#2491464 Injury Updates

Posted by dat's sick on 05 March 2014 - 10:44 PM

I was really hoping Datsyuk would be a week, maybe 10 days tops. 3 weeks with this schedule is brutal.

And if he's not good after 3 weeks it's surgery and that would be his season I'm assuming. So not good. Hopefully Weiss can return sooner rather than later and be a solid contributor.

Sink or swim for this team. Whether we make the playoffs or miss them, I'm sure the experience of coping without Z and D will be good in the long run.

#2491194 Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

Posted by dat's sick on 05 March 2014 - 06:36 PM

Legwand is a mid 30s 3rd liner ufa ....you trade jarnkrok type prospects in blockbuster deals not in legwand type deals .... Habs gave up less than us and got a 30+ goal guy

Like I said the Isles had a weak position to trade Vanek. No one would give up much for a guy that they knew 100% had to be traded. And we didn't need Vanek, we needed a center. Eaves has zero value, and if rumors of Jarnkrok's desires to go back to Sweden had reached other GMs he probably didn't have much value either.

The trade isn't as bad as it serms if you settle down a bit and look at it rationally.

Gonna be another Weiss, just wait.

Weiss isn't even playing which is why we need Legwand.

I'm ASSUMING this means at least one of Helm or Datsyuk will be out a long time. Maybe both.

It's a rental, he's a decent player. It's a good trade as long as we didn't have to give up a 1st or a decent prospect. We almost 100% needed to pick up help on center if we're gonna be without Datsyuk and Helm. And IF by some miracle we make the playoffs, Legwand could help us there too.

#2490111 Official 2014 NHL Trade Deadline Thread

The Mike Weaver for a 5th and the Hemsky for a 3rd and 5th could have made this team MUCH better than we are now... Holland is smooching the pooch today.

If you really think so you know very little about hockey. Not only could those 3rd and 5ths turn into players like Jurco, Tatar, Nyquist, Oullet, Sproul etc. , but Weaver and Hemsky would not fill any need we have on the team right now.

#2488564 Naming the New Arena

If IKEA was smart, they would buy the naming rights.

So, it would be called "Hockey-Arena Bjorn" ? This needs to happen.

#2487885 Very Chris Very, Very Osgood...very

Posted by dat's sick on 28 February 2014 - 04:41 PM

Osgood has been our most disappointing prospect this season. He has the tools, but no toolbox.

But Murphy was as bad, if not worse. We should start a petition to get Homer signed by FSD next season.

#2487883 Question about Mantha

Posted by dat's sick on 28 February 2014 - 04:39 PM

I liken Mantha to Valeri Nichuskin. He was drafted at #10 when Mantha went at #20. When you look at Nichuskin's stats before he came to the show it doesn't really reveal that he would be as good as he has been for Dallas. I know the Wings like to have their prospects learn how to be a pro and such, but every now and then you get a player that you should just through in and let play. Dallas has done that with Valeri and his 29 points in 56 games with a +17 to boot has repayed their faith they had in him. I feel that we have a talent in Mantha that we should do the same with him next year.

They gave him a really good look this last training camp. I'm sure they'll do the same before next season, but unless he blows everyone out of the water he'll be in GR. With Jurco and Sheahan both looking like locks for next year's roster there won't be much room to throw in Mantha, and I doubt he's ready anyway. Let's not forget the jump to the AHL can be plenty difficult for many players.

#2487765 2/27 GDT : Red Wings 6 at Senators 1, Franzen w/Hat Trick

That Tatar goal reminds me so much of Zetterberg to Datsyuk in Dallas, I think it was 2007.

These kids are alright. If we get one or two of our AHL defensive prospects to step up in the same manner next season we'll be a force.

Gustavsson in net tonight and Bert out of the lineup.

#2486872 2/26 GDT - Red Wings 2 at Canadiens 1 (OT)

Holmstrom to this day would still be more effective than half of those guys in the lineup. Can this year be over?

I think you're exaggerating. Other than Bert on the 1st line that's a good lineup. I think Bert may be getting his last chance here. He's been good with Pavel before, he needs to be again if he wants to play when Weiss returns.

I'll never understand the attitude of "Gold is all that matters". I'd be proud as hell over an Olympic Bronze or Silver medal. Erik Karlsson was probably upset after the loss. He's young, he hasn't been in many big games like that. I would think as he gets older he'll realize how few his chances of even getting an Olympic medal are, and that looking back on bronze or silver beats looking back on nothing.

Sweden was missing too many high-end players to hang with Canada. Needed at least Backstrom, but really when we lost Zetterberg I felt we lost the chance to win Gold.

Good tournament by Canada, that defense is really impressive.

US team peaked too early. Game against Russia was their gold medal game. Still surprised they went scoreless the last two games.

#2485689 Reddit AMA: I used to work at Joe Louis w/Red Wings

Posted by dat's sick on 20 February 2014 - 07:48 PM

Some interesting anecdotes but he was also pretty vague on other things which make me question how much inside information he actually has. Working in Food & Beverages, how close do you really get to the team?

If all that about Hudler is true though it does explain Babcock's reluctance to give him icetime. It also sounds a bit too extreme to be true, missing practice because you're drunk isn't something NHL teams just let slide.

#2485231 USA-Canada Thread

Interesting game between the 3rd and 4th best teams in the tournament. I think Canada will be the ones losing in the final and the US will have to settle for 4th place.
