Thought it would be fun to create a thread where we could 1) discuss other games happening around the National Hockey League, and 2) take a look at which teams winning or losing would be the most beneficial to the Red Wings' race back to the playoffs. Let's begin:
Sunday, December 13th, 2009
Tampa Bay Lightning (W) at Chicago Blackhawks
Calgary Flames (W) at Colorado Avalanche
Detroit currently sit four points back of the division-leading Chicago Blackhawks, meaning a Tampa Bay victory would tighten the race for the Red Wings. In Colorado, the Avalanche sit tied with the Flames at 42 points a piece, but the Avs, having played three more games than the Flames (and 2 more than the Red Wings) are a much more realistic hurdle for the Red Wings to overcome as they attempt to battle their way into the post-season. We're looking for a Flames victory.

Andy Strickland: "Wings and 'Hawks lead Forsberg race"
05 November 2009 - 06:00 PM
Here is a quote pulled from a recent blog entry Andy Strickland posted at Hockeybuzz.com:
"I’m told by some pretty reliable hockey people that the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks are the two leading candidates to sign free agent forward Peter Forsberg. The future Hall of Famer is getting closer to making his return to the NHL which I’m told should happen around Christmas time. Forsberg has told a few people that Chicago and Detroit are his top two choices."
For the record, I don't believe this for a second, but I thought some here might be interested in reading this garbage.
Discuss.

Andrei Markov out 4 months following surgery
02 October 2009 - 12:01 PM
Pulled from Darren Dreger's twitter:
"Wow. Markov out 4 months following surgery on a lacerated ankle. Devestating news for the Habs."
Talk about a terrible way to start the season.
