#2531345 Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses

Posted by wings87 on 10 July 2014 - 08:06 PM

Helene St. James ‏@HeleneStJames 1m
#RedWings GM Ken Holland: "My program has been one of loyalty and there's good and bad that goes with that. Way more good, in my opinion."

so is holland himself admitting that the cleary signing is a bad one?

He wasn't particularly loyal to Schneider who he let leave. Or Draper/ Maltby/ or Ozzy who all wanted to keep playing but were forced into retirement because Holland didn't want them back. I'm sure there have been others but I neither want to remember nor research it.

#2529629 Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Posted by kipwinger on 02 July 2014 - 08:35 PM

No.  I don't think Pulks has much value.  It'd have to be Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan or Jurco, and I think only the first two would draw any interest.

A trade for an injury prone, one dimensional, offensive defenseman in the last year of an overpriced contract is going to require a young, future top six, roster player in return?  In what universe?

#2518497 The Franzen Hate.

Posted by BottleOfSmoke on 30 April 2014 - 11:14 PM

@asktheduffer: Dany Heatley, the Canadian Franzen, has scored for #wild tonight. First playoff G since 2011.

I love it when beat writers throw shade.

Howard has more flus than shut outs

#2513043 ADQF | Game 3 | Boston 3 @ Detroit 0, BOS leads series 2-1

Posted by 8 Legged RedWing on 22 April 2014 - 09:21 AM

Just found out one of my good friends passed away on Sunday at 23. He was one of the biggest Wings fans I knew and I'm certain he's up there plotting with the hockey gods already. Keep an eye out for any Red Wing bounces or puck luck tonight. It will be his doing. LGRW.

#2513066 ALFIE is out tonight.

Posted by wingnut#5 on 22 April 2014 - 10:46 AM

He is hurt.  He's been hurt.  He's been playing hurt.  You can see it when he's skating up ice, there's a hitch in his skate.  He just can't pull himself along.  A back injury - we've seen it with Z, is nagging at the least.  I'm up for Joker being in.  I don't know why people keep calling for Bert...he's so friggin slow...and we're saying it's our speed that'll give us the upper hand.  I like this: "we should call up Athanasiou. Stick him with Helm and Jurco and let the utter speed spin Boston".  Seriously, what have we got to lose?  We're pegged to go down anyways right?  LOL.  Let's go boys...  Boston hasn't won in our house since March 11, 2007.  It simply cannot happen now.

Alfie still has a shot that can change the game for us at any time ugh .... Nyquist and mule need to wake up tonight

Uhm, this is the ABSOLUTE truth.  Especially Franzen.  He knows how this goes.

#2510238 'Twas The Night Before Playoffs

Posted by Peadydog on 17 April 2014 - 03:55 PM

‘Twas The Night Before Playoffs

‘Twas the night before Playoffs and all through the Joe

Not a player was skating, not fast and not slow.

The jerseys were hung from the rafters with care

Stevie, Sid, Gordie, Terry, Ted, Nick and Alex were there.

The fans in Detroit were all snug in their beds,

While Stanley Cup fever danced ‘round in their heads.

Our young guns Tomas Tatar and Gustav Nyquist you see

Would star in their dreams of what would soon be.

Next day on the ice there would be such a clatter,

That, for true fans of hockey, nothing else would matter.

Away to the arena, we fly like a flash,

(Unless we can’t get tickets, ‘cause we don’t have the cash).

The laser light show on the freshly groomed ice

Would light up the way as we welcome our guys!

Then, what to our wondering eyes should appear?

But the best of the NHL, at least so far this year.

With Z as our Captain, and now Daniel Alfredsson

Or Swedish lineup is second to none.

More rapid than eagles, the players they came,

And we whistled and shouted, and called them by name.

“Now Kindl! Now Kronwall!  Now, go, Kyle Quincey!

On Datsyuk! On DeKeyser! And, now, Luke Glendening!

Into the Playoffs!  With the best of the League!

There’s no turning back!  There will be no fatigue!”

“There’s Toman Jurco, Ryan Sproul, and Todd Bertuzzi

David Legwand!  Riley Sheahan!  It makes us all woozy!

Thanks to Petr Mrazek and Brendan Smith!

We got to this point, this team knows no quit!”

No rest for the weary, surely we’ll whelm!

Here’s Franzen! And Ericsson! And now Darren Helm!!

There’s Tootoo! and Andersson! and Jimmy in net.

Drew Miller, Landon Ferraro, the best fourth line yet!

They say we’re getting old, we know that’s not true

We simply reload and reload, that’s what we do!

With Lashoff and Abby and don’t forget Cory

Our young guys can bring it, there’ll be no worry!

As the Bruins and the Lightning and Penguins all cry,

When they meet with the Wings, and their Stanley dreams die.

As the Blackhawks do crumble and the Sharks meet with fate,

The Blues and the Wild will just have to wait.

Then, dressed up so nicely, in the best they could find,

The coaches line up, with the trainers behind.

There’s Renny, and Bill Peters, and head coach Mike Babcock

And, on the bench, The Monster, our faithful back-up!

We moved to the East

We all had some fears

Would we keep the streak alive?

Yes!  Now it’s 23 years!!

Our eyes, how they twinkle!  Our hearts are so merry!

With Redmond to comment, or maybe Don Cherry.

With a wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Mike soon had assured us we had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word; these guys know how to win

To the Finals we go, we can do this again.

They spring to the ice, as the referees whistle,

In pursuit of the Cup they will fly like a missile.

And the fans will exclaim, whether they lose or they win,

“Go, Red Wings!  We Love You!  What a great year it’s been!”

GO WINGS!!!

Well I see playoff Filppula showed up. Finished -2 and no points.

#2509861 Gus & Tatar almost traded to Calgary per McKenzie

Posted by rrasco on 15 April 2014 - 05:30 PM

I've been saying forever that Nyquist was off the table for me.  If we let some people around here make trades he'd have been gone for less than JB.  Hindsight is 20/20 eh?

#2502331 3/27 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs. Red Wings 4

Posted by themcityblues on 27 March 2014 - 08:30 PM

If this team had Z and Dats they'd be pretty damn good.  They wouldn't start so soft.  These 4-5 games would be 4-3 games.

#2427820 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by The Greek on 05 July 2013 - 10:44 PM

Anyone can be a #1 center, the only thing that matters is chemistry with line mates.

According to your logic the wings should just signs friends and I, instant top line.

#2382415 Helm might be out for season

thats some trade deadline acquisition

#2382180 Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

Posted by GoOzzieGo on 08 April 2013 - 09:34 AM

I'd hate for the streak to come to an end, but what really is gained by making the playoffs and embarrasingly being booted in the first round?  Maybe missing the playoffs would serve as an eye opener to Holland that his team really isn't all that good?  Maybe missing the playoffs lights a fire under his butt to make some real improvements to this team in the future?
