#2018571 Red Wings Making Play for Modano

Posted by hillbillywingsfan on 23 July 2010 - 12:44 PM

Modano's +/- last three seasons were -6, -13, -11...is that what the Wings want to add? Holland says they have done well with veterans in the past, but our team is full of experienced guys who have all been to the big dance once or twice. All I see Mike adding might be increased ticket sales with the Michigan native thing.

wow did you look at all his other stats and not just a stat that depends on the team around him?

Some people remind me so much of the project managers and data analyst here at dell. they only pull data that somewhat supports the crap they are trying to say and they leave out everything else. never really looks at the whole picture.

If Holland thinks Modano can help us then that is good enough for me. If he is here then great. If he isn't here then great. The Wings are winning the Cup with or without Modano.

I highly doubt people are going to get on other's cases if those people don't want Modano. If you don't want him, cool. I'd like him but I'm certainly not going to lose sleep if he's not a Red Wing. Nobody here is treating him like the greatest thing since sliced bread.

It's more along the lines, and incredibly aggravating, that some seem to still not get that Helm and Abdlekader are going to be with the team regardless, and are just worrying way too much about them possibly not being re-signed (when they already are) or stuff that nobody can predict years and years down the road. People need to be more patient and this is a situation that really isn't worth reading more into; there is nothing more to read into.

fair enough, but I got 2 negs already for my comment lol

anyways I know helm and abby will be a part of this team next year no matter what and im not worried about loosing them. My problem is I don't want modano taking ice time away from our young guns. I hope modano doesn't sign with us but wont be mad if he does. I just wont care and hope he can fit in and do well.

Your posts are being minus'd because by not wanting to sign Modano you basically admit you don't realize how important depth is because Modano would be an incredible depth signing. Without Modano our bottom 6 is average, with Modano it's one of the best in the league. Combine that with one of the better top sixes in the league and you're looking at making a really deep run in the playoffs. Like I said before, we won in 08 because of our depth. We were out in the second round this year because we had none.

If you are concerned with depth we have a gaping hole in our defense that needs attention and I'm not sold on Smith just yet. If you just want a Modano jersey with a funny number on the back keep clicking the minuses on posts that suggest anything other than Modano is God.

Losing prospects (Ritola), young players (Miller), or much needed NHL ice time (Abdelkader) to sign a washed-up NHL legend for ONE season is not a depth move. He was just offered a contract by the team he watched as a kid... I don't know about you, but if I still had passion for the game I wouldn't hesitate, let alone drag my toes for what seems like an eternity to make that decision. The fact that he hasn't signed a contract yet makes me question whether or not he still has the hunger. Dallas dropped him like a bag of s***, and for them to do that to their legendary player - their Yzerman, is pretty unsettling. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy and I'm sure he's got something left in the tank but I'm not comfortable with Abdelkader wasting another year in the AHL or Ritola being waived just to find out exactly what that something is.

I was on the Modano bandwagon at first but his whole thing has become a terrible joke and I'm over it. There's no denying he was a force back in the day, but I think most of us are giving 2010 Modano just a little too much credit.
