet. Larkin? He's still a college player. Even if he turns out to be the Wings' next superstar, he's YEARS away from fulfilling it. Look how long it took Yzerman to win.

Fans talk about the Wings' forward prospects and young players as if all of them are can't miss future all-stars.

#Pulcannon

Scores a ton in the minors but won't find the same kind of time or space in the NHL. Will he score like Brett Hull or Kirk Maltby in the bigs?

Nyquist

Was this season his sophomore slump? Gus scored fewer goals in more games while attracting a lot more attention from the opposition. Coincidence or could the small forward have hit his ceiling already?

Jurco

So far a complete dud. People go on and on about his potential (why, I don't know, his size maybe?) but it has yet to materialize on the ice in game. He's on a trajectory to become the next Brendan Smith or worse.

Tatar

Tots is the "youngster" I'm least concerned about. High compete level, seems to really want to win and score. Still, how many undersized forwards can a team ice and remain competitive?

Mantha

See above. Mediocre first season. Injured early, yes, but he hasn't yet dominated since returning. How long will it take for his supposed "can't miss" player that every team wanted in a trade starts living up to the hype?

Larkin

Sill lives in a dorm paid for by his parents. This is the next franchise superstar? It's gonna be a while.

AA

Honestly don't know enough about him to comment.

As for the defense, Marchenko, Sproul, Jensen, XO, and Riley's brother (thanks, Kip) aren't all going to become impact players. Thankfully it looks like DD will be. Too bad the next best defenseman on the team is 35.

Again, I wish I could be so optimistic. I hope every one of the Wings' prospects turns into a franchise player and the team has to start shedding stars because of contract space. What a problem to have! But it won't happen. It can't. The odds and history don't support it.

#2609239 It's Official: Babcock to coach Maple Leafs

Thats what's the most annoying. Him leaving is one thing, it sucks that he is leaving to a divisional rival that is going to be battling with us for a playoff spot. Luckily Buffalo and Florida suck lol.

I sense a renewed rivalry. That's probably the real silver lining here in losing Babcock. Maybe Wings/Leafs will turn into something special.

#2609234 It's Official: Babcock to coach Maple Leafs

Enjoy playing golf at playoff time Babs.

Won't happen.

People, not just you, can be such homers. Yes, we're supposed to hate the rival Leafs, but don't lose objectivity. The Leafs will make the playoffs next year and probably every year Babcock is the team's coach. I don't predict a Cup win anytime soon, but Toronto has some good players, a weekend friendly schedule (home almost every Saturday night), and a coach that can get mediocre teams to over perform.

Here's a thought: call him Larkin.

#2608105 Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams

Posted by Internet.Unknown on 16 May 2015 - 10:25 AM

I was just coming to post this.  It's Lebron 2.0.  What a primadonna.  I'm soooooo tired of this crap.  Just sign af****** contract or don't, like every other person (GM, coach, or player) does in the NHL.

Hyperbole much? The Decision was a 75 minute television special on ESPN starring a player who hadn't yet won anything in the league. C'mon. We all want the Babcock issue resolved, but it's nothing like circus surrounding and promoted by Lebron James in 2010.

#2606693 At What Point Does Holland Deserve Blame?

Posted by Internet.Unknown on 08 May 2015 - 09:57 AM

So? Every owner tells his GM to win. No surprise here. But is being in the top 53% good enough? I wonder if back 40 years ago Mr I decided I just want to have the 20th biggest pizza chain in the world. or did he decide to be the biggest? Hmmm i wonder which it was...... On top of that, do you honestly believe there is anything Holland could do right now to get fired? Nope. he is a lifer. If he decided to rebuild, he would still be here as the GM.

With all do respect, Mr. I doesn't do much anymore due to his age and health. The GM's are also both club presidents, they are fully in charge of each team.

Since the (stupid) salary cap, no team but the Wings has made the playoffs every season. Now add like another 15 years to that streak.

So, yes, it's remarkable being in the top 53% for 24 years straight.

I'm not saying making the playoffs is enough. The Wings should strive for more and we fans certainly want more. But this 53% argument is misleading mantra repeated by those who are trying to downplay the genuine and unquestionable significance of the streak.
