I am sorry but Mike Babcock is not doing a good coaching job this year. Just like the last overtime we lost in the last minute, WHY THE EFF would Pavs and Hank not be on the ice in the last minute... that is just awful coaching. It killed us last time, and it killed us again. They should ALWAYS be on the ice in the last minute.

3 of their goals came in the last minutes of the periods, that is just unacceptable. I know none of the goals were Jimmy's fault, but ever since he started playing as our starter I swear there are a ton of late minute goals against us in periods, and those are killers. He needs to find a way to make important saves at the dying minutes of periods.

Lastly, the officiating this year is awful. How do the Wings not get a single powerplay again during a game?! The Red Wings are lucky to get more than 1 powerplay this season, despite the fact that Pavs and Hank are continuously hooked and held. This has to change... Babcock needs to let this be known that it is unacceptable.

Now, back to Babcock, he has to fix these lines, no one is producing besides the big boys. Get Cleary the hell off of the 2nd line, he is awful, he is slow, he has no hockey IQ, he has NO PLACE on this team let alone the 2nd line!

No to mention Hudler has more points than anyone on the Wings, and has played one less game.

I would love to see Hudler play head to head against the Sedins and shut them down like Pavs and Hank did, and still put up solid amount of points in the process as they have so far this season.

SOLID game by all the Wings except for Dan Cleary. The guy flat out has zero hockey IQ. All he does is give away pucks and turns what should be good scoring chances into nothing.

- Pavs and Hank were great in the 3rd especially... no points but they did a great job neutralizing the top guns of the Canucks along with Bert

- Alfie was fantastic tonight again... he is such a smart player very much like Lidstrom and Pavs

- Kronners and Danny D were fantastic... I don't see why they cannot log these kinds of minutes each game, Lidstrom and Rafi used to do it every game as our top pairing.

- Howie was fantastic tonight when he needed to be

Hopefully the boys can keep it up!

Babcock does not have a good track record against coaches that used to coach with him as his assistant coach either...

2 things then I'm going to bed because even though this team frustrates me at times sometimes our fans frustrate me more. If people really think that smith fakes an injury because he thought a rebound goal from The hash marks on the ice was a guaranteed goal before it even got over there, then I'm at a loss for words. I guess the only way you can pull something or tweek something in your neck or shoulder is if the puck hits you there not by extending to make a save and then again that the rebound actually would have had a chance of going in if Smith was hurt (or faking as some think)

For the guy that said he should leave the game? Wait till it happens the other way and tell me it should force Howard out of the game and should then apply for every time the game is stopped or an injury? Any player that gets hurts has to leave the game.

Finally the people getting on Howard, no he did not have a great game but I'm forgetting the first goal but two empty net back door rebound goals because Andersson can't cover his man twice, and a breakaway and every one wants Gus back in...? Knee Jerk reaction much...

And finally point please for the love of all things on this earth... Unless you enjoy gettig sucked in to a meaningless debate just realize that fat guy in a maltby jersey will never be happy with our team performance (maybe he is just that pessimistic and if so it's his opinion and it's fin) but I am choosing to exercise my ability to use the ignore posts option lol...

My rant, go wings and have a good night all lol

Howie has made saves when his helmet came off... and he has gotten hurt before (hit with puck) but kept battling until a whistle. He has honor and heart and a willingness to compete. He would not lay down to have a goal called off and then get up a minute later, looking fine I might add, and play the rest of the game.

Questionable calls? This was awful officiating once again. I don't care of Smith was down, the NHL needs to fix that rule... if the goalie goes down in that situation he either leaves the game, or else the goal should count because if he is okay to stay in the game, then no reason to say the goal should not count. That really effed us over.

The linesman need to move the eff out of the way, single handedly costed us there on the 3rd goal. And then the ref calls embellishment on the most obvious hook ever. It was not until we were down by 2 that the refs decided to give us a powerplay. The NHL officiating is just lame and the worst part is im not even surprised anymore.

