#2679492 The Holiday tradition: 2016 Draft thoughts.....

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on Yesterday, 03:10 PM

Even IF we drafted Jones or Chychrun (lets focus on Chychrun), you really think the RED WINGS would have let them join the NHL next year? They forced themselves with Larkin because Datsyuk was leaving and thankfully it worked out because Larkin ended up being really good. Larkin is a once in a blue moon situation.

You're just arguing for the sake of arguing. Don't kid yourself thinking that the number 16th pick would have been in a Red Wings jersey next year lol. We all know he would have been in GR. Most teams would have probably started Svechnikov this year but the Red Wings are likely to keep him down in GR for the next two years. And he's not even a defenseman (who typically take longer to develop)

If Cholowski does really well in college hockey he could end up here sooner rather than later. College programs are really good development processes anyways.

Like it or not, the Red Wings defense prospect pool just got thicker. It's been their goal all year heading into the draft and they weren't going to change that. They also addressed a secondary need by signing a bigger players.

He saved me the response.  Thanks Kickazz!

This is a bad draft for the RW's. True none of us know how any player is going to turn out, neither do the RW's. Every draft in every sport is nothing more than an educated guess. When a team passes over guys ranked in the top 20 for a guy ranked in the mid 30's those are not educated guesses. It isn't about player A or player B or player C. it is about being smart and getting player A AND player B AND player C. 5-6 years from now Cholowski could become a good player. While we are waiting for that how many 20 goal seasons will Gauthier have? How about Jones? Rustabov? Some of the others available when we picked will have 200+ NHL games played before Cholowski ever plays a pro game.

And where are you pulling 5-6 years from?  You have no clue.  4 years is probably the max, and possibly as few as 2 years depending on his development.  Kids are coming straight from college more and more often.  Larkin, Dekeyser came straight from college.  Cholowski was the fastest rising prospect in this year's draft.   He already has good size for an 18-year-old, and will add on within a year or two.  You're off your rocker if you think Gauthier, Jones, or Rubtsov will jump right into the NHL.  They'll more than likely need at least a season or two of development, maybe even 3.  They're not locks to be anything above top 6 players.

"Kieffer Bellows is a pure shooter with question marks about the rest of his game. Max Jones is a nasty left winger with a size/speed combination and perhaps a 50-50 shot at either becoming a top-six power forward -- a better-skating version of the Scott Hartnell mold -- or else having a career as a role player somewhere in the range of the careers of former first-round picks Raffi Torres, Ben Eager or current Washington Capitals winger Tom Wilson. A lot of NHL scouts soured on Julien Gauthier's game as the 2015-16 season progressed. Questions started to fly about his adaptability to the NHL despite being a good finisher with a huge frame and excellent strength (although not very consistent in applying it)."

A little intel on Jordan Sambrook:

Smooth-skating two-way defenceman who displays solid creativity and offensive instincts, as well as a strong defensive game. Can play lengthy shifts due to his conservative style without the puck, and can be relied upon in all situations. Mobile with and without the puck, and could even become a bit quicker. His size allows him to be physically assertive and protect the puck well. All-in-all, a defenceman who has the potential to become a well-rounded all-around player that can log a lot of ice-time. #2679316 Detroit trades Datsyuk to Arizona

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on Yesterday, 12:52 AM

Sigh, people not giving holland credit, do people really think ARZ called him and said "errrr myyyy goodddd, we need chychru.... Whatever you want...!!!"

No a vet GM, played his cards right didn't try to ask for too much and our team as of today is in a better position because of it.... You don't fluke into this streak and his job...

My new dream list now, is move a pick for Stamkos rights, and sign him before Tampa can even make a pitch and hear how much they hate the person that was their savior...

Well, that may be the case as Yzerman has said that he will consider doing a sign and trade with Stamkos, giving him 8 years instead of the 7 he'd get from another team and getting an asset back for him.

It's not all about Stamkos though.

