#2424640 Tim Thomas watch 2013

Calling it, he'll go to Philly.

#2379194 Could Kenny be working on something HUGE?

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 03 April 2013 - 09:55 AM

Yeah... Ovi is slated to make $9,538,462 annually through 2020-21

Somehow I don't see Holland trying to make that deal, since we've never been about super-bloated contracts.  And I'm completely fine with that.

What irritates me the most is that standing pat is fine if you've got a good team, but when your team has been woefully inadequate for the last four years, how do you justify doing nothing?  Holland says "we like our team".  I respond...why?  They've continuously gotten worse and proved nothing when it matters.

What's to like?  They aren't as bad as Calgary or Columbus?

Aren't we supposed to aim a little higher than that in "Hockeytown"?

I think it's been rebranded to "Little Caesartown"

#2367979 4 Forwards that are/may be available, that help us:

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 12 March 2013 - 11:24 AM

Stafford of course would be the best option and Holland has a strong relationship with Regier.  I wouldn't mind Kulemin as well, seeing if he'd form good chemistry with Datsyuk.  I like the idea of Dubinsky, but only if we replaced Abdelkader with him.  Not like Hornqvist due to his lack of size.

#2367975 Stafford available.......

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 12 March 2013 - 11:19 AM

As stated before, I would bring Stafford here and one of Regehr/Leopold.  It is a no-brainer.  A defensive defenseman and a right handed shooter.

#2358251 Holland looking around

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 20 February 2013 - 12:01 PM

I personally am indifferent about Bouwmeester coming here.  I'm not sure how I feel about it, but at this point, will it truly hurt the team?  He's playing stronger this year than he has in the past few and I don't think it's a stretch to think it's because of new coaching.

I also feel that Babchuk hasn't been given a fair shake yet and has some pretty solid upside.  He put together a good season in Carolina and in Calgary each, but then seems to get the stick after for some reason.  He's a d-man who has good size, can put the puck in the net, and his a righty.  Why not go for a low-risk, high-reward type situation (as discussed above).

Who else might Holland target?  Who fits the secondary scoring help?

Defensemen with expiring contracts:

 - Visnovsky (36)

 - Hainsey (31)

 - Streit (35)

 - Regehr (32)

 - Whitney (30)

 - Scuderi (34)

 - Leopold (32)

 - Babchuk (28)

 - Douglas Murray (32)

Personally, I'd like to see us go out and grab either Regehr, Whitney, Scuderi, Murray, or Babchuk.  What do you all think?

 - Horton

 - Clowe

 - Weiss

 - Clarkson

 - Raymond

 - Boyes

I would personally love Horton or Weiss for secondary scoring.  Horton has not fit in well with Boston and I believe would thrive on a second line here with Datsyuk feeding him.  I've always liked Weiss, but i'm not sure how he'd fit here/if he would.

What do you think?

#2357462 Howard = Average

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 19 February 2013 - 10:27 AM

This thread is just wrong, plain wrong.  Howard, while not being necessarily elite, is a very solid goaltender.  I just think the Wings need to find a competent backup to spell him more often and give him rest.  I firmly believe the gets worn out playing as much as he does.  People seem to forget that he was putting up Vezina type numbers before getting the injury bug last season.

Being a Detroit 'tender is one of the most thankless jobs in all of Detroit sports and it's really obnoxious.  It couldn't possibly be the defense a lot of nights.

#2326397 2012 Lockout Watch

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 22 August 2012 - 08:49 AM

From what I've seen on TSN... ever since Bettman came out with his cold "the players will be locked out if a deal is not in place by Sept. 15," the attitude on the NHLPA side has been seemingly optimistic about getting a deal done in time. I like Fehr's attitude because he talks about a lockout being the last ditch effort to all of this, it's not what the players want. I just hope the owners and Bettman can get their heads out of their b-holes and make some concessions to find some middle ground that both sides can move on with. It's ridiculous. If you just split the share revenues 50/50, that SHOULD be enough to satisfy both sides. The players can still play and I'm sure the owners can still line their pockets as they have over the past 7 years.

At least they're starting to negotiate finer points, instead of the bigger picture now. I never understood that, you know where you are separated on the most, so work that out first and foremost, then the other stuff will fall into place and be a lot easier to negotiate on, without the elephant in the room.

#2324900 Our current forwards.

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 12 August 2012 - 12:16 PM

If Z D F get run, then we should have a legit fighter to make that guy pay. Kocur, Lapointe, and Shanny policed things. We dont even have one guy as tough as them.

Seriously.... that's pre-lockout. It's a different game. Go cry about it.

#2324079 Red Wings Sign Jurco to Entry Level Contract

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 06 August 2012 - 09:48 PM

I would be giddy if he could somehow make the big squad this season.... Feeling like he could learn a ton from Datsyuk and those two would be awesome together. Not holding my breath, though.

#2323402 Sabres Re-sign Forward Kaleta to Multi-year Contract.

Bring on Regehr to Detroit... They have 8 or 9 d-men right now.

#2322621 Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 28 July 2012 - 08:53 AM

Absolutely not.... I don't think of Fedorov, when I am looking up at the following players' jerseys:

Yzerman, Sawchuk, Delvecchio, Lindsay, Abel, Howe.... and soon Lidstrom.

He doesn't fit with that group of esteemed players. If he had stayed with the club and finished his career out with some sort of respect and dignity, then possibly then he would be considered, but he ended up leaving for money.

As far as Dats and Z go.... they still have several years until they retire, so the jury is still out, but if they continue on the path they have already set, I would say there is a 60/40 chance.

#2321472 Bobby Ryan

I keep hearing that Anaheim loves Flip... is this true or not? If that's the case, I say you package a deal to them that includes Filppula, Tatar, and a 1st rounder....

#2321125 Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?

How many of these nonsense threads are people going to start until we get it through their thick skulls that the simple answer to these silly, panicky questions is NO!

#2319693 Should Pav and Z play on the same line for the majority of this season

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 18 July 2012 - 08:30 AM

Orrrrr you get really crazy and give Flip an opportunity to grow even more by having him center the first line with Datsyuk and Z can center the second line...

Z could be a great mentor to Nyquist and/or Brunner