Now, onto the Wings. Babcock has got to come up with better lines. I am all for Weiss needing time to adjust to our system and I do see him competing hard, but Babcock needs to change the 2nd and 3rd lines up. That 3rd line is just too damn slow. It is time to freakin play Tatar and NOT SAMMY!!!! I like Bert on the top line with Pavs and hank, knowing that if momentum turns from us we can switch and put Alfie on the top line.

Also, I would like to see Abby move to the 3rd line to give it some spark like he did Franzen.

Hank- Dats- Bert

Franzen- Weiss- Alfie

4th line without Sammy

#2445712 Kronwall Injury Update

I love how Kronners is such a humble guy, just like the great Red Wings leaders before him. Instead of crying about the hit like a guy like Crosby would, Kronners admits that he put himself in the bad position. Great to hear he is doing okay because we cannot afford to lose him too long.

Much better game tn, but still stuff to work on.

The top line was unreal... please Babs never break them up I LUV when Bert plays with Pavs!

Alfie had a great game, despite being on the 3rd line. Speaking of which all the bottom 6 were good tonight.

The two things I will say is that despite winning 5-2, Franzen still stood out as being 3 steps behind, lazy and useless. Alfie should defs be on that 2nd line over Franzen. Also, the team needs to do a better job at limiting shots. BUT, a much needed win for sure and hopefully they come out in Boston looking for retribution on Monday.

if ever a player was in serious need of some tough love, it's Franzen

I've noticed that a lot less people refer to him as 'Mule' as they used to(myself included), I think he's lost the right to his nickname, unless all mules become listless pylons

Babs should bench him for a game, might at least be a step toward waking him up a little

I agree... if this continues, he needs to be bought out next summer I am sick of it. But to punish Alfie over Fraznen is silly cuz at least Alfie has been trying, and has looked rly good tonight. Franzen on the other hand....

I am liking some of Babcock's line changes, but not all of them.

To begin, I am LOVING bert on that top line! He looks great out there with the big boys.

I am still not liking the 2nd line at all... literally every shift that line was on the ice, we were hemmed in our zone. The reason? IMO it is Franzen and his lazy play. I counted at least 4 times where the puck came to franzen and he literally just stayed put with the puck until the Pilly player came to take it from him... I am tired of Babs playing Franzen over guys that deserve it. I would like to see Alfie on the 2nd line and Franzen on the 3rd line.

I think it is time Babcock does a little line juggling here. Alfie had a rough game tonight, but even Pavs looks like he is doing too much... lets simplify things.

I think Babs should load up the top line, and it isn't to punish Abby because he has been fantastic. In fact, I think Babs needs to use Abby on the 2nd line to spark some energy for them.

I would like to see

Zetty- Datsyuk-Alfie (Pavs and Hank are just so good, that they will get Alfie going and I feel all he needs is that 1st one and then he will relax and be more confident. Also, having a right-handed shot on this line could do wonders. It would be, no doubt, the smartest line in hockey.)

Franzen- Weiss- Abby (Abby will provide some much needed energy to this line and will go to the net)

Nyquist-Anderson- Tatar (just do it already, for the love of God I don't care how Kenny does it, just do it!)

And then the 4th line

#2442363 10/5 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Bruins 4

The problem is Smith is playing with the wrong Dman. He should NOT be playing with Quincy, but rather should be playing with Danny D. Danny D is so much more solid and responsible than Quincy that it would allow Smith to simplify his game more and play his style... I really wish Babs would try that out.

I still believe Wings were simply gassed... next Monday will be a much more accurate test. Also, even though the Wings were outplayed, I still think the refs let the Bruins get away with a LOT of holding, especially holding against Pavs. Nevertheless, I am not worried at all about the Wings. One thing is for sure... we need to assemble our key playoff 3rd line of Anderson, Nyquist, Tatar and then just have the 4th line be veterans like Boston.