There's Okposo, Eriksson, Ladd, Backes, Lucic, Radulov etc.

Seriously, if we lose on Stamkos, we can add two solid forwards and possibly trade for a top tier d-man.  Either way, we're in a good position heading in to July 1.

Ken Holland said the focus with his new found cap space will be replacing Pavel Datsyuk. Looking for an impact forward.

BOOM! Bring Stamkos here baby! Trade for Shattenkirk, too!

So...If Stamkos does sign with Detroit...Does he get #91?

I think if he's attached to that number, you throw that in there as a possibility for him when coming here.  He's that caliber of a player.

I'm calling Blues in 6

#2674578 Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 29 April 2016 - 11:45 PM

You really expect Fedorov, who is the GM of Radulov's current team, and who is trying to re-sign him  for his club, would help Detroit sign him instead?

I don't think that's what he meant.  Fedorov has ties to Detroit.  Of course, he wants him back on his club, but if Radulov decides to leave for the NHL (which he already has publicly stated), then Fedorov might be instrumental in giving Holland strong feedback on the kind of player he has become in the KHL and what kind of career he can have in the NHL at this point.

#2669668 ECQF Game 2 Post-GDT: at Tampa Bay 5, Red Wings 2

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 15 April 2016 - 09:26 PM

Anyone else get just a tad bit pissed when they started playing Small Town Girl while they were deciding the penalties?  Some things are just too much, and THAT... that is our victory song you bag of d's.

There's some truth to Abby but he isn't dishing out anymore than we've been taking, until that last dogpile when he was pummeling that guy.

Yes but that guy (Blunden) decided to jump on his back like a little ******, Abby gave him exactly what he had coming to him.

I really felt like they should've had game 1. Never felt like they were really in game 2. Maybe the hotter heads prevailing at the end will light a fire. While I don't hang the losses solely on Howard like others, I do agree that Mrazek should start game 3. Smith should be in as well. Andersson should sit for Jurco.

The priorities for the next game are to get Mrazek in for Howard and Mantha in for Andersson.  We were 10 for 23 on the PP with Mantha down the stretch.... terrible benching by Blashill for Andersson, Andersson is redundant and mediocre at best.  I would also bench Nyquist or Tatar for Jurco. Move AA up into the top 6.

#2616842 2015 Draft

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 26 June 2015 - 10:38 PM

Just forget the grammar guys.... why do you care?  It's a forum... on hockey... from people who are in different parts of the world where English might not be the first language.  And again, it's a forum.... people here aren't writing, nor do they care to write, for Grammar Nazi magazine.  Let's talk hockey.  I find the forum for this years draft to be lacking seriously.  Where in the hell is the excitement, speculation, and rumors?

Holland is going to hard after Green in UFA....  Wings also have so much forward depth they could use some prospects in a trade to get a top D.  And if they don't, this team is going to be exciting to watch (more than it is now) with a lines like these:

Svechnikov - Larkin - Mantha

Athanasiou - Turgeon - Pulkkinen

I know, there will be current players like Tatar and Nyquist that will factor into these lines, but it's still exciting to think about.  Now stop being so cranky and discuss the draft!

I'd take him in a heartbeat....

#2612959 Report: Jeff Petry and Munn-tree-all ruin 2015 free agency

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 02 June 2015 - 10:27 PM

I have a feeling that if Kenny goes to the UFA for a d-man.... it'll probably end up being Franson.  He's under-performed a little the last couple of seasons (especially in Nashville) and may not command as much as Green.  Who knows what might happen though.  Kenny will probably just stick with the kids anyway.

#2577654 Red Wings acquire Marek Zidlicky from NJ for Cond. 2016 3rd Round Pick

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 02 March 2015 - 02:23 PM

Yeah Marchenko is going to head down and possibly be recalled for after the restricted roster period ends.....  Zidlicky will play on the bottom pair, and on the 2nd power play unit.
