In Topic: Have we seen the last of Holmstrom?

22 April 2012 - 11:19 PM

I think he'll sign a 1 yr cheap contract, pretty much for the winter classic and a last ditch effort at a cup. With the potential UFA signings, we may have a contending team next year.

This. These responses all seem absurd to me- like others have said, if Holmstrom is gone, I believe Lidstrom is gone as well. And there's no way Lidstrom retires this year. Much like Hossa came here in large part to Kopecky, and then the Hawks signed Kopecky along with Hossa the next year.

In regards to Homer being "done" or "useless," there has not been a season in recent memory that did not end with Holmstrom being severely reduced due to the beatings he took over the course of the season. While, yes, he is older now, athleticism was never the key to his game, and we'll all see to start next season Homer hasn't slipped as far as we all assumed.

That was clearly a penalty! Goalies like Carey Price shouldn't be allowed to be so intimidating. I'm expecting a suspension, Shanny!

In Topic: Did Zetterberg lose his cup ring?

02 March 2012 - 12:00 AM

Saw this over on Reddit. Guy put up a photo on Facebook of a ring he found in the Andiamo's in the RenCen.

Looks like it's the real deal, hope he does the right thing and returns it to the Wings.

Thank you for feeding the trolls =/

In Topic: Players you hate for being good

Oh wow. I can't believe I'm the first to mention Pronger here.

I don't hate Pronger because he's good. I hate him because he's an *******.

In Topic: Report: Pre-season Fighting Lowest in More Than a Decade

08 October 2011 - 02:58 PM

Hockeyfights.com, a paradise for enforcer-slappies like myself, is reporting the NHL saw 72 fights (Fight is characterized by an altercation in which at least 1 of the 2 players gets a fighting major) in 108 pre-season games, the lowest in over a decade. According to the site:

*The 2010-2011 pre-season saw 115 fights in 106 games.
*The 2009-2010 pre-season saw 164 fights in 109 games.
* The 2008-2009 pre-season saw 151 fights in 111 games.

Are we seeing the effects of the deaths of Boogaard, Rypien, and Belak over the summer? Are guys more cautious about fighting? Or could it be the suspensions of a lot of "enforcers" like Shelley, Leblond, and Staubitz in the pre-season that dropped the numbers so significantly? Will these numbers translate into the regular season?

Honestly, we probably would've seen 49 more fights if there would've been 3 more preseason games.
