#2585984 3/28 GDT : Lightning 0 at Red Wings 4

Boston leading the Rangers 3:0 with a few minutes to play in the first. Lundqvuist sucks ?!

The guy hasn't played in a few months.... He will be in form within a week. He actually wins series for his team in the playoffs.

Howard did not earn his money last season and is now not earning his money this season. Without Pete, we wouldn't be in a playoffs spot right now because we have not been good since he was playing while Jimmy was out and it was Pete winning us games. Jimmy has been so inconsistent that it is not even funny. The goals he gave up last night were laughable and he was the reason we lost that game. There is no denying that. He is not a terrible goalie, but he lacks consistency and he is hurting the Wings right now. If I am Babcock I would sit Jimmy for now and play Pete. If Pete plays good keep playing him. The team always plays more confident in front of Pete and they move the puck out easier too because of his puck ability. Simply put if Jimmy Howard starts for us in the playoffs if he is as he is now, we lose in 4 games. We have 10 games left and I am tired of  betting on Jimmy to be consistent.

2 things to note about the winner:

1- NHL probably has it in their mind the goal is unreviewable (whereas I think all goals should be)

2- The only point where I see the stick clearly broken is after he makes contact with Allen's pads, at that point the stick is awkwardly bent (thus broken imo) neither the refs, nor abby would have the reaction time to identify that as a broken stick before the puck went in. I think it would be unfair to call it back.

2 things about the officials

1 - The linesmen were absolutely brutal!

2 - the amount of interference let go by both sides was VERY interesting. It wasn't subtle at all.

And I liked it. Allowing interference like that take place makes it safer to go back and retrieve pucks. That is why there have been so many more injuries the past few seasons because more guys are getting run because of the amount of interference calls. In my opinion, the refs let both team play today and the majority of calls made were clear calls. That is how it should be.

Good call putting zids on, best d-man on the team

Besides Kronwall you mean. Kronwall is very much undervalued by some people on this forum. He had an awesome game today by the way.

So Brendan smith on the first pair for two goals against at even strength today. Can everybody who thought that was a good idea raise your hand...and then go purge yourself of other bad ideas.

You obviously haven't been watching games closely lately. Smith has been one of our best players the last few games and most consistent. He is skating well, moving the puck quickly, joining in the rush, and playing pretty good D as well. Kronners has looked far more comfortable with Smith than Ericsson.

Kronners- Smith

Danny D- Zids

Quincy- Marchenkio

I would sit Ericsson for a game and keep that as my top 4 I really like that.

#2577736 Helm injury update and a very good one too

That is good but dont want to rush him. In my opinion, Wednesday's game is a battle of the two teams that improved the most via trades.

#2577642 Red Wings acquire Marek Zidlicky from NJ for Cond. 2016 3rd Round Pick

Posted by wings_fanatic on 02 March 2015 - 02:16 PM

Why all the hate for Smith?! He has had a very good season and simply doesn't get PP time that he SHOULD get. The D pairings will be:

Kronners- E

Smith- Zidlicky

#2574434 Is Jimmy Our Playoff Goalie?

Posted by wings_fanatic on 24 February 2015 - 05:37 PM

This is such a debatable issue and, for good reason. There are those who support Jimmy and simply cannot understand why fans hate on him so much and then, on the flip side, there seem to be those who want Jimmy gone. Me- I am kind of in between. In the 2013 playoffs there is no doubt that Jimmy was a big reason for the Wings success. I mean we nearly made it to the conference finals. Jimmy has the ability to steal us games, see Chicago for instance. There is no doubt he is a good goalie. But what separates him from guys like Lunquivst, like it or not, is that he doesn't win the games that matter.

He has been our starter in the playoffs since 2010. Since then we have not made it past the 2nd round. Lets look at the playoffs since 2010:

2010: Lost in the 2nd round to the Sharks in 5 games. If memory serves me correctly, we were dominating game 3 of this series until Jimmy let it an awful goal by Heatly and we ended up losing that game and ultimately the series In that series, he let in quite a few soft goals.

2011: Lost in the 2nd round to the Sharks in 7 games. Jimmy was significantly better in these playoffs and cannot be faulted for losing this series We simply did not have enough guys going.

2012: 1st round loss to Nashville in 5 games. Embarssing series by the entire team. Unfortunate that this was Nick Lidstrom's last season. Jimmy was not very good as with the rest of the team.

Note for these 3 seasons, JImmy had excellent Dmen and still never got past the second round, like it or not he didn't.

2013: 2nd round loss to the Hawks in 7 games. Great playoffs by Jimmy.

2014: 1st round loss to Boston in 5 games. Jimmy did not play much, but was good in game 1 but was not good in game 2.

Now it is hard to assess on Jimmy in last year's playoffs but I can say I felt much more confident with Gus in net. As I said, I don't dislike Jimmy. He is a good goalie- not great. He is a team player, he never complains and is not afraid to get rough. All good qualities. BUT, he has never gotten us past the 2nd round in 4 years like it or not. Now I am not saying we need to get rid of him. But what I am saying is that I think this is going to be an important playoffs for him. Not necessarily whether we win the Cup or not but if he gives up bad goals at bad times, then I think the team might look at changes down the road. I am not basing this off of his last couple games because he just came back from injury and we all know he is far better than that. Realistically, however, this is a very important playoffs for Jimmy Howard in my opinion.

Helene St. James ‏@HeleneStJames 2m2 minutes ago

Henrik Zetterberg says he has daily headaches, but he didn't label head injury concussion. Said not upset no punishment for Jamie Benn.

Ansar Khan ‏@AnsarKhanMLive 2m2 minutes ago

Zetterberg said he's still experiencing headache and symptoms of concussion (not calling it that). Not sure when he can return.

Ansar Khan ‏@AnsarKhanMLive 2m2 minutes ago

Zetterberg said he has no issues with punch to head by Benn and isn't upset NHL didn't discipline him.

True leader.

What an unbelievable game. When a team wins like this, when you know they did not play anywhere near their best, were missing a top 4 dman, missed their captain for the 3rd, you know they are a good team. I cannot say enough about Mike Babcock. Whoever said earlier that they hope we have a new coach next year, this is why you are totally incorreect. Mike Babcock is the best coach in the world. His ability to instil confidence in his players is unreal. The players believe they are going to win. When the team is down, the players believe they are going to come back and they do.

Yah they did not play a good game at all. But in the end, Pav stepped up, Kronners stepped up, Tatar stepped up, Abby stepped up. Leaders. Our team has so many good things and I just love watching them and am excited for the playoffs because I believe in this team.

#2571391 2/16 GDT : Montreal Canadiens 2 at Red Wings 0

I don't think Montreal is that great of a team. They are AS good as price but I think in a 7 game series we would come out over price. I don't like nyquust with pav at all in fact neither top line had chemistry tonight. I much prefer tats with pav. ID like jurco to get time playing with pav and tats as well.

Smith and pavs entire line was fantastic tonight. I thought zestys line was slow tonight. Howard wasn't great but finished strong.

I am happy with our D what I would like to see us add is a big hitting forward to replace Anderson. I think that is one element that we are missing and could really use that for the playoffs.

#2563350 Could the Wings be better off trading Pav & Hank for draft picks?

Not too worried about this game. I knew it would be a sloppy game because every time we come back east from a west coast trip the team is sloppy. The game isn't over and one thing I've learned this season is to not count out our team, but they simply look like they do after all their west coast trips
