I don't see how just one extra game every 5 weeks would be enough to get to 82, if the end date is the same. That amounts to maybe 4-5 extra games, but the Wings for example played (or were supposed to play) 9 games in October.
Cut out the all star weekend and there is 4-5 more days where teams can play 2 to 3 games.
Frozen Four NCAA, CCHA Championship game, Hockey coach of the year by all three major college hockey publications. That is quite the accumulation for a single year of coaching. I would love to see him in the NHL working for the Wings. He certainly did my Broncos well, after years of mediocrity.
Western did not make the Frozen Four (lost in the first round of the NCAA to Denver). Anyway, what Blashill did with that team in one season was remarkable.
