#2441244 10/2 GDT : Sabres 1 at Red Wings 2

Posted by wings_fanatic on 03 October 2013 - 01:06 AM

I have no idea what some of you are talking about... I was at the game and the arena was full tonight. Quite a few ppl decided to leave towards the end a little early, but otherwise there were no empty seats. Crowd was great all night, lots of lets go red wings chants.

It was a great 60 minute effort by the boys. I thought the officiating was awful, and really put our penalty killers to work. I do not know if anyone noticed, but one of the refs there tonight looked like he is about 20 years old, and he is the one that made most of the awful calls. Something tells me Bettman is training the next generation of refs, which is a scary thing.

Pavs and Hank and Abby were fantastic tonight. They were flying (ESPECIALLY PAVS). I have not checked, but I bet Pavs has between 3 and 5 takeaways already. I thought Alfie was great out there. He husstled every shift, shot the puck, and he is a very underated passer... his vision is amazing. Weiss looks like he is still adjusting to our system (I think it will take him about 15 games) but he is for sure competing hard out there, especially on some of the penalty kills.

Lastly, our defense looked really solid tonight. For the most part, all of them were in perfect position on both sides of the puck. One thing I really noticed is how Ericsson is really taking a leadership with the team, and I think that is making him much more confident with his play. The way Kronners played tonight, he could be a norris candidate by the end of the season... hopefully he can keep it up.

Overall, great way to start the season, and the Wings will only get better moving forward.

#2435421 Lines Thread

Posted by wings_fanatic on 07 September 2013 - 06:54 PM

Zetterberg- Datsyuk- Bertuzzi

Franzen- Weiss- Alfie

Nyquist- Anderson- Tatar

Abby- Helm-Miller/Eaves/Sammy

Kronners- Ericsson

Dekeyser- Smith

Kindl- Quincy

- I think this will make the team as balanced as possible.

- Bert, as long as he is healthy, is better than Abby on the top line with Pavs and Hank. Bert is a bigger body, and is able to create more space for the Eurotwins. Also, Bert is a very good passer, and can contribute with goals. I think that this can be a very good 1st line if Babs keeps them together given we still have a really good 2nd line.

- I really am looking forward to seeing this 2nd line play. It has all the potential to be one of the top 2nd lines in the league, and Alfie is going to be super hungry. I see big things from this line.

- In the playoffs, our 3rd line was fantastic and at times was our best line. We are going to essentially replace Brunner with Tatar, which is not a bad thing considering what we know and have seen from Tatar. Anderson developed himself into a solid 3rd line center last year, and Nyquist and Tatar will add a nice element of speed and skill. This will be a fun line to watch and could become one of the better 3rd lines in the league.

- Our 4th line will see a HUGE upgrade this season assuming Helm is back and fully healthy. Add Abby who has some grit and knowledge of the game, and Miller/ Eaves, and you have a solid 4th line capable of doing their job well.

- Kronners and Ericsson were great last year, no reason to change that. I would like to see Kronners shoot the puck more this season tho.

- Danny D was fantastic when he played for us, and Smith could really benefit from having that solid defense presence playing with him... I would like to give this a try.

- Kindl had a a developing year last season with his offense, but still needs to work on his defense. Quincy really settled down after the 10 game mark last year and played a solid season. I think this is a capable 3rd pairing.

Overall, I think this is our best group of forwards since 2009 when we were STACKED and I am super excited to watch this season. Come on Oct. 2nd!!

#2427768 who's on their way out of Detroit

Posted by wings_fanatic on 05 July 2013 - 08:20 PM

You guys are being silly... the Red Wings defense is fine and right on par with most other teams in the league. It is far better than s***sburg's for example, better than the Rangers, the Habs, the Kings, the Ducks, etc. Keep in mind, we will now have Danny Dekeyser for an entire season... look at his impact he had once we signed him. Even Babs said we did not make playoffs had we not signed him. Also, last year we had tons of injuries to our Defense so they were never really able to mesh with a partner. I think Smith especially will show much more offense abilities this year while he gets to mesh with a partner.

This is the lineup I think Babs will look to start the season with and it looks damn good to me.

Zetterberg- Datsyuk- Abdelkator

Alfredson- Weiss- Franzen

Nyquivst- Helm- Tatar (omg that 3rd line is just beautifully filled with speed and skill)

Eaves- Anderson- Miller/Bertuzzi

Kronwall- Ericsson

Dekeyser- Smith (I really want Babs to try this out)

Kindl- Quincy

Obviously this means Cleary, Brunner walk, and Kenny trades Sammy and Tootoo for picks which I am more than okay with.

I think this is a SOLID team.

But we already have too many forwards.

#2426609 Stephen Weiss on his way?

Posted by wings_fanatic on 05 July 2013 - 11:33 AM

It would be a good signing but I would rather Grabo

#2426440 Wings in on Alfredsson

Posted by wings_fanatic on 05 July 2013 - 10:21 AM

Yeah Brunner went 5 and 4 in 14 games and was a plus 2

Alfie went 4 and 4 in 10 games and was a plus 5

So your sarcastic point about me missing the playoffs is pretty irrelevant!

Brunner is a lot younger thank Alfie and can continue to do that for us for years. Not jsut one. As long as we keep Brunner and sign Grabo, I will be happy with signing Alfie as extra.

