I think they should call up Cleary...he would leave his heart and soul on the ice.

I am actually not kidding.

#2664171 HNIC Rumor: Datsyuk to return to Russia

Posted by frankgrimes on 03 April 2016 - 07:53 AM

Pasha can do whatever he wants, this guy has given the Wings and also the NHL so much joy with his dekes and just mindblowing moves. For me it doesn't matter what this guy decides his legacy has already been written and it's a great one, the guy is still by far the best player on this team.

#2663511 Goalie Battle

Howard really hasn't been that much better. Not terrible but he's still giving up two or three.

I think we all know on any given night it's a fifty fifty flip as to who wins, so Blashill needs to stick with Mrazek. Or at least not pull him and split the games instead.

I don't know why people want to crucify Mrazek and suddenly love Howard. We shouldn't judge Mrazek as badly as we do Howard because he's only had two months of sub par play. Howard has had years of pissing us off and we know with his track record he's not the guy for this team.

He isn't being crucified. Calling it like it is - he simply sucks right now. We have 5 games and need to win. Do you really think Mrazek is more likely to give us the wins we need more than Howard is? If so, what makes you think that? Because Mrazek has a GAA of 3.81 ish in March while Howard has 2.8 ish - that's a huge difference using a month long data set (not just one or two games). Even with "eye ball tests" you could tell Mrazek is off. I mean his form is completely different than it was in January. He's been playing way out, he simply can't move as quick as he used to post to post. He's been giving a crap ton of rebounds (something we rarely saw in January).

Even if Howard is say only a "tiny bit better" I'd go with a "tiny bit better" with 5 games left. This isn't a time to gamble with our chances and hope Mrazek somehow pulls out of it.

Which would ownership and management prefer?

(A) Make the playoffs, earn millions of dollars in playoff revenue even for a first round loss, and keep the Streak alive.

-or-

(B) Miss the playoffs, end the Streak, and move up 4-6 spots in the draft.

Anyone who thinks the Wings do not prefer option (A) needs to reevaluate.

I couldn't agree more

Imagine Pavs finishing his contract here and signing 1 year deals with Chicago or someone

You can't seriously still be advocating getting rid of Datsyuk are you? He is still the best player on the team at the age of 37 and leads the team in points per game virtually every season. He certainly won't decline that much in the next couple seasons that he won't be more than capable of filling the 3rd line center spot... When you're talking about veteran presence, and players that the kids can learn from, there aren't two better players than Pav and Hank. I want them around as long as possible for Larkin, Mantha and company to soak up as much as they can, while they can...

Regardless, if Datsyuk does want to sign a new contract (I think he will), he absolutely should.

Not re-signing Datsyuk is a dumb idea. I'm sorry, but it is. He doesn't take minutes away from kids, he makes them better.

Lol Datsyuk is still the best player on the team. These young guys can learn a lot from him. He plays for the Wings as long as he wants to imo. As soon as he feels he's in the way of a better player I'm sure he'll know to retire but right now he's our best center and will most likely be our best next year and probably the year after if he wants to stay. People aren't noticing he's been playing phenomenal this stretch? His leadership by the way he plays is inspiring to the team trust me. These young guys see Dats taking slap shots and being physical for the sake of the team it makes them go out there and give what he does. His lead by example style of leadership is legendary and works wonders
