#2368864 3/13 GDT : Red Wings 2 at Flames 5

Knee-jerk message board reaction aside it's starting to get ridiculously comically that Abby continues to be on the 2nd-line without any production while our best player on the team is frozen cold because of it. I'm not sure how he doesn't see it, he has to, but why is he so god damn stubborn? Maybe he's sticking it to Holland for not getting him enough top 6 talent. :confused1:

And how does Franzen get away with 5% effort every night? Where's the accountability? Yeah he's got the best shot on the team and we desperately need offense, still no excuse. You can count on Franzen to cough up 4-5 pucks in the neutral zone every game.

It's been that way for quite a few years even when we were good. Key is Babcock would get our team up and ready for the big games/playoffs. Problem is the roster doesn't have the talent to coast any longer and we're getting exposed.

Back in the 90s even as a kid I never felt robbed of my enjoyment because of a a tie game. Useless excuse made up by the league to "appease" the "casual fan". Shootouts were for the IHL.

"Rough reviews"? Or "realistic"?

I've seen him play in the Swiss League. And I've seen every Wings game this season but two.

So he did get better throughout his games? I only partially agree. He's floating around a lot less, and shooting less. That's what makes him better now, compared to his first few games. He's still a sniper.

What hasn't changed? He's still a liability in the defense (currently, game-to-game, changing how big that liability it is).

As for "willing to learn at age 26": Brunner's got to surprise me here. AFAIK player's don't "learn" new behaviours at age 26 easily. For Brunner, this means he will never become any solid defensively, i.e. he will never effectively attack a player holding the puck, will never place an effective check in the offensive zone etc. He's too old to "learn" that, guys. His style is different. He's got his chance playing in the Swiss NLA by scoring terrific goals, and eventually they let him play with the best players on his line.

The outcome is Babcock, who lets him play with good working players (Z) also. Result: Brunner scores. But he's neither working hard for the team, nor solid defensively. Let's be realistic.

Btw, I hope Brunner scores 25+ this season.

Kenny please lock up Brunner for 3-5 years, thanks!

#2359249 Dan Cleary appreciation thread

Posted by Number19 on 22 February 2013 - 01:21 AM

This thread makes me sad, since Cleary is a shell of a man preciselybecause he's given so much for the team over the years.  So lets remember the good times for a while, eh?

Oh man I jumped to my feet when that happened. What a ****ing hit. Also fighting Pronger to almost a draw. Cleary was a warrior.

Bad quality but I'd rather not listen to the Ducks announcers. Sure he's wearing a visor and turtles but Pronger is a truck and that took guts.

He's been pretty awesome this season. I wish Babs played him more. He's surprised me with his skating ability and decent shot. Funny but it's true, you hate them until they're playing on your team. Besides maybe the Dorsett shot I haven't seen him make any cheap or dirty plays. He can do his job and be physical without dangerously running at guys or hitting from behind. Maybe he's grown up.

#2359109 Howard = Average

howards stats would be average for a 5th seed playoff team in the 1980s. you know when scoring was astronomically high.

waste the last couple of years of the greatest d-man of this generation with a middling roster.

Man it would've been nice to see Bure join the russian 5.

#2310380 Parise Likely Out. Next Options

This team doesn't need to get older, better to get younger and take a chance on Semin.

Oh please people have been saying that for 10 + years and look we won two cups and made the playoffs every season. If it makes you feel any better I'm sure losing Nick and Brad dropped the average age down a bit.

and you don't "take a chance" on a 6.5mil forward.

#2302496 Iginla

Posted by Number19 on 21 May 2012 - 06:17 PM

He's 34. He'd fit right in with Datsyuk and Z! Posted Image

Yeah that's not really old for hockey players these days and Iginla doesn't have a history of injuries. I think you can get 4-5 good seasons out of him before it's time to call it quits. A 34 Iginla isn't a 34 Franzen or Bertuzzi.

#2302494 Iginla

The stereotypical underachieving soft Russian player or the gritty powerfoward that's scored the most goals of the decade and is hungry for a cup? I'm gonna have to go with Iginla and throw in any prospect that isn't Smith. Iginla + Suter + Parise with Nick taking a major paycut for one more run.. a boy can dream.
