#2525668 Adam Almquist signed with KHL club

Posted by dat's sick on 25 June 2014 - 10:31 AM

He wasn't ignored, he's not good enough.

The 2 games he played for us he looked like the best PMD on the team. His ability to run a PP is also something we're sorely lacking on our blueline.

Not crazy about losing him to the KHL, I'd love it he returns eventually but with so many young d-men coming up it'll be difficult for him. I thought he would have a good chance to outbattle guys like Kindl, Lashoff, Sproul, Backman and Ouellet this season, it won't be easier in a year or two.

#2524397 Eaves is OUT in Nashville

I'm not really surprised, never saw Nashville as the kind of team where he would be a good fit. I hope he finds a home in the NHL though, he's a solid player and if I was the GM of a team like Edmonton, NYI, Ottawa, Buffalo etc. I wouldn't hesitate to pick him up.

#2522658 Adam Almquist says hes considering returning to Sweden to avoid AHL

Posted by dat's sick on 03 June 2014 - 06:17 PM

Small players can excel in the NHL.  It's harder for a defenseman though, and the few that do make it are far better skaters than Almquist is.  As it stands now, he'd be overmatched in his own end and offensively he wouldn't be able to win enough puck battles to be effective enough to compensate for the poor defense.

People who are saying he'd be better than anyone the Wings have now, or Sproul, Marchenko, or Ouellet, are the "grass is greener" crowd.  The same ones who said that Ericsson was going to be the Swedish Pronger, and every hot prospect was already better than half the roster before they played more than a dozen NHL games, and any given free agent would "obviously" be good here, until that player gets here and we see his flaws.  If Almquist was on the roster next year, everyone would be screaming to get rid of him by Thanksgiving.

Our defense struggles a lot with puck movement, and our PP is dysfunctional largely due to Kronwall being the only one being decent at quarterbacking it. Marchenko seems solid but he's not that gifted offensively. Sproul might have potential, but I get the impression he's not ready for the NHL. Ouellet is safe, but again, more defensively than offensively.

You could be right, that we would want him off the team if he gets the chance. But I feel it's important that he does get that chance. He was impressive in camp last year, in his 2 game call-up he showed a lot of good things. And obviously he's been great in Grand Rapids. Kid deserves a shot.

#2522500 TSN POY: Hertl vs Gustav Nyquist

Posted by dat's sick on 02 June 2014 - 11:20 AM

All 3 plays in this semifinal are better than the 3 in Tatar's semi. The fact that there are 2 Ottawa plays should be an advantage for Nyquist though, that fanbase will be split up while all of us will vote for Gus.

It almost looks like Franzen is telling Datsyuk "...dude, you scored!". Dats was soooo chill after that goal. No big deal, been scoring those goals for a decade..

Babcock deserves a ton of credit, he got the guys ready and playing exactly the kind of game they need to play against the Bruins. Now we have at the very least a split in Boston which is a great result to take back to Detroit.

#2509390 Sproul and Ouellet recalled from Grand Rapids

Both of them look great. Oullet the more steady, reliable of the two but Sproul looks like a potential elite d-man in a few years. Size, skating, skill, shot, physical play.. yep.

#2508435 Nyquist since Datsyuk's Return & Unnatural NHL Development

Posted by dat's sick on 10 April 2014 - 09:32 AM

4 games without a goal? Trade him.

He was crazy hot. He cooled off. That doesn't mean he's been bad, just means he hasn't scored everytime he's touched the puck. There is absolutely zero reason to worry about Gus. He played amazing with Z, so I doubt having our stars in the lineup hurts him.

Chill, and realize how ridiculous he has been for it to be a concern that he hasn't scored in 4 games.

Smith, Lashoff and Kindl. If only we would have upgraded one of these liabilities. Of course Smith is not going anywhere.

At least one of them is out if Ericsson comes back.

Datsyuk and Alfie out? Awesome.

Saying "Datsyuk out" makes it sound like he hasn't been out for a long time and is ALMOST BACK.

I have a good feeling about this game. Or maybe it's just the feeling of finally playing a game that doesn't feel like a complete must-win. We're in a solid position, even with a loss tonight. And a win would to me feel like almost locking up a playoff spot.

Those percentages change so fast. This team can easily lose the next two games. Tampa and Boston. I don't care about what are odds are, until we're actually IN every game will have me a nervous wreck.

#2501504 3/25 GDT - Red Wings 2 at Blue Jackets 4

Hopefully this game serves as a wake-up call. If so, I'm ok with it.

I'd actually consider scratching Franzen and giving Jurco his spot.

LOOOOOOL.

This board man.... wow. Franzen had an okay game. Not great, but probably the best player on that line. Alfredsson was awful, Legwand invisible. But even so, none of them come close to the horrific play of Bertuzzi. I assume Callahan is out if Jurco is in, but I'd rather see Bert gone. He is so obviously done as a hockey player, there's nothing left in his tank.

I was very happy to get a point out of this one. It was fairly obvious the team didn't have it today, we looked slow and tired and Minnesota looked hungry.

Huge games coming up. We're in a decent position, but a lot will be determined in the next 4-5 games.

#2499475 Dallas Eakins loses his cool...thanks to some water

Pathetic beyond words. Dallas Eakins is the biggest joke in the league.

#2498795 Bruins are the first to clinch a PO spot

Wow, wonder how that feels. We can't even win 3 straight.

They're, as usual, the team to beat in the East.

#2498566 Gustav Nyquist Appreciation Thread

This game might have been the most impressive Gus has played. He was actually a dominant player out there, and we were playing one of the top teams in the league.

Setting up the OT goal by knocking Malkin down and creating a turnover is just epic.
