As for builder: our own Jimmy Devellano certainly deserves it.

He does, but it's going to be Pat Burns.

#1998324 Leafs changing jersey; naming Phaneuf captain

I too like the 1960's retro 3rd jersey the best, but I gotta admit I like the Harold Ballard era jerseys as well

With all the jersey changes we've seen since the early 1990's - ya gotta believe the MLSE are reaping huge profits.

Jersey sales bottomed out the last couple years because everybody thought the "practice jersey" they've been using was ugly and there's been a lack of secure names to put on a jersey.

Phaneuf jerseys started flying off the shelves as soon as they got him, though.

Not really big on Phaneuf being captain, but who are their alternatives?

Komisarek & Beauchemin

#1997625 Fire sale in Chicago?

Posted by MacK_Attack on 10 June 2010 - 02:08 PM

So is there a cap in the AHL? Like what happens if they waive Huet to put him in the minors, there is no cap hit on the Hawks right? And i highly doubt anyone is gonna pick up his 5 million dollar contract? So how does that work? It seems like a logical way to free up a good portion of money to sign some cheap people while not having to dump as much.

There's no cap in the AHL.

If Huet is waived, he won't count against the cap. But he can't be taken off their cap until the end of training camp.

Also, Jonathan Toews gets a $1.3 million bonus for winning the Conn Smythe. Because it wouldn't fit on Chicago's cap from this past season, it carries over to the 2010/11 season.

Details still emerging.

I'm surprised to see Indy as the 5th-best market.

#1990864 Second outdoor game in Calgary

Posted by MacK_Attack on 28 May 2010 - 03:38 PM

Well Montreal did do well in the playoffs and have a rabid fan base. If Toronto wasn't the worst team in the league I could see them getting there instead though.

I don't think it's too bad, I guess I'd prefer to see Vancouver in there though but we'll see next year.

Leafs want their own game, but BMO Field isn't big enough.

Well thats 2 for Montreal and 2 for the Pens so 2012 the Wings should be due to host one. The leafs should be good enough by then they can play at the big house and FILL IT.

They would probably fill it now as a terrible team.

I think it's time to end this fiasco and get the team back where it belongs.

Montreal's luck has to run out sooner or later. I'd say sooner.

#1969105 Yzerman Tampa's NEW GM ?!

Posted by MacK_Attack on 01 May 2010 - 09:27 PM

I can't think that would be a good career move for Stevie. Yeah, he may be the GM but all the politics around that place is going to doom any GM from the start. Aren't they still run by a board of people who don't care about hockey or know anything about assembling a team?

He needs to go somewhere that will give him some actual control over how the team is made up.

No, they have a new owner and have cleaned out the front office and coaching staff.

Starting over with brand new staff.

#1969090 NHL adding new award

Posted by MacK_Attack on 01 May 2010 - 08:59 PM

According to Pierre LeBrun on HNIC Hotstove, the NHL is creating a new award for general manager of the year.

The early rumours were that it was to be called the Sam Pollock Award, but that apparently is not a sure thing. The NHL is holding off on naming the trophy for now.

Some of you obsess over the Pens/Crosby way too much.

#1966142 Hart Trophy Nominees

Posted by MacK_Attack on 29 April 2010 - 04:14 PM

I wouldn't say that Crosby has worst linemates. I'm pretty sure he was playing with Pony and Guerin alot who are very compareable to Burrows and D. Sedin. When Burrows isn't with the Sedin's he does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Sedin's linemates aren't anything special, neither are Crosby's except Crosby plays on a lethal PP where Sedin plays with his line. Malkin, Gonchar on the PP with Crosby compared to Burrows and like Bieksa or Edler for god's sake.

People always say Crosby plays with bad linemates but how much did Crosby do in the finals the last few years and they still managed the cup last year.

Poni played mostly with Malkin & Fedotenko.....and besides, Pittsburgh didn't even have him until the trade deadline.

#1965924 Hockey Rivalry

Leafs/Habs rivalry has died down lately because they haven't had a playoff series since the 70s.

(leafs fans...idiots)

#1965894 Good story about Brooks Laich

Posted by MacK_Attack on 29 April 2010 - 02:05 PM

Finally, an SUV slowed down ahead of them and pulled over. And then Brooks Laich got out and asked if he could help.

Since the Triple A folks were already on the way, Mary Ann asked Brooks -- whom she immediately recognized -- if he'd just wait with them by the side of the road. Instead, he asked whether they had a spare. Mary Ann said they did. So he took off his jacket -- he was still wearing his post-game suit -- got out the tire, and started jacking up the car.
