#2304384 Nice Khan article previewing the off-season

Posted by under_par_00 on 31 May 2012 - 04:21 PM

Agreed.  I'd like to see Quincey at his 5% raise which is close to $3.3M.  Then I'd prefer to see Helm at $1.5 and Abdelkader at $1.2. That would be $6 total.  but I could see each being slightly higher.

Doesn't Helm seem a lot more valuable to this team than Quincey?  How can he be valued at less than half of what Quincey is making?

Quincey was downright horrible with his penalties and giveaways.  If anyone watched him in Colorado, he was the same player there, cross-checking after interference after boarding every game.  And for Team Canada in the World Championships?  His turnover directly led to a Slovak goal in the game Canada was eliminated.

Sure he has size, speed, and a great shot, but he has a lot of killer weaknesses.

#2266948 Datsyuk's on the ice for today's practice

Broken jaw on a Weber slapshot and a concussion

Dramatization.

It was a big slapper from Josi, still caught Eaves square in the side of the head, right below the ear on the jaw bone.  Broken jaw and ever since he has been having concussion symptoms.  Don't expect to see him back this year.

#2253489 Jeff Carter

Posted by under_par_00 on 07 February 2012 - 11:24 PM

What do you think of Jeff Carter? Lots of talk of the Blue Jackets looking to trade him.  The only downside is the 10 year contract, but he is only 27, and $5mil might not be that much in 10 years.  The BJs traded Voracek and a 1st that turned into Couturier.  Holland could realistically trade for him.

#2240199 Kopecky Suckerpunches Del Zotto

Posted by under_par_00 on 31 December 2011 - 12:19 PM

Has anyone figured out how to pronounce his name yet?  I guess since all the announcers call him "Kopetsky" that must be it, but then I wonder...why not just spell it that way?  Haha.

"Kopetsky" would be correct.  In many Slavic languages, the letter 'c' without an accent makes a 'ts' sound.  So Kopecky would sound like "Kopetsky"

#2240121 Petr Mrazek

Posted by under_par_00 on 31 December 2011 - 01:20 AM

Mrazek made 52 saves on 54 shots to eliminate the USA from the World Juniors.  Our goalie of the future shutting down the Americans, I'm glad that I'm a Canadian Wings fan!

Really excited to see Mrazek get a shot in GR next year.  He seems to have the drive and attitude that you just can't teach.  Not to mention his crazy goaltending skills.  He outperformed former first round pick Jack Campbell hands down.

#2239674 World Juniors Tournament

Posted by under_par_00 on 29 December 2011 - 12:26 PM

It's no wonder why there is so much bad blood between USA and CAN in these tournaments with statements like this.  You didn't even mention the Canada's win yet you are ecstatic about the US loss. <_<

I was also pretty happy to see the USA lose!  I just hope it isn't one of those losses that makes them stronger later on in the tournament.

On Mrazek, he looked great in net.  His team did not help him at all against Canada, and he was the sole reason the score was only 1-0 for much of the game.  He seems really fast in net, really athletic, and has a head of steam.

#2222616 F*** YOU Player X

Posted by under_par_00 on 04 November 2011 - 02:38 AM

He still plays here?

Zetterberg will be here for the next 12 odd years.  I really hope he steps it up this year, as the next in line for the C.

It's gotten to the point where some of this has to fall on Nick Lidstrom's shoulders;  he is the Captain, he is the leader, yet this ship looks rudderless and heartless.

There; I said it.

This team is playing way too fancy, lead by the Fairy Godmother herself #93, Johan Franzen.  I wouldn't say heartless, just gritless, grinderless, etc.

Lidstrom has been the best player on this team all year, by a nautical mile.  You cannot call him out for how the team is performing, even if he wears the C.

#2222613 Thoughts on tonight's game/Season outlook

Posted by under_par_00 on 04 November 2011 - 02:15 AM

I attended the game tonight, 2nd regular season game after our 2-0 SHUTOUT of the CANUCKS.

Horrible effort by everybody on the ice (except #5).  Franzen needs to be in the press box way before Bertuzzi. Hudler is soft and I am starting to serve my own crow for his performance.

It seems like the team is trying to play really fancy with no grit at all.  They are not lacking work ethic, they are lacking toughness and grit.

I am going to start blaming the ass. coaches, the PP looks incredibly tic-tac-no, and absolutely nothing is working 5-on-5.  Everyone is trying fancy dangles and then back passes to defense that get picked off and start odd man rushes.  I think the other team knows that the gameplan against Detroit is to purposely leave the D open, and then collapse, block the shot, and break-out while Kronwall/Stuart/White are still recovering from their offensive effort.  Good gameplan if you ask me.

And that first goal Howard let in tonight certainly doesn't help a 5 game losing streak.  However, he has been solid for the most part this season.

#2205729 Who will get the final bobblehead?

BERTUZZI has won the final bobblehead, with over 500000 votes.

What I want to know is what the hell kind of shirt Franzen is wearing in that picture.

Looks like a towel.  Don't forget to bring a towel!

#2186712 No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

Posted by under_par_00 on 18 June 2011 - 10:07 AM

It's interesting how people randomly meet other people that know some first-hand celebrity gossip that is relevant to their argument.

I never said if I was for or against having Jagr come to the Wings.  I just added this random bit of information.  It's the offseason, things are slow.  Take it for what it's worth.  There was no previous conversation about Jagr, it could have been any one of a million Czech hockey players if he was lying, but he specifically talked about Jagr.

Personally, I think Jagr for under $2 million would be a good risk to take on.  However, having played roughly average 60 games for the past 3 years, how would Jagr handle the 82 game grind of the NHL, plus ~20 intense playoff games in a deep run?  Hopefully the coaching staff would be smart enough to rest him a bit throughout the season.

#2185544 No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

Posted by under_par_00 on 15 June 2011 - 05:21 PM

So no one wants Jagr at $1.8 million to play on Filppula's wing?  Isn't Filppula the one with great defensive ability and some offensive skill?  I say a 3rd line with Filppula and Jagr would be great.  Oh yea, sign Wis and/or Erhoff for D please.  I know we have the money...

#2183560 Aaron Rome

It's a rough game, keep your head up.

I wonder what Scott Stevens would have to say about the Rome hit on Horton?

#2181339 Wings sign Nestrasil to Entry Level Contract

Posted by under_par_00 on 31 May 2011 - 03:07 PM

I use to be excited about this guy, but after his dismal showing at the WJC, I've lost some hope for this guy.

Meh, small sample size.  He has a lot of upside.  I havn't seen him play, but I am excited for a chance to see him in GR next year as a pro rookie.
