#2545893 10/31 GDT : Los Angeles Kings (2) at Red Wings (5), 7:30 EST

Posted by wings_fanatic on 31 October 2014 - 09:20 PM

Great win by the Wings. They were flying in the 1st, began to step back too much in the 2nd, paid for it at the start of the 3rd. But, they got through it, worked hard and started taking over the game again and controlled the last 15 or so minutes of the game. Our best players were the best players on the ice. Pav and Hank just work soooooo well together. When they are able to play together I don't care what anyone says, they are the best line in hockey. The problem is making them continue to be able to work together.

The kid line was fantastic tonight. By far their best game of the season. Keep them together. Gus and Tats have chemistry together that is working.

One thing is for sure. LA is a Very good team. They were missing key players and still battled hard and pushed the Wings for a bit there. Having said that, I really liked the way the Red Wings played against a great team. I don;t know where Franzen comes in because I do not want the top 2 lines touched and I like the 3rd line as well. Gotta love when you have tough decisions like that.

Not a well played game tonight, but the leaders stepped up and the team started skating in the 3rd and were much better. Babs hopefully keeps these lines moving forward because things are getting done when Pav and Hank are together and the kids even started skating better too. The highlight of thegame for me? Brendan Smith on the PP! Did anyone else notice that Smitty shot the puck 3 or 4 times in that short amount of time? That is what our PP is lacking and that is what Smith can bring the PP so PLAY HIM!

The Red Wings have had so many goals called off over the years it is not even funny. And I would not mind if most of them were the wrong call. We should be up 1-0.

But as it is, we are tied despite not playing very well. Babs needs to change the lines. They simply are not working. I am sick of Abby on the top 6. And the kids need a foot in their rear ends to get them going. In the meantime, it is time to play Pav and Hank together.

Z- Pav- Jurco

Tatar- Sheahan- Nyquist

Abby- Helm- Nestrasil

4th line.

Jurco needs to get working and I like him with Pav and Hank because he is a bigger body who can be strong on the puck. I think giving him a chance with the big guns will help. Nyquist and Tatar have played well together in the past and frankly I just don't think the kid line is doing enough to keep it completely together right now so make that minor change.

On the PP. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD USE BRENDAN SMITH!!!!

i am SICK of the officiating in the nhl. Every single game there is some sort of significant mistake made by the refs. We have already had points stolen from us against the Ducks and Montreal, and now another goal called off here for complete BS! Unacceptable!

Good first period start on the road for the Wings. Kindl really bugs me, he is far too soft on the puck. Quincy also needs to learn how to make a proper outlet pass.

Overall though, it was a good period and a good effort by the wings. the PK looks great still and our PP looked better. It moved the puck well and generated chances. We need to shoot the puck more though, but it will come.

People bashing Z are hilarious. Pretty sure he has earned enough to have a bad game every now and then he is human. He is a workhorse and I am not worried at all that he will find his game and getting Pav back soon will no doubt help him.

BTW what an awful lazy play by Kindl he sucks.

For the life of me I don't understand why Babs refuses to play Smith on the PP! He has such good offensive instincts. Can make great passes, knows when to shoot, has a good one timer. Our PP would be better with him on it. Play him with Danny D on the point and 3 forwards up front because the whole 4 forwards thing isn't working.

Ppl complained about Osgood. Ppl complained about Hasek. Ppl will complain about Howard. He's not bad, but he's also not the best, but he's ours, and for that I like him.

Till Mrazek is ready, that's my stance.

The difference being Dom and Ozzy won the big ones. They were big time players for big time games. What has Howard done since becoming our starter? He has never taken us past the 2nd round. Even the years where we had Lidstrom, Rafi, Kronner and Stu as our top 4 D, Howard never took us past the 2nd round and, in some cases, costed us playoffs games (See game 3 both years against San Jose). He was sub par against Nashville. Thats why this year I think is the year where Howard either proves himself, or we make a change.

On another note, I find it humorous how often the Red Wings are screwed against the Ducks. Think about it:

2008: Lidstrom scores in the last minute of the game to tie it, only to have Dan Ohalloran waive the goal off... awful call

2009 playoffs: In the last minute of one of the games, the Wings scored to tie the game, but the ref said he intended to blow the whisle...awful call

2013 playoffs game 6: Last minute of the game and Quincy is tripped and there is no call, Ducks score to tie the game.

There are probably more examples but these are the big ones. That is a lot of bad calls against the same team. Not just bad calls, but bad calls that costed us the game or could have costed us the game.

No.  Officiating sucks equally in all three sports (don't watch baseball enough to know or care).

Every time I'm ready to proclaim NHL referees the worst, I think of NBA and NFL referees and retract the thought.  Same thing with the other two sports.  Referees are like players.  They're human and will make stupid mistakes.

What sports really need is to get rid of refs and replace them with computers that never make any mistakes.  But that's obviously not happening right now, so we're stuck with what we have.

If Mrazek is better, than he should start.

This franchise doesn't owe Howard anything.  It's the same franchise that benched better goalies like Hasek, Joseph and Osgood at some point in their careers.

Well said. IMO this is an important year for Howard. If he continues to be just average, then that is not good enough. Not when we have a really good goalie in the minors and he can play the puck too.

Solid game tonight. I still do not like Kindl at all, I find he loses every single puck battle that there is. Quincy had a very strong game which is nice to see. I thought Smith had an okay game but had a couple plays I think he would like back. He needs to remember he is at his best when his legs are moving. The top line is starting to get going... they generated a lot of chances tonight and looked impressive. The same can be said for the kid line... only a matter of time until they get on the scoreboard.

Howard had some nice saves tonight, however it comes back to the timely save idea. At the end of the day, he simply was not good enough tonight. He really needs to learn how to handle the puck. Either handle the puck or stay in the net. Anything is better then confusing your team everytime you come out of the net. He costed us a goal, but did not cost us the game. He needs to be better though.

Overall, I am really liking what I am seeing from the team. They are competing really hard and their speed is amazing. Bare in mind we are looking quite impressive WITHOUT Pav in the lineup.

Someone REALLY needs to teach Howard how to handle the puck! That exact play probably happens like 5 times a year with him and a goal is given up. I have seen 12 year old goalies handle the puck better then he does. I know it is not his comfort zone so either learn how to handle the puck or stay in your net.

Also, I HATE Kesler! These refs neeed to get their act together and make the right calls.

One thing is for sure. Oulette is so much better than kindl it isn't even funny. So much more composed, a better skater, smarter. I will be extremely disappointed in babs if he opts to play kindl over oulette. On a final note, good for goose to score in the shootout... Maybe confidence booster to get him going a bit more.

We can survive without Francine

Ya please don't put franzen anywhere near the same sentence as pav and hank.

#2536667 Training Camp Thread

Posted by wings_fanatic on 20 September 2014 - 04:26 PM

Someone in the comments section in the link Dirtydangles posted noted that Weiss has looked really good out there so far, despite the stats.

To add to that, Pav did not get any points today either. I guess we should bench him? I don't understand why some Red Wings fans need to be so negative all the time. I am more than willing to give Weiss another chance to prove himself. He is a heck of a player and lets see what he can do healthy this year before we dump him in freakin training camp!