Hank- Pavs- Abby

Franzen-Weiss- Alfie

Cleary-Helm(when back)-Bertuzzi/Miller

IMO this will be the best use of the lines for the Wings

Some ppl on here are super annoying. Old, Bruins are better than us in every category? Come on, get a grip of yourselves and act like you know at least a little about hockey.

It is super obvious that the boys are tired. They are behind 2 steps skating, their passing is off (EVEN PAVS!) and there is far too much puck watching going on tonight. BUT, this is their 3rd game in 4 nights... that is hard to start a season with because you are not yet fulled conditioned and add to that, we have some new faces getting used to the system.

Long story short, imo, this game does not tell me anything about our team if we lose. When we are rested, I think the red wings will compete with the bruins and are pretty much even with them except our top line is better than theirs.

Lets relax, the boys will have 5 days off to actually work on some things such as the PP.

I have no idea what some of you are talking about... I was at the game and the arena was full tonight. Quite a few ppl decided to leave towards the end a little early, but otherwise there were no empty seats. Crowd was great all night, lots of lets go red wings chants.

It was a great 60 minute effort by the boys. I thought the officiating was awful, and really put our penalty killers to work. I do not know if anyone noticed, but one of the refs there tonight looked like he is about 20 years old, and he is the one that made most of the awful calls. Something tells me Bettman is training the next generation of refs, which is a scary thing.

Pavs and Hank and Abby were fantastic tonight. They were flying (ESPECIALLY PAVS). I have not checked, but I bet Pavs has between 3 and 5 takeaways already. I thought Alfie was great out there. He husstled every shift, shot the puck, and he is a very underated passer... his vision is amazing. Weiss looks like he is still adjusting to our system (I think it will take him about 15 games) but he is for sure competing hard out there, especially on some of the penalty kills.

Lastly, our defense looked really solid tonight. For the most part, all of them were in perfect position on both sides of the puck. One thing I really noticed is how Ericsson is really taking a leadership with the team, and I think that is making him much more confident with his play. The way Kronners played tonight, he could be a norris candidate by the end of the season... hopefully he can keep it up.

Overall, great way to start the season, and the Wings will only get better moving forward.

#2435421 Lines Thread

Zetterberg- Datsyuk- Bertuzzi

Franzen- Weiss- Alfie

Nyquist- Anderson- Tatar

Abby- Helm-Miller/Eaves/Sammy

Kronners- Ericsson

Dekeyser- Smith

Kindl- Quincy

- I think this will make the team as balanced as possible.

- Bert, as long as he is healthy, is better than Abby on the top line with Pavs and Hank. Bert is a bigger body, and is able to create more space for the Eurotwins. Also, Bert is a very good passer, and can contribute with goals. I think that this can be a very good 1st line if Babs keeps them together given we still have a really good 2nd line.

- I really am looking forward to seeing this 2nd line play. It has all the potential to be one of the top 2nd lines in the league, and Alfie is going to be super hungry. I see big things from this line.

- In the playoffs, our 3rd line was fantastic and at times was our best line. We are going to essentially replace Brunner with Tatar, which is not a bad thing considering what we know and have seen from Tatar. Anderson developed himself into a solid 3rd line center last year, and Nyquist and Tatar will add a nice element of speed and skill. This will be a fun line to watch and could become one of the better 3rd lines in the league.

- Our 4th line will see a HUGE upgrade this season assuming Helm is back and fully healthy. Add Abby who has some grit and knowledge of the game, and Miller/ Eaves, and you have a solid 4th line capable of doing their job well.

- Kronners and Ericsson were great last year, no reason to change that. I would like to see Kronners shoot the puck more this season tho.

- Danny D was fantastic when he played for us, and Smith could really benefit from having that solid defense presence playing with him... I would like to give this a try.

- Kindl had a a developing year last season with his offense, but still needs to work on his defense. Quincy really settled down after the 10 game mark last year and played a solid season. I think this is a capable 3rd pairing.

Overall, I think this is our best group of forwards since 2009 when we were STACKED and I am super excited to watch this season. Come on Oct. 2nd!!
