#2013104 Sharks sign RFA Niklas Hjalmarsson

Posted by dat's sick on 09 July 2010 - 12:06 PM

If Lidström had retired I wonder if Holland wouldn't have tried to "steal" Hjalmarsson too.. if the Sharks get him that will make them so much stronger.

And lol at the Hawks.

#2011771 Detroit is currently 4th highest in cap money for defensemen

We also have one of the best top 2 d-pairs in the leagues so it makes sense.

#2010176 Getflaf for Zetter

Posted by dat's sick on 04 July 2010 - 11:53 PM

Getzlaf had a much better year than Hank

Stupid thread but I had to respond to this.

19 goals and 69 points in 66 games, +4

is "much better" than

23 goals and 70 points in 74 games, +12

Really?????

It's arguable who had the better regular season. Neither was quite as good as they can be. Throw Hank's great playoff performance in their though and he definitely takes the edge as far as last year imo.

#2004297 Sounds like the wings are looking for size

Size isn't very important in today's NHL. Go with speed and skill, please.

#1994721 Ville Leino Appreciation Thread

Posted by dat's sick on 05 June 2010 - 08:07 AM

Maybe because it's true? Or do you think it's just a magical coincidence that Leino went on fire when he came to the Flyers?

Yeah his 4 points in 13 regular season games for Philly screams "on fire" to me.

#1994710 Ville Leino Appreciation Thread

Posted by dat's sick on 05 June 2010 - 05:18 AM

This thread just seems to be excuse after excuse to justify what obviously was just a bad decision on Holland's part. He had to pick somone to go and he chose.....poorly. The quicker you guys wise up and accept it, the better. There's simply no justifying trading a guy for zilch who ends up being the star of the SCF, no matter how you look at it. And even if what some of you say is true, that he just didn't "fit into our system". How does that reflect on us and our organization? So we essentially have a system that somehow holds back and doesn't fit a guy who, on another team, would be a prime goal scorer and point producer? That doesn't sound any better.

Oh and feel free to dig up my posts from when the trade was announced. From the moment he was traded, I said it was idiotic and would come back to bite us in the ass, just like I did with Quincey and just like I said signing Williams was the worst mistake Holland could do in the offseason. I'll happily admit when I'm wrong but it's rarely the case. The only time I've eaten crow with what I've said is regarding letting Sammy go. Boy oh boy was I wrong about that one.

I wasn't happy when we traded Leino either, but dude, AT THE TIME it was the only logical choice for Holland. Eaves and Miller had made themselves into vital parts of the team, while Leino had been stinking it up all year. The one and only thing Leino had going for him was that he was great in his call-up the season before which indicated that he had potential. We all, including Holland, knew there was a chance he would go somewhere else and do great things, but he couldn't afford to wait and see while the Wings were struggling to even make the playoffs.

Also I'm not really buying that he didn't fit into our system but somehow fits so much better with the Flyers. Remember Leino didn't even have a permanent spot on the team at the beginning of the playoffs. If Philly had lost the shootout against the Rangers and missed the playoffs, moving Leino would have looked like a really good move. Of course, now that they made a miracle run and Leino is playing great in the SCF it looks bad, but that's just how it goes sometimes.

One thing I hope this Leino situation does is make Wings fans be more patient with rookies before they completely throw them under the bus. So many people had completely given up on Leino, saying his call-up the year before was a fluke and he was too slow and too soft didn't have heart and whatnot, meanwhile me and a few others were trying to mention that he's a rookie and needs time. Turns out that's exactly what he needed.

#1993785 Yzerman also wanting Pat Verbeek

Posted by dat's sick on 03 June 2010 - 01:57 PM

Why not? Yzerman starts stealing guys from the Red Wings just to put them to Tampa Bay. Why should Holland allow it? Just because Yzerman is a nice guy? Hell no. Let him prove he can find his own staff, not just steal them from organization he just left.

Yes, the Red Wings organization should be like a prison! Allow no one to leave alive!

There's no telling if Yzerman will actually be able to "steal" these people, they have a will of their own you know and might not want to leave the Wings. Not allowing him to talk to them at all would be crazy though, I wouldn't want to work for someone who doesn't allow other people to offer me jobs.

#1993119 Datsyuk and Zetterberg

Posted by dat's sick on 02 June 2010 - 01:23 PM

Totally agree.

If they were paired up right from training camp I definitely think they'd find their chemistry again. You can't split them up for a a year and a half and then throw them on the same line for the last 5 minutes of a must-win game and expect them to tear s*** up.
They need some time together, without that pressure of having to create magic out of thin air.

Personally I'd love to see it. I don't think Babs will do it because he thinks it's a waste to have two of the best centermen in the game on the same line, and while that is a fair point I think it's also a waste to not take advantage of the way they can dominate games if they're on the same line. Depth is great and all, but I kinda want the Wings to once again have a line that makes opponents go "oh s***".

#1992422 Lidstrom Signs 1-Year Contract Extension

Posted by dat's sick on 01 June 2010 - 01:01 PM

Stupid analogy. How is you life going to change from making 7.5 million a year versus 4 million. You're still rich as f***. 50,000 versus 26,000 is a huge change in lifestyle, though.

I can not believe people actually think like this.

edit: I also can't believe this thread is overwhelmingly negative reactions. What the hell LGW.

#1992283 Lidstrom Signs 1-Year Contract Extension

Posted by dat's sick on 01 June 2010 - 11:14 AM

so much for that discount.......

YES LET'S PAY LIDSTROM A HALF-EATEN HOTDOG IN HIS (MAYBE) LAST SEASON OF HIS LEGENDARY CAREER WHEN HE'S STILL ONE OF THE TOP 5 D-MEN IN THE LEAGUE

GOOD IDEA

#1988819 The Curse of Marian Hossa

Posted by dat's sick on 24 May 2010 - 03:48 AM

The "curse" will be broken this year. Chicago will take the Cup in 4, maybe 5 games. They're so far ahead of Philly and Montreal it's not even funny.

I find it funny that Hossa is repeating his playoff performance from last year though.. he only has 2 goals and 11 points, causing him to get some criticism, but at the same time just like he did for us he's playing good hockey. You can bet that if by some freak accident Chicago loses the final he will be just as hated as he is around here for not doing more.

#1988505 Homer Contract Disussion

Posted by dat's sick on 23 May 2010 - 03:58 PM

Don't get me wrong,I love Homer,but if he's gonna get greedy when he's 37 and demands a raise in salary ALONG WITH a multi-year deal,see ya.goodbye.

I guess he finally realized how invaluable he is to this team.. he really has been underpaid for what a key part he is to the team.

It's true that now isn't the time to get greedy, but I hope I never have to see Homer on another NHL team...

#1988456 Homer Contract Disussion

Posted by dat's sick on 23 May 2010 - 02:23 PM

Love Homer but with his history of injuries and his age a multi-year deal is too risky.. unless like other mentioned he's willing to take less than 1m per year.
