#2577725 Official 2015 NHL Trade Deadline Thread

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on Today, 04:16 PM

Wiz is a ******, wouldn't want him on the team anyway... he was vocal when last signed about his distaste for Detroit, with NO good reason.  I'll happily take Zidlicky over him and then let the kids have a better chance of coming up next season.  We have the offseason to make a big defensive move.  Our defense has played pretty decently this season and just got a little better and a little more experienced with Zids.

#2577654 Red Wings acquire Marek Zidlicky from NJ for Cond. 2016 3rd Round Pick

Yeah Marchenko is going to head down and possibly be recalled for after the restricted roster period ends.....  Zidlicky will play on the bottom pair, and on the 2nd power play unit.

you guys think cole will resign?

And what do you guys think the new forward lines look like with cole?

I think Cole will re-sign, but it may come down to Franzen's health.  If Franzen is healthy and comes back next season, I see it making Cole semi-expendable (to the Wings), because they'll be looking at Mantha/Athanasiou to come up so space will be needed for them.  Not to mention Pulkkinen getting a regular spot out the gate.  It'll be tough, but we'll see - always nice to have some veteran leadership and experience on a team that is getting younger.

I think Cole will land on the 2nd line:

Tatar - Datsyuk - Abdelkader

Nyquist - Sheahan - Cole

Weiss - Glendening - Pulkkinen

Miller - Andersson - Jurco

Obviously once Zetterberg comes back, he pushes the Centers down and when Helm returns, it's tough, but I'd say they'd slot him in on the 3rd line and push Weiss down.  You'll probably see Andersson and Jurco benched/in GR. That's just my take on it.

#2533326 Tatar Signs 3 Year Deal $2.75 mill AAV

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 29 July 2014 - 08:35 PM

According to that Czech article someone posted in another thread his choices were 2, 3, and 5.

Well three puts him right into his prime, and if he were to get low-balled, he has an arbitrator to fall back on.  I see the appeal of a 3 year deal.  This signing is a solid one in my book as I think Tatar will turn out to be very consistent and solid for the team.

I believe he is a key player on this squad.  He brings so much energy each night, and can score from multiple spots.  He isn't afraid to go to the hard spots and is good in low.  He has top speed and a knack for making key plays.  Good signing.

#2532023 Red Wings new assistant coaches

I feel so bad for whichever new assistant coach ends up with the defense. Talk about a near impossible task.

It's not the best, but it's not as bad as you make it out to be.

out of curiosity, does anyone know what he did as assistant in pitt (powerplay, defense, etc)??

Looks like he was primarily involved with the Forwards and Penalty Kill Units.

Maybe this opens the door for Bylsma to come in as the second assistant.. that'd be interesting.

#2529097 Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 01 July 2014 - 08:06 PM

Weiss didn't pass, Alfie didn't pass. Datsyuk resigned, Kronwall resigned. What do you want? We can't sign everyone. There are 29 other teams that are trying to get better just like we are. Do you want us to overpay someone just to say we signed them then to be stuck with a horrible cap hit for someone who isn't worth it 4-5 years down the road when we need to resign a bunch of our young guys?

We are building for the next 8-12 years not the next 2. People can't get that through their heads.

Yep , and in these next two years, the future beyond would have benefitted from giving Sproul and/or Ouellet a shot instead of a terrible defenseman making too much money.

Guys, it's only a 2 year deal. If we signed someone as a FA, we'd have to pay more and for a longer term. For a defenceman who plays 20 minutes a night, it's a good contract. Quincey would have got more if he hit the open market.

It's irrelevant how much he'd get on the open market. He is terrible, we'd be better off with Sproul or Ouellet.

Why couldn't we get rid of Holland and promote Nill when we had the chance... Sigh.

I hate to break it those who are thinking it, but the Wings are not getting Spezza.

Better get used to it.  Those guys aren't going to get any healthier as their careers go on.

You're speaking as if it's an absolute.... Lidstrom was an iron man until the end, missing very few games - that's just one example that comes to mind.  Jagr played 82 games last season....   You're statement while sometimes true, is not always true.  You brushed right over my point that Boyle has not played less than 75 games in a season since before 08/09.

Loading your team up with aging vets, and playing them a ton of minutes, INCREASES the likelihood of injury.  It doesn't decrease it.

I think Ken Holland is the only person on earth who thinks that injuries are the product of magic and not wear and tear.

The only aging vet on that list is Boyle, and he's been surprisingly resilient (hasn't played less than 75 games since before the 08/09 season.  They have kids that are ready for spot duty here and there, so they could supplement toward the end of the season to give the vets a break (in this scenario - Boyle).

Without signing anyone he'd have to beat out Jurco. Also, Alfie will probably sign and we'll have this. I think it's pretty certain Mantha will start in GR.

Z-D-Alfie

Franzen-Weiss-Nyquist

Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco

Miller-Helm-Abby

Glendening

I wouldn't say it's a certainty, he has a good chance to beat out someone, especially with how good he is.  I'm happy with Jurco, but he needs to get the minutes necessary and he is the last one in that lineup that can be sent down.

What could Boyle teach Smith that Kronwall can't?  Kronwall is the better player.  He's had more success.  Plays a gritty/offensive game (the way we'd like Smith to play).  And he's a lefty, like Smith.  Boyle and Smith have very little in common aside from the fact that neither are likely to score 20 pts. for the Red Wings next year (sorry, I had to).

Like I've said before, you can justify it however you like, but adding mediocre players to a mediocre team just leaves you mediocre.

Okay instead of just being negative in response, why not offer up what you think they should do?

Boyle isn't mediocre, even at 38.  He had an off-year last year and still posted 36 points.  He is a known commodity.  Niskanen is not (not saying I wouldn't like Niskanen), but I can see the inherent risk in bringing him in for 7 years at 6 per.  Whereas bringing in Boyle for 2 around 5 million is much less of a risk.   Ehroff is another strong candidate but who knows what he'll ask for and what kind of term he'll want.  They are also gunning for a righty, so that makes things a little tougher to sort out.  Basically gives you Niskanen, Boyle, and Gilbert as the top right handed candidates.  I'm not so sure that Gilbert fits the top 4 d-man mold, but I could be wrong, I'm not super familiar with his style of play.  In the end, your assessment of Boyle is far off base, and like any veteran, he can teach the younger guys (like ANY veteran can) if they feel so inclined.  It's not a discredit to Kronwall, just an additional guy to play off of and get experience from.  You're entitled to your opinion, but when the facts say otherwise, it's hard to see things the same way.  We'll see.

i still have a feeling that Kenny has a trade up his sleeve  :withstupid:

Honestly, the TSN guys are saying that Holland has had serious discussions with Buffalo re Tyler Myers.  24 years old, right handed shot, 6'8".  I think he'd fit in well here.
