I do like that he doesn't want to handcuff the team for years to come by for example signing a mediocre player like Carle to a long, overpaid contract. Our young guys could step up enough to atleast take us to the playoffs, and if not atleast they've gotten icetime and development.
For the life of me I still can't understand it if he doesn't atleast offer Semin a big 1-year contract. Gonne be a lot of unused cap space this year..
Khan on the huge show just said the wings would have to be very desperate to go after Semin. He doesn't feel they are very interested in him.
Wings ARE desperate. If we are gonna be more than a 6th-10th place team we need to make significant additions. I hope Holland doesn't let Semin's bad rep overshadow what he'd bring to this team. Being surrounded by Babcock, Renney, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, maybe Doan, is different than being around Bodreau, Ovie and Green and I think Semin would behave accordingly.
Semin is CLOSE to a must-have. If we let him go to Pittsburgh I'll be disappoint. We have the money, we have a perfect fit for him on Datsyuk's wing, we have the kind of coach and organization that can get handle any possible 'issues' he might bring... I see very few downsides.
If we can offer 90 million to both Suter and Parise we can easily offer Semin something like 5 years at 5-6 mil per year. Maybe more, if that 's what it takes. If we add him we have the freedom to make a trade for D. Get it done Kenny.
not as pumped for enstrom. would still cost a lot and is only 5 foot 10 with a LH shot. not ideal. If we are shelling out serious assets we might as well pay a little more and get a guy that really fits well. If it was a bargain I'd trade for enstrom but no way are we sending flip the other way for that guy. I'd do franzen in a package though.
Yeah Enstrom is small but as a "replacement" to Lidstrom we're not looking for a big, physical guy, right? He plays really well positionally and is a good skater and exceptional puckmover. I'd give up Franzen for him in a heartbeat, and I'm a defender of the Mule. I'm sure it would take the addition of atleast a prospect and a pick however. My dream scenario is signing Semin and Doan and trading for 'Toby Orr'. Not that Yandle would be disappointing, but I think Enstrom could be had for less than his actual worth at the moment..
Filppula is NOT table scraps. 60 points and awesome defense. In my mind its almost an even trade between Fil and Ryan... but some people call me CRAAAAAAZAAAAY.
I agree, people are overrating Ryan a bit and underrating Filppula. Ryan has a career high of 71 points. The proposed trade of Filppula, Kindl and Tatar is not crazy imo. I wonder what Anaheim is asking, but if it's much more than that I say HELL NO.
LOL Canada. The road just cleared for Sweden and Russia.
Now watch Norway eliminate Russia and the Swedes lose against Czech Rep.
For the short amount of time I've seen Dats and OV play together I would give my left nut and overpay alot to get that guy on his wing. He would get 60-70 goals.
Eh, I'd rather see Pav play with Parise, who works a bit on defense too. And if Ovie isn't getting 60-70 goals anymore on Backstrom's wing, he wouldn't with Pav either.
Speaking of Datsyuk, it's so clear watching him that he is struggling with his skating. Looks so slow out there a lot of the time. Does some good things now and then, but knowing what he's capable of it's kinda painful seeing him at maybe 60% capacity.
...and this is why 99% of NHL players only give boring cliché answers to every question asked by reporters.
I understand they're disappointed with his play this year, but when goalie after goalie puts up terrible numbers for them, maybe it's time to realize a bit of the blame is on the defense, not on the goalie's personality.
Although "Rot away in the AHL" is kind of harsh. Just so I have it somewhat right, the main reason why non-North Americans don't like the AHL is because they can easily earn more money back at home? And then a secondary reason is the 'quality of hockey/skill'?
I don't think I've ever heard a swedish player, or any player at all for that matter, say anything good about the life of playing in the AHL. It honestly sounds like a piece of s*** existance.
There's a reason most european players who play in the AHL leave as soon as they realize they won't make the NHL, and honestly I think only a small part of that is the money.
Järnkrok is just too good to have to 'pay his dues' or any BS like that. If he doesn't make the Wings next year, he'll stay in the SEL. I have not heard any reliable source say differently. And if he stays in the SEL, he'll be one of the league's biggest stars. Him and Silfverberg were tearing it up this season and are doing great so far in the WC. Silfverberg is guaranteed a place on the Senators next season. Järnkrok really isn't far behind him.
Unless his development comes to a complete stop, after one more year in the SEL he'll be more than ready to take a 3rd line Center role for the Wings.
He had 1 assist in his first WC game against Norway.
Hmm... Just Khan being careless or does he know something that we don't?
I don't expect him to play in Grand Rapids. Either he tears it up at camp and forces his way into the lineup next year, or he plays one more year in Brynäs and comes right into the Wings lineup the year after.
This kid is too good to rot away in the AHL. He should be a star in the SEL until he can become a star in the NHL.
