In Topic: At What Point Does Holland Deserve Blame?

Hey I'm not trying to start something but does anyone else think that maybe Ilitch probably isn't asking for of Holland because he's focused on the Tigers? They are closer to a world series win and have no cap- the Wings in the early 2000s. Maybe thats why Ilitch is satisfied with just making the playoffs for now.

I'm sure he still cares but it's no secret the Tigers our his first priority. He's got 4 cups he wants a WS.

Forget the details and step back and think about how ridiculous this thread sounds to 29 other teams. Most of us on here don't even know what a losing season feels like. I'll save my thoughts on our GM after there's no more hockey to be played. It's game 7 who cares about this crap right now?

Kneejerk after Dion fell through it seems. He's stunk up the joint pretty hard this series.

yeah I don't blame Z for the teams issues, look at the roster of this team and any of the cup winners. The team would need every young player to step up and have a coming out party similar to Franzen in 08. Z just needs to play to his level, that's all I ask as a fan. The D isn't good enough anyone can see that. I'd like to lose to a team with a real goalie instead of tampon. I didn't see 2013 as a disappointment. We took the cup winners to the brink, it stung but it wasn't a failure. The Boston series was a failure.

Agreed on all accounts.
We dont really have any D-men in the system either.  Sure, there's Ouellette, and Marchenko.   Lets face it though, neither are a top 4 guy probably.  That doesnt leave alot of hope.
If I'm Babcock, that's my play to the Wings FO...  you want me back, you give me D-men.  Give me speed and grit guys.  Skill guys like Dats and Z are alright, but lets face it, it's time to strongly considering moving on, theyre well out of their prime, and shadows of their former selves, it really hurts to say that.  You get the beauty play still every now and then, but they dont take over and dominate games anymore.  It happens to all the great ones unfortunately.  Also unfortuantely... we haven't been able to replace them yet.  They still have roles, but we need the replacements.  Tatar is showing promise.  So did Nyquist, but he's fallen off as of late.
I know we like to think, we're the Red Wings, we have such a great roster.   Outside of a few guys, it's not that special.  It's the system that gets us to where we are, it's the talent and desire, and grit that wins in the playoffs, not necessarily the fancy schmancy skill guys.

M and Q looked great for rookies this year (M wasn't playoff ready). Top 4 is doable. Quellet could develop into a solid number 2 but it might take time.