#2426235 Grabovski Bought Out

Posted by wings_fanatic on 05 July 2013 - 12:20 AM

Another interesting thing to take into consideration... apparently tomorrow Grabo is getting married to a chick from the Windsor area (for those of you who do not know, it is right across the border from Detroit). Maybe she will put her foot down and have him sign in Hockeytown :)

Grabo kind of reminds me of when Semin was available and had the floater reputation. If we could get him for under 4, I bet he would flourish with Pavel. The risk is small and the reward is great!

Floater? Grabo does not float around... he competes every single shift. He had an off year this season, but if you watched him he competes regularly. Even in the playoffs, while he was getting knocked around he continued to get up and compete. He does NOT float around like Semin. Also, he is a very good friend of Pavs, so hopefully Pavs can talk him and Kenny into some sort of an agreement because he would be a great fit here

#2426024 Players of Interest

Posted by wings_fanatic on 04 July 2013 - 05:06 PM

Bertuzzi on the top line?  Guy is like 40 and didn't even play last season.

I sure hope he isn't playing on the top line next year.  That doesn't say much about our lineup.

Bert plays well with Datsyuk. Keeps his game simple, creates space for Pavs and is not afraid to go to the front of the net. He can get between 15 and 20 goals playing with Pavs when healthy.

#2420616 Best Songs That Pump You Up at the Rink

Posted by wings_fanatic on 18 June 2013 - 03:19 PM

Lose Yourself- Eminem

That has been my favorite pump up song for years... it ALWAYS gets me going. I always listen to it before my hockey games on my ipod. More than that, I was at game 6 this playoffs against the Ducks. The Wings had lost their 2 goal lead late and the arena went dead. But right at the start of the overtime, the arena played "Lose Yourself" and it got the arena going again... it really pumps you up and is my favorite song.

#2418614 What would you give up for Malkin?

Posted by wings_fanatic on 08 June 2013 - 03:39 PM

I agree people worry about PROSPECTS. Guys who have value but proven NOTHING. We are talking about PROSPECTS for an MVP type player.

This is a league where teams with stars win. The best teams this year have 2-4 superstars. Then a bunch of good and great role players.

Can you build a team through free agency? No. Can you through draft and trade? Yes.

Proven nothing? I don't know if you missed the playoffs this year, but for those of us who watched it saw HUGE growth in our young guys from start to finish. Nyquist was fantastic. Brunner was fantastic. Smith and Kindl struggled at times, but also had moments where they showed growth. We all know Danny D is going to be a stud and I personally believe if we had him playing we would have beaten the Hawks.

But to say that our prospects and young guys have showed nothing is simply ridiculous. Yes, Malkin has won an MVP and has put up a ton of points. But why on God's earth would you trade away guys who showed so much growth in just these playoffs? Nyquist is going to be a stud. In 2002, when Pavel Datsyuk showed signs of brilliance, should we have traded him to get a guy like Jagr? No, because we saw that he was coming into his own, much like our young guys now. Nyquist will not be Pavel Datsyuk, but there is no reason to say that we won't be something special for years to come. Have some faith, believe in the system because when everyone wrote the Wings off this year, they just kept coming because they believe in their system.

#2412065 WCSF Game 5 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Blackhawks 4, (DET leads series 3-2)

Posted by wings_fanatic on 25 May 2013 - 11:00 PM

We've only scored two goals the last two games (not counting empty netters).

The offense needs to wake up.

Pavs and Hank should be put together to A) Shut down the Hawks top unit of Kane, Toews, Sharp. and B) To allow Pavs to set up Hank to score some goals and get the offense going.

#2400239 WCQF Game 5 GDT: Red Wings 2 @ Ducks 3 (OT) - (ANA leads series 3-2)

Posted by wings_fanatic on 08 May 2013 - 10:58 PM

Some of you guys are acting like children. Bench Eaves? He made one bad play... but he has been one of our best players this series... always providing energy, getting shots to the net. It was not Smith's fault that he got a bad pass at the blue line like that. IMO the only one to blame is Babcock. He should not have had the 4th line out there on the powerplay. IMO Nyquist has looked FANTASTIC tonight and there was no reason the 2nd pp unit could not go back out once pavs and hank came off. Having the 4th line out there is what led to the turnover, and t he resulting powerplay goal. Therefore, Babcock deserves blame.

Besides that, the Wings played a great period. Dominated play, got good shots to the net, had scoring chances. They hit two posts. The nice thing about the Ducks scoring when they did is it allows the Wings 15 min to regroup and come out strong like in the 2nd. Have some faith.

#2399944 WCQF Game 5 GDT: Red Wings 2 @ Ducks 3 (OT) - (ANA leads series 3-2)

Posted by wings_fanatic on 08 May 2013 - 09:59 PM

I am wondering why Babcock is even playing Sammy. He looks AWFUL. Not only is he not even shooting the puck, but he cannot even receive a simple breakout pass. IMO bert looks great again, and was one of the few players that looked good that period... he should DEFS be on the top line over Sammy.

Other than that, the period played out pretty much as I imagined. The Ducks do NOT want to go back to the Joe where the Wings can eliminate them and are going to play their hearts out in this game. Howard was fantastic, the rest of the team was mostly a step behind. I think the WIngs will regroup, focus and come out stronger next period. They need to be much much better in FO's, and need to get shots to Hiller and start taking the game over.

#2395356 Brian Lashoff to take Dekeyser's place in game 3

They already get a ton of monster cycles going because of Kindl.
