There's no doubting you've made some very valid points - hoewever IMO with this current roster we will continue to have trouble in a best of 7 series against teams that we will likely face in the 2nd round of the playoffs (think Sharks, Canucks, or even the Blackhawks).
I guess I'm spoiled, and want to see a carbon copy of our 1997 roster, or for that matter a carbon copy of the 2011 Boston Bruins.
You are spoiled but who even does carbon copying anymore?
he didn't get a concussion form the lucic hit, there is no way, if it did happen it was after, and lately they have changed it to concussion like symptoms, since a concussion in the nhl relates to a headache, concussion like symptoms must be like saying you had a headache but you didn't really you just wanted to make a point.
Yeah, Hmmm. How would he have picked up a neck injury/headaches in a hit like the one from Lucic? Is a professional, high-level athlete fighting tooth and nail for the playoffs going to fake something for seven games because he wants someone suspended?
He had headaches and an extremely sore neck. From the Lucic hit. Only seven months after concussions kept him from games late last year. He missed seven games with these symptoms because he needed to grow a pair?
Be upset all you want about someone mentioning Franzen, but he is just too inconsistent for my liking. Bobby Ryan and Jerome Iginla are waaaaaaay better than Franzen. You guys want to improve this team but you only want to offer scrubs that nobody wants. It takes talent to acquire talent. Hudler isn't gonna bring us anything, Miller isn't either. Holland tried trading Hudler all summer and nobody wanted him with all his "potential." He has worse value now. You have to trade someone unless you are perfectly fine with Franzen scoring 20 points in 10 games then disappearing for 20, then scoring 20 more in 15, then disappearing for the rest of the season and playoffs.
Er, Franzen doesn't exactly disappear in the playoffs.
I agree with you on a lot of this, but Bobby Ryan's inconsistency is what has brought up all the rumours to begin with. Even last year, he had a five-game pointless drought where Franzen's longest drought was four. Ryan this year has already had two four-game pointless slumps and a three gamer, while Franzen had a six-gamer, but nothing else over two.
Last year, Franzen had a six-game point streak and a five, while Ryan had two fives and a four. This year, Franzen has three four-game streaks already while Ryan has only had a three.
I initially thought this as well, but since then I've reconsidered. The goal above anything else is to win. If the Flyers think that attacking a trapping team is going to hurt their chances of winning (which it sometimes does), and if they also think that waiting will pull the Bolts out of their trap (which it did), then I don't see why they shouldn't wait; waiting for the opportunity for your attack to be effective seems like a good strategy to me.
If this sort of thing became an epidemic in the NHL then something would have to be done, but it really wasn't that big of a deal in the game it happened in. My guess is that the GMs don't do anything about this.
It was still a 2-1 game the Flyers lost. I would say they still need some work on trying to break it. I mean, there's waiting for an opportunity and wasting a minute of game time while you try to make an argument.
It reminded me of Monty Python's Greece-Germany philosopher's soccer game:
